The Sunset Cruise along the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom leaves from directly in front of the Indochine Market at around 5 pm, costs 50 baht and takes about 1 hour. There is a small sign at the top of the stairway that leads down to the boat dock. It pays to get there early as the upper deck fills quite quickly and even mid week the cruise is very popular. The upper deck has the best view, the umbrellas providing enough shade in the late afternoon. The boat sets of at a leisurely pace and follows the shore line along Nakhon Phanom as far as Saint Anna Nong Saeng Catholic church and then crosses over to the Lao side and follows it back to where the Thai / Lao ferry services docks before crossing back to the Thai side. Drinks and food are available on board at very reasonable prices. A cold can of Leo costs just 30 baht and a skewer of 5 deep fried fish balls is 10 baht. I found it a very relaxing experience and very good value for the price. See my map of the Nakhon Phanom area for the location -
