I took a flight over Rodanthe, NC the other day. You can see the Rodanthe Pier near the end. I also pass over the Nights in Rodanthe house.

East most point in the state of North Carolina. This is a bad location for coastal flooding. That house needs to be moved or it will end up in the ocean.

The Outer Banks are a 200 mile long (320 km) string of barrier islands off the coast of the U.S. state of North Carolina, separating the Atlantic Ocean from the mainland.
We made a three day trip to Outer Banks which is around 200 miles from Raleigh, NC (our residence).
In this video, I have covered our visits to Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills and Rodanthe Pier which is situated on Cape Hatteras National Seashore on the first day of our trip.
I will share the places we visited on our second & third day of our trip on my next video.

Inn at Rodanthe (Serendipity) Nights in Rodanthe
The Inn at Rodanthe as it was named in the 2008 movie based on Nicholas Sparks popular novel, Nights In Rodanthe, starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane, is the most famous home on Hatteras Island.

Released in September 2008, the Nights in Rodanthe embraced the majestic natural beauty of Hatteras Island and the focal point of the story, the Inn at Rodanthe, was depicted as a unique seaside inn overlooking the great Atlantic Ocean. In reality, the Inn at Rodanthe was threatened by coastal storms, erosion and repetitive ocean over wash and in danger of falling into the ocean.
This oceanfront Hatteras Island retreat was originally built in the 1980's with pilings driven 14 feet into the sand and set in concrete. At the time the Inn in Rodanthe was built, there was 400 feet of beach in front of the house.
In the spring of 2009, the current owners from Newton, NC and extreme fans of the movie, heard about the current state of the Inn at Rodanthe and made the decision to purchase the home and save a piece of movie history. On January 4, 2010, the Inn at Rodanthe and an alternate oceanfront lot, only a short distance from the original site, was purchased in an effort to preserve and protect the home from future storms.
The home was moved from its original site by Expert House Movers (the same company that moved the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse). The Inn at Rodanthe weighing in at 83,000 pounds was jacked up, shored with cribbing underneath, loaded up onto beams and four pair of huge wheels, and readied for its move in a matter of just two days. The electric crews and telephone companies temporarily took down power lines and the police stopped traffic while the Inn at Rodanthe took a 30 minute journey on Highway 12 to its new location.

We fell in love with each other at an RV show and as a result we fell in love with campers too. For years we have been going to RV shows and picking out our favorites and dreaming of the day we would be able to have one of our own. Then in the summer of 2017 after a series of major mishaps (Our car being totaled, pay cuts and layoffs and a trip to the ER) we purchased our first camper, a Jayco Qwest for less than 5000. Then we began the process of downsizing. Now we are traveling and exploring the RV Lifestyle.

Afternoon drive along one of America's most scenic highways... NC Route 12 along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. This is Part 5 of a 9 part video. Enjoy a virtual driving tour through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo on Hatteras Island. This video was filmed on my Sony HD Handycam during my annual trip to the Outer Banks on May 31, 2013.

Outer Banks Life Saving - Touring Chicamacomico Life Saving Station, Rodanthe North Carolina
If you're stuck at the beach (what??) on a rainy day, check out some of your local historical landmarks! In this video, we were touring the Chicamacomico Life Saving Station which is in Rodanthe, North Carolina on the Outer Banks. We took the whole family, and everyone had a great time learning about the history of the Coast Guard, and life saving efforts on the Outer Banks of NC.

Fishing was best at high tide and as the sun was setting. Have to give Ryan credit for knowing the surf to get on these big fish.

In this part of the roadtrip, we discovered the Outer Banks. We stayed in the charming town of Manteo on Roanoke Island which is located in a somewhat central location of this area. From there we could discover the beaches, the swamps or Jockey's Ridge State Park with it's amazing Sahara-like sand dunes. This is also where the first flight took place by the Wright brothers at Kill Devil Hills. Read more of the Outer Banks:

This drive takes us out on the banks to Rodanthe where you can find Serendipity house from the Richard Gere movie 'Nights in Rodanthe'. Heather and I met when we were 11 years old, in 2001. I liked her for a while before I finally asked her out. On July 19th 2004 we started dating! Now almost 6 years later we are finally engaged!!! All the details are in the video. Thanks to all our friends and family!

We visited the Outerbanks of North Carolina on the day of the engagement! We visited Rodanthe, Nags Head, and Waves, NC and stopped at the Rodanthe house where Night's In Rodanthe was filmed, Jockey Ridge State Park, and ended at the Roanoke Trail in Nags Head Woods where I proposed and we watched the beautiful sunset. There is video of it in the movie!! We also had a few different dates that included Ice Skating and going to see the AWESOME magician Mike Super who won the NBC television show called Phenomenon.
