ঐতিহ্যবাহী রোজ গার্ডেন- Rose garden,Dhaka (Bangladesh Heritage Place)
The Rose Garden Palace is a mansion and garden in Old Dhaka. Built in the late 19th century, it became birthplace of the Awami League in 1949, when East Bengali liberal and social democrats converged in Dhaka to form an alternative political force against the Muslim League in Pakistan.
The property is situated on K.M. Das Lane in Tikatully of Old Dhaka, near the modern business district of Motijheel. The mansion was built by a landlord (zaminder) Hrikesh Das. He lived in the mansion for a decade. Later in 1927, he became bankrupt and sold the mansion to landlords of Nabinagar and Brahmanbaria. Due to the unfortunate death of Zamidar Boshuruddin Sarkar of Nabinagar, the family had to sell the mansion to a businessman.
History[edit]
The Rose Garden Palace was built by a Hindu zamindar Hrikesh Das in the late 19th century.[1] Around that time jalsas (parties) held at Baldha Garden were an important part of the social life of the city's wealthier Hindu residents. The story goes that Hrishikesh, a zamindar of lower caste background, being insulted on this account by someone at one of the jalsas at Baldha Garden, decided to create his own garden to outshine that of Baldha. Here he staged jalsas of his own. The centerpiece of the garden is an elegant pavilion. However, this was not created as a residence, but rather a setting for entertainment such as musical performances (although subsequent owners did use it as a house). This extravagant lifestyle caused Hrikesh to go bankrupt and he was forced to sell the property.
The palace was bought by Khan Bahadur Kazi Abdur Rashid from Hrikesh in 1936 and renamed the building Rashid Manzil. His eldest son Kazi Mohammed Bashir (Humayun) who carried his name and fame until this generation.
The building, which remains a private property to date, has been renovated by its owners keeping the original character fully maintained. At present it is owned by Qazi Abdur Raqib, Barrister, who has leased it out to the Bengal Motion Picture Studios Limited.
Location[edit]
The Rose Garden Palace is situated at Tikatuli near the Baldha Garden which is in Gopibug area. The exact location is at the K.M Das Lane of Tikatuli.
Architecture[edit]
The building has Corinthian columns and has eight apartments including a central hall on its ground floor. The upper floor has a further five apartments including a large dance hall in the middle. In the front yard, there was a fountain originally, the structure of which still remains. There are several classical marble statues in the garden, although the rose garden that gave the mansion its name does not exist anymore.
The lodge contains on the ground floor eight apartments including a 30’-0” + 15’-0” central hall whilst the upper floor has a further five apartments including a large dance hall measuring 45’-0” + 15’-0” in the middle.At the back of the building to the east there is a verandahanda triple-arched entrance porch which leads to a staircase for the upper storey. Originally there was an ornamental fountain in the garden and a number of classical marble statue.
Present condition[edit]
Visitors are allowed to visit the place as an afternoon refreshment spot. The owners mentioned that they wish to maintain the building and they have no plans to use them as their residential quarters nor to make this a profit-based tourist spot.
In popular culture[edit]
Hamiduzzaman Khan, a sculptor and painter, has illustrated a book called Rose Garden. The book contains sketches in pen-and-ink, crayon and watercolor of this landmark property. The text has been written in English by Kazi Ahmed Sajed.
