Saint-Malo is a coastal city in Brittany, in France's northwest. Tall granite walls surround the old town, which was once a stronghold for privateers (pirates approved by the king). The Saint-Malo Cathedral, in the center of the old town, is built in Romanesque and Gothic styles and features stained-glass windows depicting city history. Nearby is La Demeure de Corsaire, an 18th-century privateer’s house and museum.
Saint-Malo has a terminal for ferry services with daily departures to Portsmouth operated by Brittany Ferries and services on most days Poole and Weymouth in England via the Channel Islands operated by Condor Ferries. It also has a railway station, Gare de Saint-Malo, offering direct TGV service to Rennes, Paris and several regional destinations. There is a bus service provided by Keolis. The town is served by the Dinard–Pleurtuit–Saint-Malo Airport around 5 kilometres (3 miles) to the south.
Now inseparably attached to the mainland, Saint-Malo is the most visited place in Brittany. Sites of interest include:

The Solidor Tower in Saint-Servan is a 14th-century building that holds a collection tracing the history of voyages around Cape Horn. Many scale models, nautical instruments and objects made by the sailors during their crossing or brought back from foreign ports invoke thoughts of travel aboard extraordinary tall ships at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.

Saint-Malo Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church located in Saint-Malo, Brittany. The church was founded in dedication to Saint Vincent of Saragossa, and constitutes a national monument of France. It was built in a mix of Roman and Gothic styles during the episcopacy of Jean de Châtillon (1146-1163) on the site of an ancient church founded in the 7th-century. The cathedral suffered damage during WW2 when the steeple toppled onto the Sacred Heart Chapel. An organ which had been built in 1893 by Louis Debierre was destroyed. On 21 May 1972, after twenty-eight years of work, a ceremony was held to celebrate the completion of the restoration.
Historical records of the rocky outcrop on which Saint-Malo stands show that a hermit called Aaron d'Aleth founded a hermitage there towards the middle of the 6th-century. A Welsh monk called Maclow or Mac Law or Malo arrived to the rock and joined Aaron. Malo devoted himself to preaching and in due course became Bishop of Aleth (Saint-Servan) He was succeeded by Saint Gurval who had a church built in honour of his predecessor. This church, burnt by Charlemagne's lieutenants in 811, was rebuilt in 816 by bishop Hélocar and was given the name of the deacon saint Vincent d'Espagne who had been martyred in 304 by Diocletian. In the middle of the 9th-century, the Breton king Nominoë nominated Aleth as the location of the episcopacy and called it Pagus Alethensis.
Several elements of de Châtillon's 12th-century building remain today including part of the cloisters, the nave and the transept crossing. The choir was constructed in the 13th-century and the construction of the tower started in the 12th-century, and was finished in 1422. The south side of the cathedral and the three chapels in the choir area date to the 15th-century. Between 1583 and 1607 the north side of the cathedral was reconstructed and the north transept enlarged. In the 18th-century the south chapel was built and the façade of the cathedral was reconstructed between 1772 and 1773. A door, previously kept in the courtyard of the Hôtel-Dieu in the rue Saint-Sauveur, was brought to the cathedral in the early 17th-century and a portal from the Chapelle Sainte-Anne-des-Ursulines was placed in the south-west of the cathedral.
The layout of the cathedral follows that of the Latin cross. The vaulting of the choir and the south aisle is ogival (gothic), the vaulting for the north aisle is groin vaulting and the ceiling of the south chapel is decked with modern paneling. Overlooking the ambulatory is a stone 12th-century sarcophagus containing the relics of Jean de Châtillon, the first bishop of Saint-Malo.
At the base of the chevet is a chest containing the relics of a 2nd-century martyr Saint Célestin, given by the pope Pie VII to Saint-Malo's last bishop Monseigneur Courtois de Pressigny. In 1422 rebuilding of the tower was started using the foundations of the earlier tower. In August 1858 Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie were passing through Saint-Malo and were persuaded by Abbé Jean-François Huchet to finance the addition of an arrow to the tower spire which would be visible from the sea. There is a statue of Abbé Jean-François Huchet in the cathedral by Jean-Marie Valentin.

