Pinoy Joyride - Tabuk to Bontoc Road Complete Joyride (Kalinga - Mt Province Drive)

This is the road going to Bontoc from Tabuk City - Kalinga province. It is a long road with beautiful mountain views and passing beside the majestic Chico River. When i documented this, it was raining and days after the road was closed due to landslide again. Passing the municipalities of Tabuk City - Pasil - Lubuagan - Tinglayan in Kalinga Province and Sadanga and Bontoc at Mountain Province. This was included in one of my new list for must drive places in the Philippines - 3 out five done! The roads along Pasil - Lubuagan and Tinglayan were rough on some portions. There are instance roads are narrow that can accommodate one vehicle only so sharing roads here is important for a smooth traffic flow. I am not sure about security if it is safe here but i did saw army detachments along the way. One of the most fun filled drives i have experienced.
Please check the DPWH-CAR to know road closures regarding this route when planning to drive.

Drive thrill - Narrow roads with winding curves. Beautiful ravine scenery when not foggy. When foggy you feel like you are in a adventure movie. Falling rocks caution. Landslide caution and muddy when raining
Security - There are houses along the road. There are towns but i cannot vouch for the security...

Pinoy Joyride - Halsema Highway (South Bound) Joyride
Bontoc to Baguio Route (Southbound)
Probably one of the most longest joyride and uploaded here on dmitrivalencia channel. This is the Halsema Highway, considered as one of the dangerous roads in the world and considered also as one of the highest elevated highways in the Philippines as the Philippine Pali is located here. From Bontoc Mountain Province to La Trinidad Benguet and Baguio this trip was around 3 to 4 hours on private vehicle. The entire stretch is above beautiful mountains, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and there was fog almost everywhere. You could see beautiful highland vegetation along this highway. Do not worry about fuel as towns have reputable gasoline stations, eateries, and rest areas. One thing that i admire passing here was the courtesy the local drivers have here, they seem to understand and give way to faster cars. Unlike drivers in the city where being overtaken is already synonymous to stepping to their egos, the drivers here would gladly let you pass by turning their signal lights to right and slowing down letting you pass. One danger here is domesticated animals something are let lose over the towns so drive slowly to avoid hitting dogs and chickens. You will be passing many mountains along this route. By the way be careful of skidding. Since temperature here gets cold and wet due to moisture and climate, there is a possibility of skidding.
Finally the last of the 5 must drive list of mine is complete.

Road Condition - Some rough roads and under repair roads due to maintenance but the rest are good roads. Be warned of slippery roads due to climate.

Security - i guess no problem even at night as i approach back to Sagada, not much vehicles so far no insurgents. Fuel stations no problem.

-How to get there from Manila?
Take a bus that can bring you to Baguio. Leave Manila around 4 to 5 am so you can be at Baguio around 11am. I prefer taking Victory Liner because their buses depart every hour from their terminals in Manila, Cubao, Caloocan, and Pasay. Buses get full, especially during peak season. So be sure to reserve your ticket a day before your scheduled departure to guarantee yourself a seat.
When you arrive at Baguio take a taxi going to GL/Lizardo Trans Station at Dangwa Terminal and ride a bus going to Botoc! From Baguio to Bontoc, it is a 5 to 6 hour journey. Take the 12:30pm or 1:30pm bus to Bontoc so you’ll catch the beautiful combination of colors in the sky due to breathe taking sunset while on the way.
-Where to stay?
As soon as you arrive at Bontoc, you should check in at a hotel or you’ll freeze by the cold breeze in the area! There are lots of hotels in Bontoc raging from 150 to 250 PHP (rooms w/ shared toilet) and 300 to 500 PHP (rooms with private toilet). I recommend taking Churya-a hotel as they also serve good food and give you a perfect landscape of the town.
-What to do and where to go?
First thing in the morning, go to the Tourism Office located beside the Police station at the heart of Bontoc. You should register and pay an environment/tourist fee. But in my case, I paid nothing due to the generosity of the officers in charge that day. In addition, they gave me tips and guided me on how I can enjoy my 3 days stay at the beautiful town of Bontoc, Mountain Province.
There are a lot of things that you can do while you are at the town proper. Restaurants are everywhere! They serve eye catching, mouthwatering, and tummy satisfying food often served in big portions to satisfy hungry backpackers! Expect to spend around 130-170 pesos per meal with drinks. Adjust accordingly based on how much you want to eat and drink.
Start your adventure with a 20-minute jeepney ride going to Maligcong Rice Terraces. When you arrive at Maligcong, pay the environment/tourist fee of 20 PHP. Trekking around the terraces will take you about 2 to 3 hours. You can stay at Vilma’s guest house over the night then wake up around 4am the next day for you to see the sunrise over the bed of clouds at Maligcong Rice Terraces just like the sunrise at Kiltepan Park, Sagada.
Want to hike not 1, not 2 mountains but ranges? The Bontoc Ili - Alab Mountain ranges is the answer. It is 20 minutes away from the town proper via jeepney or bus. Have a flashback as you trek for 5 hours because of the rich history and mystery behind the burial caves and terraces you will encounter during your trek! The Bontoc Alab – Ili trek lasts up to 3-5 hours depending on your speed and endurance. You can hire a tour guide so you can have a safe and more educational trek. 800 PHP when you’re alone and 1200 PHP for a group of 5!
Before you leave Bontoc, make sure to drop by the Bontoc Museum and catch a glimpse of the rich culture, and colorful history of the peoples in the Cordilleras. The vast collection in the museum ranges from tools during the headhunting era, regular clothing to traditional costumes used for special celebrations, spectacular photographs to miniature models of traditional houses, and many more!
The 3 days stay at the Town of Bontoc is not enough! I missed some exciting things due to lack of time. But surely it is a town that you’ll go back with!
Mysteries over a clouded town are still mysteries and yet to be uncovered!