৯৩১ সালে ঋষিকেশ দাস নামে এক ধনাঢ্য ব্যবসায়ী পুরান ঢাকার ঋষিকেশ রোডে ২২ বিঘা জমির উপর একটি বাগানবাড়ি তৈরী করেন। বাগনে প্রচুর গোলাপ গাছ থাকায় এর নাম হয় রোজ গার্ডেন। এছাড়া বাগানটি সুদৃশ্য ফোয়ারা, পাথরের মূর্তি ইত্যাদি দ্বারা সজ্জিত ছিল। মূল ভবনের দ্বিতীয় তলায় পাঁচটি কামরা আর একটি বড় নাচঘর আছে। নিচতলায় আছে আটটি কামরা.ভবন নির্মাণের কিছুদিন পর ঋষিকেশ দাশ দেউলিয়া হয়ে যান। ১৯৩৭ সালে রোজ গার্ডেন বিক্রি হয়ে যায় খান বাহাদুর আবদুর রশীদের কাছে। এর নতুন নামকরণ হয় ‘রশীদ মঞ্জিল’। এই বাড়ীটিতে অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ রাজনৈতিক সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল। ১৯৪৯ সালে পূর্ব পাকিস্তান আওয়ামী মুসলিম লীগ (পরে বাংলাদেশ আওয়ামী লীগ) গঠনের প্রাথমিক আলোচনা সভা এই বাড়িতে হয়েছিল। ১৯৬৬ সালে কাজী হুমায়ুন বসির এর মালিকানা লাভ করেন। ১৯৭০ সালে চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাণ প্রতিষ্ঠান ‘বেঙ্গল স্টুডিও’ কে লীজ দেয়া হয়। এ সময়ে চলচ্চিত্রের সূটিং স্পট হিসাবে এই ভবনটি ব্যবহৃত হয়। এখানে চিত্রায়িত কাহিনী চিত্র ’হারান দিন’ এ রোজ গার্ডেনেরে সেই সময়কার চিত্র সংরক্ষিত আছে

Rose Garden Palace, briefly known as the Rose Garden, is a historic ancient building of Bangladesh in the twentieth century. It is one of the most immovable traditions located in the Tikatuli area of the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
This ancient building is preserved by Bangladesh government as the historical archaeological heritage. The Department of Archeology of Bangladesh declared Rose Garden as a reserve building in 1989. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations of the country for foreign tourists and foreign tourists.
Rishikesh Das was an avid rich businessman of the British period. But when the family came out from the family, the Khandani families of Dhaka did not pay much attention to Rishikesh Das. It is said that once he was forced to come back to humiliation of a landlord of the landlord Narendra Narayan Roy Chowdhury and went to humiliation at the Balda Garden. Then he decided to build the Rose Garden Palace.
In 2018, the government of Bangladesh decided to purchase this building at the cost of 331 million 70 lakh two thousand 900 taka.
রোজ গার্ডেন প্যালেস, যা সংক্ষেপে রোজ গার্ডেন নামে সমধিক পরিচিত, বিংশ শতা্বদীর বাংলাদেশের একটি ঐতিহাসিক প্রাচীন ভবন। এটি বাংলাদেশের রাজধানী ঢাকা শহরের টিকাটুলি এলাকায় অবস্থিত একটি অন্যতম স্থাবর ঐতিহ্য।
এ প্রাচীন ভবনটি বাংলাদেশের ঐতিহাসিক পুরাকীর্তি হিসাবে বাংলাদেশ সরকার কর্তৃক সংরক্ষিত। বাংলাদেশের প্রত্নতত্ত্ব বিভাগ ১৯৮৯ সালে রোজ গার্ডেনকে সংরক্ষিত ভবন ঘোষণা করে। দেশী-বিদেশী পর্যদেশী-বিদেশী পর্যটকদের নিকট এটি ঢাকার অন্যতম একটি দর্শনীয় স্থান।
