The Timișoara Orthodox Cathedral is a Romanian Orthodox church in Timișoara, in the historical Banat region, in western Romania. We visited the Cathedral and the Victory Square with the statue of Romulus and Remus which is a tribute to Italy. We also enjoyed the Opera House on the large square. We had lunch at a local restaurant and had a very difficult time trying to figure out what to order since it was all in Romanian! We used Body and Soul by Shahin and Sepehr for the music.

Born in Budapest, his first piano teacher was Emma Németh, one of the last pupils of Claude Debussy. Xaver Varnus has played virtually every important organ in the world, including those in Bach's Thomaskirche in Leipzig (2014), Berliner Dom (2013), Notre-Dame (1981), Saint-Sulpice (2006) and Saint-Eustache (1996) in Paris, National Shrine in Washington, D.C. (1985), and Canterbury Cathedral (2004), as well as the largest existing instrument in the world, the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia (1985). His Quadruple Platinum Disc winning album From Ravel to Vangelis, released by Sony BMG in 2007, is the best-selling organ CD ever. As a Canadian citizen, Xaver Varnus resides in Berlin, Germany. Put simply, Varnus is a monster talent, every bit as stimulating and individual as the late Glenn Gould (The Globe & Mail, Canada's National Newspaper).

The Densus St Nicholas' Church, Church is one of the oldest Romanian churches in Romania. And one of the most unusual.
It was built on the site of a 2nd-century Roman temple. There are interesting frescos, but it is not allowed to film inside.

Sighisoara Biserica Manastirii (The Monastery Church) ✔
➤ “The Monastery Church, also known as the Church of the Dominican Monastery (Romanian: Biserica Mănăstirii Dominicane), is a Gothic church formerly part of a medieval Dominican monastery in Sighişoara, Romania The church was erected in 1289, and incorporates half of a Dominican monastery which was demolished in 1888. The monastery was one of a network planned by Paulus Hungarus (Paul the Hungarian) throughout the Kingdom of Hungary to act as a bulwark against heresy. Saxon nobleman Leonard Barlabassy gave the church an endowment.
Between the inside and outside of the church there are some stylistic differences. If in the interior the Baroque style is prevailing, on the exterior the simple facades retain most of the elements of late Gothic architecture. The west facade is the most impressive, dominated by a triangular pediment equipped with three very tall gothic windows. After the demolition of medieval buildings located in the space between the church and the Clock Tower, on the southern side were built three vertical columns, which end at the top with three arches supporting masonry church.
Inside the church architectural elements and artistic furniture typical of the early Baroque era are prevailing. Elements such as pillars and arches, the altar, pews, canopy, painted organ and balconies and oriental carpets that adorn the church.
The most important piece of furniture is a baptismal font made in bronze. This font is the oldest and most valuable piese of furniture art in the church. A latin inscription is visible on the cup showing the scope of baptism: „Baptism banish the forces of evil and the devil” and specifing the name of the author of the artwork:”This work was made by the hands of Jacob, the one that makes bells, in the Year of Our Lord 1440”.
The font was made in a local workshop in Sighisoara; it is 108.5 cm high and has 60.3 cm of diameter. The cup bell contains the inscription mentioned and it’s decorated with biblical scenes and lilies.
A similar font, dating from the same period, is in the Evangelical Church of Sibiu, but it doesn’t have the same „grace” as the one in Sighisoara.”