Bus from Manila to Baguio – 455 PHP each way
Taxi from VL terminal to GL terminal – 50 - 70 PHP
Bus from Baguio to Bontoc – Student/SC/PWD fare: 176 PHP Regular fare: 220 PHP each way
Hotel in Bontoc – Rooms w/ shared bathroom 150-250 PHP. Rooms w/ private bathroom 300-500 PHP
Food – 130-170 PHP per meal (Adjust accordingly based on how much you want to eat and drink.)
Jeep to Maligcong Rice terraces – 20 PHP each way
Maligcong environment fee – 20 PHP
Vilma’s Guest house Maligcong - 300 PHP

Pinoy Joyride - Banaue to Bontoc (Ifugao to Mountain Province) Joyride
Inspired by a video from youtube this was included in my 5 must drive places Banaue to Bontoc / Ifugao to Montain Province Joyride. The sceneries and views from Banaue to Bontoc were breathtaking. You could feel the time it has stood over the country for how many centuries. Truly beautiful route! Be careful of the curves though, once you fall down due to accident, that is one deep fall. Arriving from Poblacion Bontoc then towards Sagada. The temperature here was excellent during documentation.

As of documentation:
Road Condition -Good roads but there are some portions with deterioration but still majority were good roads.
Drive thrill - Better drive slowly since those majestic mountains are truly marvelous! Park your car in a clear shoulder and take a selfie or a picture, Be careful also while driving or you dont want to fall into that deep ravine.
Security - The municipality of Bontoc is close by so dont worry about fuel here. As for security, so far so good, there are construction workers along the road.

Halsema Highway was considered one of the most dangerous highways in the world and the highest point is about 7,400 ft above sea level!! Landslides, mud slides, and falling rocks are common along this road. Extreme foggy conditions and slippery roads during rainy season complicate the driving, turning the road even more dangerous. But the road has now improved, much more car friendly and the view is phenomenal! Make sure to always be careful in driving guys!

World's Most Dangerous Roads - Philippines
The headhunters road Kalinga in filipino is aptly named even if the region's heads haven't been rolling for a long time. It said the spirits of the mountains still have a taste for them when it comes to cutting the road.
Christopher and his men face the same struggle against the mountain every day. Their job is to remove the thousands of cubic meters of rocks blocking the road in record time.
Further down the valley lies the town of Bontoc. It is neither Airport nor railway station, so the road is vital for its 15,000 inhabitants. If the Kalinga is blocked, the entire region is paralyzed and even the bone snake charms are powerless.
Bus 532 with 20 years of service is about to leave for one of the most dangerous roads in the Philippines: the Kalinga on the island of Luzon. It relays Bontoc to the regional capital of Tabuk to the north through the Cordillera mountains. A Tough road under construction for nearly a century, but which still resembles a track. It takes almost a day if all goes well to travel.

After visiting the Igorot tribes in Benguet and Mountain Province, we went to a community called Banaue in the Province of Ifugao. Ifugao is also the name of the tribe in this province. We stayed in a lodge that has been there since I was in high school.

My first vlog in the Philippines is here! Although I had motion sickness while I was on the plane, I can't stop feeling so happy as I landed to Philipines. My dad and my brother came to fetch me btw. So grateful that we arrived home safely. Sorry, my vlog was just pure video, there was no chitchatting or whatever. It's just I was still feeling nauseous and stomach pain from traveling. I think showing you guys the beautiful places that we passed by is amazing, so here it is! How to go to Buscalan, Kalinga
1). Take a bus ride from Baguio to Bontoc with GL Trans in Dangwa Station. Pay Php 212 for a 6 hour ride
2). GL trans will stop in the station going to Bugnay. Take the top loading jeep to Bugnay. Pay Php 100 for a 2 hour ride.
3). Meet you guide, ours was Kuya Charlie, then ride a habalhabal to the point where you will start your trekking. Pay Php 50.
4). Walk to Apo Whang-Od's house