ঋষিকেশ দাস ছিলেন ব্রিটিশ আমলের নব্য ধনী ব্যবসায়ী। তবে সাধারণ পরিবার থেকে উঠে আসায় ঢাকার খানদানি পরিবারগুলো তেমন পাত্তা দিত না ঋষিকেশ দাসকে। কথিত আছে যে, একবার তিনি জমিদার নরেন্দ্র নারায়ণ রায় চৌধুরীর বাগানবাড়ি বলধা গার্ডেনের এক জলসায় গিয়ে অপমানিত হয়ে ফিরে আসতে বাধ্য হয়েছিলেন। এরপরই তিনি রোজ গার্ডেন প্যালেস তৈরির সিদ্ধান্ত নেন।
২০১৮ এ বাংলাদেশ সরকার এ ভবনটি ৩৩১ কোটি ৭০ লাখ দুই হাজার ৯০০ টাকা মূল্যে ক্রয়ের সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণ করে।

টিকাটুলির হুমায়ুন সাহেবের বাড়ী | রোজ গার্ডেন | রোজ গার্ডেন প্যালেস | Rose Garden Palace | Rose Garden Dhaka | ১৯ শতকের শেষের দিকে হিন্দু জমিদার হৃষিকেস দাস রোজ গার্ডেন প্যালেসটি নির্মাণ করেন।
সেসময়, বলধা গার্ডেনে অনুষ্ঠিত হওয়া জলসাগুলো শহরের বিত্তবান হিন্দুদের সামাজিক জীবনের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ ছিল। বলধা গার্ডেনের এমনই এক জলসায় হৃষিকেস দাস নামক এক নিম্নবর্ণের জমিদারকে অপমান করা হয় এবং এর ফলে তিনি নিজেই বাগানবাড়ি স্থাপনের সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহন করেন। হৃষিকেস দাস তাঁর নিজস্ব বাগানবাড়িতে জলসার আয়োজন করতেন। তাঁর বাগানের মূল আকর্ষণ ছিল একটি নয়নাভিরাম সাজঘর। তবে বাগানবাড়িটি শুধুমাত্র বিনোদনের জন্য তৈরি করা হয়েছিল (যদিও পরবর্তী মালিকরা এটি বসবাসের জন্যেও ব্যবহার করতেন)। বিলাসবহুল জীবনযাপনের কারনে হৃষিকেস দাস দেউলিয়া হয়ে যান এবং ফলশ্রুতিতে তাঁকে তাঁর সম্পত্তি বিক্রি করে দিতে হয়েছিল।
১৯৩৬ সালে খান বাহাদুর কাজী আব্দুর রশিদ এই প্রাসাদটি হৃষিকেস দাসের কাছ থেকে কিনে নেন এবং প্রাসাদটির নামকরণ করেন রশিদ মঞ্জিল। তাঁর বড় ছেলে কাজী মোহাম্মদ বশির (হুমায়ুন) আজ অবধি তাঁদের নাম ও খ্যাতিকে ধরে রেখেছেন।
প্রাসাদের পিছনে পূর্বদিকে একটি বারান্দা আছে যেখানে প্রবেশের জন্য ধনুকাকৃতির তিনস্তর বিশিষ্ট একটি প্রবেশপথ রয়েছে যেটি দিয়ে উপরে ওঠার সিঁড়িতে যাওয়া যায়।

The government is going to purchase the historical ‘Rose Garden’ in Old Dhaka, from where from the country’s largest political party, Bangladesh Awami League, started its journey. The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase on Wednesday (08.08.18) approved the proposal of purchasing the Rose Garden, which is now preserved as an archaeological site. Rose Garden Palace is a beautiful prominent building in Tikatully of Old Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was originally built for Hrikesh Das the Hindu Zaminder of Dhaka as a pleasure lodge. It is undergoing renovation and retains landmark status in Bangladesh. It is popularly known as “ROSE GARDEN” & “Humayun Shaheber Bari”. The garden is located at the end of K.M. Das Lane of Tikatuli near Motijheel area. This is a private property. You have to request there for your entry. But there is no guarantee whether you will be permitted to enter or not.
