Cooper Creek 2018 Deepwater MO Dirt Biking Paul R Goodchild PhD CPA 1
Dirt Biking at Cooper Creek Motorcycle and ATV Area, Deepwater Missouri
Cooper Creek ATV Area is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Harry S. Truman Project and is the only area on Truman Lake that ATV’s and dirt bikes are allowed. Cooper Creek Park covers approximately 400 acres of hills, trails, and open riding. Use of the area is currently free of charge. There are all types of riding terrain in the park and it can be great. Some hills and tough climbs, trails through woods, trails on beaches, trails in sand, mud, mud pits, and serious deep mud, water, deep water, wide trails, rocks, rock ledges and a few open areas. It is a great riding park and a wonderful place for a parent and child to ride together or a family to ride that can handle some challenges.
If the Reservoir gets above 20 feet, they close the riding area. When it is open, there are two types of water issues. First, when the Reservoir is high, the trails are limited and standing water can be a problem, though you can ride around it. Second, when it rains and groundwater is pushing up the top layer is a real mess and pretty much it becomes ATV with all-wheel drive and a winch.
Cooper Creek ATV area is located one mile east of the town of Deepwater and is easily accessible by State Highway 13 and Henry County Road SE700. The riding area’s boundaries are either fenced or signed.

I am rider #973 from the Forward Motion Hare Scramble Series, say hello to me if you see me at the track. It is nice to meet riders that check out the videos. Video Taken with a Sony Action Cam HDR AS30V or FDR X1000V camcorder. As is always the case, I apologize for the occasional “blue” language. Craig is rider #837, Ryan is rider #981, David is rider #982, Dan is #904, Matt is rider #972, and Brandon is rider #833. They are generally there to help me when I need it, which is often. Craig and Dan were there today to pull me out of the mud along the south road. I know better than to try to pass, but I gave it a sad attempt anyways.
HIKING MISSOURI - THE BLUE SPRING TRAIL!
MISSOURI HIKING! BLUE SPRING TRAIL. Deep in the Ozark National Scenic Riverway we found this gem of a hike. Blue Spring is absolutely phenomenal in its size and beauty. Crystal clear water, 300 feet deep. Missouri Hiking. Wow, who knew there was so much to see? We came from Virginia not knowing what to expect and wow were we surprised! Loved the hike and the spring we found. We had the trail all to ourselves! This was our first ever hike in Missouri. National Park Service, big thanks for this park!

Monegaw Springs Missouri Caves Younger Gang Hideout
Monegaw Springs Missouri Caves Younger Gang Hideout
Monegaw Springs was the original home of a band of Osage Indians, whose chief had the name Monegaw. It is situated in west central Missouri with the Osage River on one side, and miles and miles of timber, small lakes, and open meadows on the other three sides. Within it's circle of confluence were two creeks; Big Monegaw and Little Monegaw. Several natural springs were within its bounds, some being black sulphur water, some being white sulphur water, some iron water, some fresh water, and some unknown. There is a very impressive bluff with shallow caves along the river, and a deep, dark cave on the north side of town.
One of many towns throughout the Ozarks that sprang up during the mineral water craze of the later 1800s and early 1900s. In fact, nearly all towns in the region that have the words springs on the end of their name were founded as mineral-water spas or resorts.
One of the earliest such resort towns in the Ozarks was Monegaw Springs, located about nine or ten miles west of Osceola in St. Clair County, Missouri. It was established before the Civil War and, like its neighbor to the east, was burned by Jim Lane and his Kansas jayhawkers during the war. It was rebuilt and began to flourish as a resort after the Civil War. It was during this time that it became a hideout for the infamous Younger gang. The Youngers often frequented one of the town's hotels and an adjacent tavern, and they used a secluded cave on the nearby Osage River as a hideout. A bluff above the river near the cave became known locally as Younger Lookout.
Monegaw Springs, like many of the other spring-water towns, declined dramatically after the mineral-water craze passed, and its fate as a near ghost town was sealed when the building of the Baldwin Lakes cut off easy access to the town. Today, the once-thriving little resort town is located in an out-of-the-way spot that few people visit.

Elayne is on Ceasar and Oakley is riding Cody. It was a short fun time, but a nice way to end a long ride up in the hills of Huckleberry Ridge. Chase is a Rowdy bred horse top and bottom.
2012_05_12 Rush Creek Conservation Area
This is part of the McHenry County Conservation District, 26 miles away from where we live, so not all that far. Wilma and I had a good time here. This trail map was extracted from a brochure found on their web site. They also had boxes for trail maps at both the horse parking trail head and the hiking trail head. I did not check the box at the horse parking area, but there actually were trail maps in the hiking trail head map box. There were numbered posts we encountered on the part of the hiking trail we were on. None on the horse trail. The trail marker numbers are not depicted on either the map I got off the web site or the one at the trail head. In any case, the trails were all well marked.

Chadwick ATV ORV Motorcycle Use Area, Chadwick, Missouri
From the website: Nearly 80 miles of multi-use trails for ATV, motorcycle and mountain bikes wind in and out of deep, forested hollows and down long ridge tops. It is possible to plan a wide variety of full-loop riding without backtracking. The riding area has evolved to a point where portions of all trails have a most difficult rating. Therefore, all riders will encounter advanced riding challenges. There are two Day Use Areas associated with the riding area. One is Camp Ridge located on the northeast edge of the riding area just off H Highway - No overnight camping is allowed here. A vault toilet and information board is present. The other area is the KC Pavilion. This area provides a picnic pavilion, a vault toilet, and an information board. The KC Pavilion is located along Trail 101 just as it leaves Trail 171. A printable brochure of the recreational area and a printable map is available.
The cost to ride for the day is $8 and more if you use a card. There are multiple day passes and you can buy a season’s pass. Stop at Kay’s Country Store to get your pass or passes.
The trails are in great shape. I have a blast every time I go out to Chadwick, but it is better to go with someone that knows the place. I was a little slow and awkward and parted many of the hills by falling down them. I am glad to have friends to put up with me and help me. Some of the videos have adult language, be advised if you are sensitive.
It is still the best place in the Midwest to ride. If you are going to ride Chadwick, make sure you are aware of the skill level on each of the trails. It has considerable rocky terrain and the black diamond trails are not for the novice rider. Even the blue level has some good drops on rocks. If you are a novice, stick to the main double-wide trails. They are well maintained and even the puddles had a solid surface underneath them. It is a good idea to ride with someone that knows the park, but you should definitely ride with a friend.
You can download a map at their website
