Tsu Castle ruins and Hydrangeas, Mie
Tsu Castle ruins and Hydrangeas, Mie
In 1558, Hosono Fujiatsu built a castle at the combination of the Ano and Iwata Rivers, using the river as the natural moat.
In the 17th century, Tōdō Takatora, a famous castle architect, renovated Tsu Castle and rejuvenated the castle town.
The castle was demilitarized in 1871, and most of its remaining structures were destroyed, except for part of the moats and two gates.

Suemori Castle Ruins, Noto Peninsula Japan
Sengoku period was a time of social upheaval, political intrigue, and nearly constant military conflict in Japan(15th - 17th century). Maeda Toshiie was one of famous Daimyo (Daimyo were the most powerful feudal rulers.) Toshiie and Sassa Narimasa who was also Daimyo fought in 1584 at Suemori Castle. Toshie won, then he became a great Daimyo. Noto Peninsula is located at the north west of Honshu facing the Sea of Japan.
Japan's BLACK CASTLE|Day 74 - Shimane
Matsue Castle (松江城, Matsuejō) is one of only a dozen original castles in Japan, meaning that its main tower has survived to this day through fires, earthquakes and the anti-feudal demolitions of the Meiji Period. It is sometimes called the black castle after its darkly-colored, austere exterior.
Matsue Castle was completed in 1611, a few years after the last decisive battle of feudal Japan. In 1638, the fief and castle were reassigned to a branch of the Matsudaira clan, relatives of the ruling Tokugawa. Perched atop a hill and surrounded by a moat and thick walls, the castle was built to withstand a war, though, thanks to the timing of its construction, it never actually saw a battle. Major renovation works were undertaken in the 1950s to further preserve it, and the interior of the main keep now houses a museum displaying period arms and artifacts.
Izumo Taisha (出雲大社) is located in the city of Izumo in Shimane Prefecture, a one hour train ride west of Matsue. It is one of Japan's most important shrines. There are no records of exactly when Izumo Taisha was built, but it is often considered the oldest shrine in Japan, being already in existence in the early 700s as revealed by the nation's oldest chronicles.
Izumo used to be ruled by a powerful clan in pre-historic times, and the region plays a central role in Japan's creation mythology. The main deity (kami) enshrined at Izumo Taisha is Okuninushi no Okami. According to the creation myths, Okuninushi was the creator of the land of Japan and the ruler of Izumo. He also became known as the deity of good relationships and marriage. Visitors consequently clap their hands four times instead of the usual two times during their prayers: twice for themselves and twice for their actual or desired partners.

Offbeat Japan: Takeda Castle (竹田城跡)
The Takeda Castle, constructed on a mountain at 353 meters of altitude, is one of the top hundred famous castles in Japan.
In autumn when the sky is clear, fog can be seen early in the morning. The view is such that the castle can be seen surrounded by a sea of clouds, thus resembling a castle floating in the sky.
Yorii Hojo Matsuri (Festival) Samurai battle
Yorii Hojo Festival held on the second Sunday of April every year, is a festival recreating the scene of a samurai battle which broke out in present day Yorii area back in 1590. The festival starts as a total of 500 people dressed in traditional Japanese war armor march through the city center, followed by a war opening ceremony at Hachigatajo Park, going on into the fierce battle unfurled at Tamayodokawara (riverbeds) along Arakawa River. There are firing demonstrations of guns and cannons used in the Civil War period as well. Visitors just watching the mock battle will be able to imagine a real battle of samurai in the period. Visitors will get information on the period of Civil War at any other time as well, because Hachigata Castle Park, which was constructed in the ruins of Hachigata Castle in Yorii Town maintains the mood of the period. Yorii Town also has the Hachigata-jo Castle History Museum.
Date: Held on the second Sunday of April every year
Place: Town Main Street, Tamayodokawara riverbeds, Hachigatajo Park, Yorii Town, Osato County, Saitama Prefecture

Maruoka Castle, Japan
Maruoka Castle (丸岡城 Maruoka-jō?) is a Japanese castle, located in Maruoka, Fukui, and famous for its donjon (tenshu), the oldest in Japan.[1] Built in 1576 by order of Shibata Katsutoyo, only the central tower (tenshu) remains; the grounds are used by the local populace for festivals such as hanami and traditional parades. The castle is also known as Kasumi-ga-jō (霞ヶ城 Mist Castle?) due to the legend that whenever an enemy approaches the castle, a thick mist appears and hides it.
