Checkout the seals on the deck of the ship!
The pier was closed, and if you compare the old video footage I did from a year ago. You will notice the ship is starting to break apart.

Flew my drone around the SS Palo Alto today at Seacliff State Beach in Aptos, CA. This WW1 era concrete ship was repurposed in 1930 and partially sunk off the pier, where it served as an amusement ship complete with a dance floor, cafe and swimming pool. Two years later the company that owned the ship went bankrupt and since then the ship has undergone decades of deterioration and structural failure. Today it is home to a fuck ton of birds.

SS Palo Alto aka The Cement Ship at the Seacliff State Beach in Aptos, CA
When I first got my quadcopter, I took footage of the ship during a trip to the Seacliff State Beach. I was still a beginner pilot, as evident by shaky footage, but I got some great shots of the ship regardless.
Then, more recently I heard from a coworker that the huge storm that came through during the first of February had moved the ship. He also said it washed all sorts of debris into the parking lots and onto the shore. The next day I brought my quadcopter up to get some footage, much better flying I might add.
When I got home, I compared the position of the ship to my older footage and I was amazed at how much it had moved. This is a compilation of that footage.

Nacho Rolling-The Cement Ship, Aptos Ca. SS Palo Alto
SS Palo Alto was a concrete ship built as a tanker at the end of World War I. She was built by the San Francisco Shipbuilding Company at the U.S. Naval Shipyard in Oakland, California. She was launched on 29 May 1919, too late to see service in the war. She was mothballed in Oakland until 1929, when she was bought by the Seacliff Amusement Corporation and towed to Seacliff State Beach in Aptos, California. A pier was built leading to the ship in 1930, and she was sunk in a few feet in the water so that her keel rested on the bottom. There she was refitted as an amusement ship, with amenities including a dance floor, a swimming pool and a café. The ship cracked at the midsection during a winter storm. The State of California purchased the ship, and she was stripped of her fittings and left as a fishing pier.