রোজ গার্ডেন প্যালেস ঢাকার টিকাটুলিতে অবস্থিত একটি দারুণ স্থাপত্যকীর্তি। এটা মূলত ঢাকার হিন্দু জমিদার হৃষীকেশ দাস এর প্রমোদস্থল হিসেবে বানানো হয়। বর্তমানে এটির কিছু অংশে পরিবর্তনের কাজ চলছে। আশে পাশের লোকেরা এটিকে 'রোজ গার্ডেন' বা 'হুমায়ুন সাহেবের বাড়ি' নামেই ভালো চেনে। এর অবস্থান মতিঝিলের কাছে টিকাটুলির কে এম দাস লেনের শেষের দিকে। এখানে ঢুকতে গেলে আপনাকে আগে থেকে অনুমতি নিয়ে রাখতে হবে। তবে অনুমতি যে পাবেন এমন কোন নিশ্চয়তা নেই। এটি মূলত শ্যুটিং স্পট হিসবেই ব্যবহৃত হয়।

ইতিহাস
রোজ গার্ডেনের গোড়াপত্তনের ইতিহাস ঘাটতে গেলে জানা যায়, হৃষিকেশ দাস নামক এক লোক এই বাড়ির নির্মাতা যিনি ঢাকার একজন জমিদার ছিলেন। হৃষিকেশ দাস একদিন বলধা গার্ডেনে গিয়েছিলেন বলধার জলসা ঘরের জলসা দেখতে। তবে প্রচণ্ড অপমানিত হয়ে তাকে ফিরে আসতে হয়। শোনা কথা, রূপলাল বাবু যেমন আহসান মঞ্জিল দেখে রূপলাল হাউস বানিয়েছিলেন। তেমনি হৃষিকেশ বাবু বলধা গার্ডেনের জলসায় অপমানিত হয়ে বানালেন প্রাসাদসম রোজ গার্ডেন.............

Living in Dhaka, I did not know about this beautiful place. Of course, it is inside Dhaka Cantonment and a bit restricted area and I believe foreigners are not allowed there. One of our friends invited us to visit the beautiful place and we were spell bound to see the vast openness of the whole area. We had to leave the car at a distance to walk. It was a pleasant walk along side the lake. At night, the bridge over the lake looked so beautiful. Warm nice summer breeze was enjoyable. After walking for sometime we reached the restaurant over the lake. It was very new, only opened in May 2015. Beautifully decorated. Very bright and lively with people on both floors. We went to get a sit on top floor but it was fully booked. So had to come down and fortunately got a sit next to the window overlooking the bridge which was changing colours all the time. The rooms are open and very spacious. Food was served at the counter, self service though there were plenty of wait staff. They are not very good and capable to handle such big crowd. The quality of food was good. I loved the Meat Kababs and Nan. The Biryani was a bit dry and meat was not soft. Ice cream choices were good. There are spaces to sit outside but that was also full, but outside would be warm and probably mosquitoes. The prices of food were incredibly low, I am sure because they get everything at subsidized rate. Anyway, it was inside Cantonment and that is why everything was in order and clean. The restaurant remains open till 10 pm. If people come there at later afternoon can ride decorated fancy boats on lake. It was a great place for outing, for food as well as for the stroll at evening.
Rose Garden Palace:
The Rose Garden Palace is a mansion and garden in Old Dhaka. Built in the late 19th century, it became birthplace of the Awami League in 1949, when East Bengali liberal and social democrats converged in Dhaka to form an alternative political force against the Muslim League in Pakistan.
The property is situated on K.M. Das Lane in Tikatully of Old Dhaka, near the modern business district of Motijheel. The mansion was built by a landlord (zamindar) Hrikesh Das. He lived in the mansion for a decade. Later in 1927, he became bankrupt and sold the mansion to landlords of Nabinagar and Brahmanbaria. Due to the unfortunate death of Zamidar Boshuruddin Sarkar of Nabinagar, the family had to sell the mansion to a businessman.
The Rose Garden Palace was built by a Hindu zamindar Hrikesh Das in the late 19th century.[1] Around that time jalsas (parties) held at Baldha Garden were an important part of the social life of the city's wealthier Hindu residents. The story goes that Hrishikesh, a zamindar of lower caste background, being insulted on this account by someone at one of the jalsas at Baldha Garden, decided to create his own garden to outshine that of Baldha.

This day is so important for me as a Muslim. Every year I celebrate this day by doing different religious activities. This video or slide show is so memorable for me.
