Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, Aberdeen, Scotland
Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, Aberdeen, Scotland - Located in Aberdeen, Scotland eighty one miles north of St Andrews, Royal Aberdeen Golf Club was founded in 1780 as the Society of Golfers at Aberdeen. It became the Aberdeen Golf Club in 1815. The club’s ‘Royal’ designation was granted by Edward VII in 1903. Royal Aberdeen was originally designed by brothers Archie and Robert Simpson and later re-bunkered and lengthened by James Braid. It is the sixth oldest club in the world…and accredited in 1783 as home to the five minute rule to find your ball. This is a demanding test of Scottish links golf which runs along the North Sea shore. The fairways tumble and pitch, elevations change dramatically. There is no finer outward nine in the game. The first plays from a tee box beside the clubhouse directly toward the North Sea. The next eight play north between towering dunes on the right and a steep slope on the left that plateaus into what used to be farmland but is now the inward nine. The approach to nine plays steadily up the side of the dunes easily adding a club if not two. The inward nine runs on high ground through yellow whins and purple heather, providing a unique contrast to the sand dunes which are dominant in the outward holes…which offer more of a battle with the elements. Host of the 2014 Scottish Open, this 6,415 yard par 70 layout – along with Cruden Bay and Trump International Golf Links – is where you want to spend a couple days either coming or going to the Scottish Highlands.

Aberdeen is a port city in northeast Scotland, where the Dee and Don rivers meet the North Sea. With an offshore petroleum industry, the city is home to an international population. It's also known as the ‘Granite City’ for its many enduring grey-stone buildings. The 19th-century Marischal College is typical – a monumental Victorian landmark that’s now headquarters of the City Council.
Aberdeen is Scotland's third most populous city, one of Scotland's 32 local government council areas and the United Kingdom's 37th most populous built-up area. Nicknames include the Granite City, the Grey City and the Silver City with the Golden Sands. During the mid-18th to mid-20th centuries, Aberdeen's buildings incorporated locally quarried grey granite, which can sparkle like silver because of its high mica content.
Aberdeen received Royal Burgh status from David I of Scotland (1124–53), transforming the city economically. The city's two universities, the University of Aberdeen, founded in 1495, and Robert Gordon University, which was awarded university status in 1992, make Aberdeen the educational centre of the north-east of Scotland. The traditional industries of fishing, paper-making, shipbuilding, and textiles have been overtaken by the oil industry and Aberdeen's seaport. Aberdeen Heliport is one of the busiest commercial heliports in the world and the seaport is the largest in the north-east of Scotland.
Aberdeen has won the Britain in Bloom competition a record-breaking ten times, and hosts the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, a major international event which attracts up to 1000 of the most talented young performing arts companies. In 2015, Mercer named Aberdeen the 57th most liveable city in the world, as well as the fourth most liveable city in Britain. In 2012, HSBC named Aberdeen as a leading business hub and one of eight 'super cities' spearheading the UK's economy, marking it as the only city in Scotland to receive this accolade.
Aberdeen Airport (ABZ), at Dyce in the north of the city, serves domestic and international destinations. The Dee Estuary, Aberdeen's harbour, has continually been improved. Starting out as a fishing port. Aberdeen is connected to the UK National Cycle Network, and has a track to the south connecting to cities such as Dundee and Edinburgh. National Express operate express coach services to London twice daily.

Welcome to Newmachar Golf Club. Newmachar is home to two 18 hole golf courses as well as a spacious driving range and a short-game practice area.
Newmachar Golf Club is located on the outskirts of Aberdeen, only five miles from the international airport and the village of Dyce.
The par 72, SSS 74, Hawkshill course was designed by Dave Thomas and opened for play in 1990.
The course has been endorsed by Peter Alliss, and is regarded as one of the toughest tests of golf in the area. It has already hosted major championships, including the Scottish Professional Championship and the Scottish Seniors Open.
The Swailend course, par 72, SSS 71, was also designed by Dave Thomas and opened for play in 1997. Slightly less demanding than the Hawkshill course, it is nevertheless an excellent test for golfers of all standards.
