* Tanuki Japanese Restaurant 319 Queen Street, Auckland City (09) 379-5353
Tanuki Japanese Restaurant is an “Izakaya” style restaurant with the rustic warmth of a country style restaurant that serves all the Japanese favourites. Izakaya food is meant to be shared. Tanuki was the first Japanese restaurant in New Zealand to have more then one sake on its menu, in fact it started with 40 different kinds and even now still has 30 types.
* Tanuki's Cave Yakitori Bar 319b Queen Street, Auckland City (09) 379-5151
Yakitori literally means ‘grilled chicken’, but the Cave offers a wide variation of meats, seafood, and vegetable dishes. All grilled on bamboo skewers and basted with The Cave's special in-house sauce or grilled with salt. Yakitori tastes great with beer and it is recommend to try it with Japanese Sapporo or Asahi beer on tap.
* Kura Japanese Restaurant 315B Queen Street, Auckland City (09) 379-5656
Kura restaurant is modern style Japanese food with a fusion twist. Kura means “warehouse” in Japanese. The restaurant is situated downstairs in an old grain silo dating back to Auckland’s early days when the Waihorotui creek flowed down Queen Street valley.

ArtDEGO
On Sunday the 4th of November 2012, 32 talented individuals from all over Auckland gathered at the Nathan Club in Britomart for ArtDEGO. Combining the city's best and brightest up-and-coming chefs, the Next Crew, with a group of incredibly talented artists, we produced a pretty unique dining experience for 110 lucky people.
A one night only exhibition of the artists' work was installed and curated by Mink Boyce of ArtWeek Auckland, and each of the five courses served was the product of a creative match between one chef and one artist.
The night began with cocktails created by one of Auckland's best mixologists, Cam Timmins of mea culpa, and canapes by Ed Verner of Sidart. Thanks to creative direction and styling by Caroline Paynter and an incredible Front of House team headed by Nick Gallagher of Depot, the Nathan Club looked stunning and the entire night ran more smoothly than we thought possible. The number of people who poured their efforts into making ArtDEGO happen are far too many to list here (just watch the video!), but we at gatherandhunt.co.nz could not be prouder to have played our part in bringing this dream night to life.
Massive thanks to our amazing videographer Benj Brooking and photographer Laura Forest for documenting the entire event so beautifully. Because of you we get to keep it forever!
Thank you so much to Auckland artist Suren Unka for allowing us to use this track, it's called Alice.
