THIS IS TRUE PASSION
Jonah was Born and raised on the Crow reservation Near Crow Agency Montana. Jonah is Actually a cousin of mine. growing up with him he would wake my brother up with his trumpet when. Jonah has always been interested in music and music culture. He has Always been surrounded by music which has influenced this huge part of his life. Sitting with Jonah you get a real feel about what real passion is. It was very memorable for myself interviewing Jonah. I grew up with him and never seen him for years it was like i was meeting him for the first time. It was very strange to me and very inspiring to hear this insane voice coming from him.
Jonah is an enrolled member of the crow tribe. But he is also part of the Chippewa-Cree Tribe on his fathers side of the Rocky Boy Reservation. Jonah has grown up in Crow Traditional ways by his mother and grandparents. He has been exposed to Native american music through gatherings such as pow wows hand games and push and round dances. He has also been exposed to Native american music through Sundances and peyote meetings. Jonah picked up the trumpet in the 6th grade in the middle school band. He played throughout high school. it was not until his sophomore year of high school where he picked up the guitar. Jonah also played in the Montana state university Billings Jazz ensemble during his freshman year of college.
Jonah is definitely an interesting character. He has a Bachelors of science degree in Earth Science (Geo-Hydrology) from MSU-Bozema. After attending college in Bozeman he has since moved back to Hardin, Mt. He has since started a family with his wife, and two sons. He also found an opportunity to teach math and science at Little Bighorn college in Crow Agency Montana. Music was pulling Jonah back into its grasp when he felt it was missing from his life. When his wife was offered a job opportunity near Red Lodge, Mt. The two decided to take the opportunity to move to the area. Jonah began pursuing his music full time for a year playing gigs in towns like Red Lodge Roberts and Billings, Mt.
Jonah now lives in Hardin, Mt. He plays shows solo as Jonah Morsette and in a couple of bands playing in venues across Montana and Wyoming. Jonah Describes his original music as a blend of Blues, Rock and Pop with strong influences of country, Folk, R&B, Soul, Gospel and Native American Music. Jonah’s Influences come from a wide range of places including Artists and fellow Musicians and singers. He also finds his influences from Artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Jonny Lang, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Scott Weiland, John Fogerty and Chris Stapleton to name a few.
This is one Interview i will never forget. I was Setting up for Jonah to do a few songs. I heard him warming up to his set. Listening to him warm up I was pulled into his world. There was no escaping the grasp his music had on me. I started to understand why it is we are setting out to cover artists with Fallen Hour and Relay Horse. To find these voices Artists and musicians as well as entrepreneurs. There are people out there who are sold out into there craft. Jonah has inspired me to work harder and keep my eyes and ears open to artists just like him. Jonah gave me some insight into how passionate he really is about his music. I asked Jonah “How do you wish your music would impact your listeners?” His response gave me a real sense of his passion. Jonah replied “ I don’t really think about that stuff. I would hope my music would impact people positively, But Music is something i need in order to be happy”. Hearing those words made me think about what passion really is. Are we really doing what we love and if we lose what we call our “Passion” can we live?. If we do not love what we do a definite change needs to be made in order for us to be happy in our lives. We Have also made the decision in helping Jonah Get his Social media Presence highly noticeable. We will be working with Jonah Through the summer.
I hope you all enjoyed this addition to Relay Horse Magazine you can reach Jonah for performances with his contact information below. Also Fallen Hour and Relay Horse are looking for Artists entrepreneurs and Musicians just like you!. Whatever it is you do with a passion it doesn’t necessarily need to fall under the listed categories we would love the opportunity to cover you contact us with our links below!
