After visiting Cannes and Iles Saint Marguerite. Yesterday I decided to take a days rest, just walking along the Riviera waterfront and seeing where it takes me. I found my self exploring Saint Jean-Cap-Ferrat. I was glad to be out of Nice. the week before another terrorist attack in Barcelona had put the City on edge after what had happened there the year before. Music with thanks Chris bel From Nice. Tomorrow heading for the Alps and Gorge Verdon in the next video.

Exploring the eastern peninsula of Cap Ferrat
If a competition of the most beautiful coastal walks on the French Riviera would be arranged, the one starting from St Jean Cap Ferrat and going around the smaller eastern peninsula and pointe Saint Hospice, should certainly be shortlisted.
Not exactly a hidden gem, this trail nevertheless is missed by many visitors to the Riviera. This is a leisurely walk for everybody. The path is quite narrow after La Paloma beach, widening soon. The Guide Randoxygène has included the walk in their selection of coastal trails. The guidebook's duration of two hours seems to include the stops.
The legend tells that in the middle ages a hermit called Hospice stayed his whole life praying in a tower on the highest point of this peninsula. On this point, a chapel was later constructed.
There is also a reminder of the madness of war. 90 Belgian soldiers who were badly poisoned by mustard gas in WW I were later treated on the French Riviera and eventually buried in the cemetery of the chapel.
On a lighter note, in good weather the trail seems to be popular among locals all year round. Needless to say, the three small beaches (La Paloma, Les Fossettes and Les Fosses) on both sides of the peninsula attract sun seekers in summer.

Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat --- Probably, the BEST PLACE in the whole French Riviera!
Unique air, crystal clear water make Cap Ferrat unforgettable!
Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat is an exceptional site and one of the most loveliest places on the Mediterranean coast. The peninsula is situated next to Nice and Villefranche sur Mer and extends out to Cap Ferrat. Its tranquillity and warm climate make it a favourite holiday destination amongst European aristocracy and international millionnaires.
In order to better appreciate the beauty of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, you can visit on foot by taking the coastal path. It is signposted for 14 km and divided into 3 parts : the tour of Cap Ferrat, the pine-forest and the Maurice Rouvier walk which links Saint Jean Cap Ferrat to Beaulieu.
At the tip of Cap Ferrat, you will find one of the most beautiful palaces in the world, the Grand Hotel du Cap which is set amidst a stunning garden.
You can visit one of the most beautiful villas on the peninsula which is open to the public and is like a palace from One Thousand and One Nights : the Villa Ile in France. This mansion is decorated with the treasures of the baronness Beatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild. More than 5000 works of art are displayed, together with an impressive collection of furniture, lamps and carpets... it's marvellous !
The visit continues in the gardens of the villa surrounded by the sea. The Baronness Ephrussi de Rothschild was inspired by her travels to create 7 gardens designed around several themes.. Spanish, Florentine or Japanese...garden of the Muses, garden of the Lapidary, the rose garden... impeccable walk-ways, palm-trees and rare fragrances surround this paradise.
Saint Jean Cap Ferrat is also known for the luxurious properties nestled amongst lush vegetation. Discretely built and protected from prying eyes, they often include a private beach and locked gate-ways. Everything is not alway what it seems on the Cote d'Azur.

Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat Un endroit Magnifique
