So, I was going to have an early night, but got talking to a couple of people in the convenience store who said I should visit kenkoji temple on New Years Eve. Glad I did, as it was a great experience :-)

Yamanashi Iyashi no Sato - いやしの里 - 4K Ultra HD
Yamanashi Iyashi no Sato - いやしの里 - 4K Ultra HD : Destroyed by a landslide in 1966, Iyashi no Sato was a former village located near Lake Saiko and in front of Mt. Fuji. It was only in 2000 that some former villagers and the city hall, decided to rebuild the place into a magnificent open air museum. Here people can not only enjoy some of village’s oldest artefact but also art, craftwork and traditional Japanese sweets and food.
Despite being 100% tourist oriented, the Iyashi no Sato is really a nice little village that needs to be visited if you are traveling around Mt Fuji.

Mount Fuji 5th Station, Hakone Pirate Ship Cruise, Onsen Hotel | Day 10 | Hakone, Japan
Day 10 in Japan, we rented a car in Odawara and drove to Lake Kawaguchiko, which is said to be the nicest place to see Mount Fuji from afar. We saved a lot of money on our airbnb accommodations so we decided to splurge one night for our hotel stay at Fuji Kawaguchiko Onsen Hotel with an on-suite onsen and a view of Lake Kawaguchi. With an included 12 course dinner worth $150, a traditional ryokan experience, spectacular views and a buffet breakfast, the $600 CAD price tag was justified.
Next morning we headed to Mt. Fuji 5th station and tried their black ice cream. After turning our mouths black, we headed back down to the Togendai Port and boarded the Hakone Pirate ship cruise and toured around Lake Ashi.
We ended the night by taking the Romance train into Tokyo where we had conveyor belt suhi at Genki Sushi in Shibuya. A few more days in Tokyo and that'll conclude this Japan series, thanks for watching!

Vlog #40/ Saiko Iyashio-Sato Village & Chureito Pagoda
We got to dress up like ninjas and samurais, and we also got to see Mt Fuji clear as day. We had to climb a lot of stairs to get to the top, but it was TOTALLY worth it as you can see from the view I got to experience. I can't wait to go back when the cherry blossoms are all in bloom. HATSUMODE JAPANESE NEW YEARS CULTURE AND TRADITION
Many people make their first visit to a shrine or a temple after the temple bells have pealed out the old year, or during the first week of the New Ÿear. They throw money into offertory box and pray far good fortune. After worshipping. they a good luck talisman or a sacred arrow with white feathers. It is fun to draw lots for a written fortune bearing a Chinese character meaning either good or bad luck. After reading the fortune, people tie the slip of paper to a branch of a tree the shrine precincts for better luck.

Japanese dragon
Japanese dragons (日本の竜 Nihon no ryū) are diverse legendary creatures in Japanese mythology and folklore. Japanese dragon myths amalgamate native legends with imported stories about dragons from China, Korea and India. The style of the dragon was heavily influenced by the Chinese dragon. Like these other Asian dragons, most Japanese ones are water deities associated with rainfall and bodies of water, and are typically depicted as large, wingless, serpentine creatures with clawed feet. The modern Japanese language has numerous dragon words, including indigenous tatsu from Old Japanese ta-tu, Sino-Japanese ryū or ryō 竜 from Chinese lóng 龍, nāga ナーガ from Sanskrit nāga, and doragon ドラゴン from English dragon (the latter being used almost exclusively to refer to the European dragon and derived fictional creatures).