Biserica catolică Sfânta Cruce (mai corect, poate, Înălțarea Sfintei Cruci) este un monument istoric situat în zona centrală a orașului. Construcția bisericii a început în anul 1751 atunci când satul Miercurea Ciuc, având câteva sute de locuitori, primește statut de parohie. Biserica este terminată în anul 1758, în 1771 i se adaugă capela Sfântului Ioan Nepomuk și este sfințită în 1784. În partea sudică, în pridvorul de la intrarea principală, se găsește statuia Sfântului Anton de Padova. În interiorul bisericii se remarcă altarul principal realizat în stil baroc într-o tehnică mixtă (cruce, bazorelieful Golgotei şi pictură). Lângă pereții laterali sunt statuile Sfintei Fecioare și a Sfântului Ladislau (1040-1095, regele care a desăvârșit creștinizarea Ungariei). Pe amvon stă Pasărea Turul, simbol important în mitologia maghiară. Pe peretele nordic, în partea opusă pridvorului, este capela cu statuia lui Ioan Nepomuk (preot și martir creștin din a doua jumătate a sec. XIV). Biserica mai deține două relicve valoroase și anume un crucifix de pe vremea lui Mateia Corvin (circa 1470), precum și Cartea Congregaţiei Maria, tipărită la Mănăstirea franciscană de la Şumuleu-Ciuc înainte de 1731. Orașul dezvoltându-se, la începutul secolului XX biserica devine neîncăpătoare, dar visul credincioșilor catolici din Miercurea Ciuc de a avea o nouă biserică se împlinește abia un secol mai târziu, în anul 2003 fiind finalizată alături superba Biserică Millennium (sau Biserica cu Îngeri).
The Catholic Church of the Holy Cross (more correctly, perhaps, the Ascension of the Holy Cross) is a historic monument located in the central area of the city. The construction of the church began in 1751 when the village of Miercurea Ciuc, having several hundred inhabitants, was given the status of parish. The church was completed in 1758, in 1771 the chapel of St. John Nepomuk was added and was sanctified in 1784. In the the porch (the main entrance) is the statue of St. Anton de Padua. Inside the church is the main altar made in Baroque style in a mixed technique (the cross, the bas-relief of Golgotha and painting). Next to side walls are the statues of the Holy Virgin and of Saint Ladislau (1040-1095, the king who finalised the Christianization of Hungary). On the pulpit is the Turul Bird, an important symbol in Hungarian mythology. On the northern wall, oposite to the porch, is the chapel with the statue of John Nepomuk (priest and Christian martyr in the second half of the 14th century). The church holds two valuable relics, namely a crucifix from the time of Mateia Corvinus (circa 1470), as well as the book of the Congregation of Mary, printed at the Franciscan Monastery of Sumuleu-Ciuc before 1731. The city developed at the beginning of the 20th century the church becomes too small, but the dream of the Catholic believers in Miercurea Ciuc to have a new church becomes true only a century later, in 2003 the magnificent Millennium Church (or the Church with Angels) being finalized.
Csíkszereda legrégebbi római katolikus temploma a Szent Kereszt-templom egyike a város XVIII. századból fennmaradt épületeinek, Románia műemléklistáján a HR-II-a-B-12735 sorszámon szerepel. A templom barokk stílusban épült 1751 és 1758 között. A Szent Kereszt felmagasztalása tiszteletére 1784-ben szentelték fel. A 19. század végén, amikor a vármegye székhelye lett Csíkszereda, gyorsabb fejlődésnek indult, így a templom a növekedő város igényeit már nem tudta ellátni. A város fejlődésének köszönhetően a 20. század elején már új templom tervét készítették el, sőt az építéshez szükséges anyagi alapot 1914-re össze is adták. A munkálatok elkezdése előtt azonban kitört az első világháború, és minden elveszett. 2001-ben teljesedett be a csíkszeredai katolikus közösség régi vágya, mely egy nagyobb formátumú templom építése volt. 2003-ban, Makovecz Imre tervei alapján elkészült az új templom épülete, közismert nevén a Millenniumi-templom.

20 September 2012 - I'm the only one atop St. Michael's Hill in the village of Cisnadioara, which is a pleasant walk through a winding country road from Cisnadie, which is a bus ride away from Sibiu. The hill is the site of a fortified church that dates back to the 13th century.

Turneul naţional „Orgile României” – ediţia I
Prima ediție a turneului naţional „Orgile României” a fost o incursiune sonoră şi vizuală în lumea acestui instrument, aşa cum poate fi el descoperit în România, trecând prin 7 oraşe și aducând în prim plan un tânăr organist român aflat la început de carieră, Vlad Vişenescu. Turneul a fost dublat de o serie de sesiuni fotografice menite a pune în valoare aspectul general şi detaliile instrumentelor aflate în bisericile în care au avut loc concertele din acest turneu, selectate pentru a reflecta diversitatea acestora ca epocă de construcţie şi sistem de funcţionare. Rezultatul acestor sesiuni foto se concretizează într-o monografie vizuală virtuală on line care este prezentată pe site-ul turneului, orgileromaniei.ro.
În bisericile din România există peste 1000 de orgi, un tezaur de tradiție culturală pe cât de bogat, pe atât de neștiut de public.
Perioada în care s-a desfăşurat turneul a fost 1-11 iulie 2019, iar traseul a ajuns la: Arad – Biserica romano-catolică „Sfântul Anton de Padova”, Cluj-Napoca – Biserica reformată centrală, Alba Iulia – Catedrala romano-catolică „Sfântul Mihail”, Mediaş – Biserica evanghelică „Sfânta Margareta”, Sighişoara – Biserica mănăstirii dominicane, Târgu Mureș – Biserica romano-catolică „Sfântul Ioan Botezătorul, Bucureşti – Catedrala „Sfântul Iosif “. Concertele au avut loc cu intrarea loiberă.
Turneul Naţional Orgile României este un proiect cultural co-finanţat de Administraţia Fondului Cultural Naţional.
“The Pipe Organs of Romania” National Tour – the 1st edition, represented a musical and visual leap into the universe of this instrument, as it can be discovered in Romania; the tournament journeyed through 7 cities and brought to the fore a rising, young Romanian organist, Vlad Vişenescu. The tour was supported by a series of photographic sessions designed to highlight the general appearance and details of the instruments in the churches where the concerts of this tournament took place, selected to reflect their diversity in terms of when these instruments were built and how they work. The result of these photo sessions is a virtual on-line monograph that can be accessed on the tournament website, orgileromaniei.ro.
Across Romania there are over 1000 church organs, a treasure of cultural tradition that is at the same time extremely rich and very poorly known to the general audience.
The tournament took place between July 1-11, 2019, and the route reached: Arad - Roman Catholic Church Saint Anthony of Padua, Cluj-Napoca - Central Reformed Church, Alba Iulia - Catholic Cathedral Saint Mihail , Mediaş - St. Margaret Evangelical Church, Sighişoara – the Church of the Dominican Monastery, Târgu Mureş – the Roman Catholic Church Saint John the Baptist , Bucharest - St. Joseph Cathedral.