Les cloches de la cathédrale de Saint-Malo bonnes pour le service.
L’ensemble campanaire de la cathédrale de Saint-Malo a fait l’objet d’une revue de détail avant son inauguration officielle prévue le 9 novembre.
Ce jeudi 24 octobre les 4 cloches livrées récemment par la Fonderie de Cloches Cornille Havard : Malo (si-bémol ♪), Jacques Cartier (do ♪), Jean de la Grille (mi-bémol ♪) et Notre-Dame de la Grand Porte (fa ♪) ainsi que Noguette ont été inspectées avec minutie et attention par Hervé Gouriou du ministère de la Culture, un des deux spécialistes campanaires en France.
Il s’agissait d’évaluer l’installation de l’ensemble campanaire et de vérifier notamment que les cloches sonnaient correctement.
Les 5 cloches ont passé ce contrôle technique avec succès !

La cathédrale Saint-Vincent-de-Saragosse de Saint-Malo est une ancienne cathédrale catholique romaine dédiée à saint Vincent de Saragosse, situé à Saint-Malo en Ille-et-Vilaine. Son architecture mélange les styles roman et gothique, et elle est classée monument historique de France.
Elle a été le siège de l'ancien évêché de Saint-Malo depuis 1146. Ce dernier fut supprimé par le concordat de 1801, et son territoire réparti entre les diocèses de Rennes, de Saint-Brieuc et de Vannes.

Walking through the cobbled streets of St Malo’s old town feels like you’ve stepped back in time. This popular tourist destination and busy ferry port offers visitors an authentic glimpse into Brittany’s important seafaring past. Once the feared base of pirates (corsairs), heavily fortified against Norman (or English) attack, today's Saint-Malo is one of the top tourist draws in Brittany. The star of the show is the atmospheric walled city (intramuros), largely destroyed in the Second World War but painstakingly reconstructed. The modern towns of Parame and Saint-Servan lie outside the walls. It is also the birth place of renowned French explorer Jacques Cartier who is famous for exploring Quebec.
Saint-Malo has a good bus system, with the main terminals located at the train station and just outside the walls(St Vincent). Get a booklet with maps and times from any bus driver. A one and a half hour ticket costs €1.15. Unfortunately there are no bus services late in the evening. The walled city is easily covered on foot, but you can also opt for a dinky Tourist Train that takes you and your wallet for a ride (€5.50).

We went to Estes Park to enjoy the last 3 days of summer vacation with the whole family. We're back in Denver now and just relaxing. I can't believe school starts tomorrow for the kids. summer is almost over. i can feel the weather changing already. fall is here soon!
I want to share this quick stop we did before we went to Estes Park Colorado. This beautiful church is called chapel on the rocks. its open to public from 10am to 4pm. Amazing heritage! I want to share this video we filmed.

Saint-Malo during the Middle Ages was a fortified island at the mouth of the Rance River, controlling not only the estuary but the open sea beyond. The promontory fort of Aleth, south of the modern centre in what is now the Saint-Servan district, commanded approaches to the Rance even before the Romans, but modern Saint-Malo traces its origins to a monastic settlement founded by Saint Aaron and Saint Brendan early in the sixth century. Its name is derived from a man said to have been a follower of Brendan, Saint Malo or Maclou.
Saint-Malo is the setting of Marie de France's poem Laustic, an 11th-century love story. The city had a tradition of asserting its autonomy in dealings with the French authorities and even with the local Breton authorities. From 1590 to 1593, Saint-Malo declared itself to be an independent republic, taking the motto not French, not Breton, but Malouin.[1]
Saint-Malo became notorious as the home of the corsairs, French privateers and sometimes pirates. In the 19th century, this piratical notoriety was portrayed in Jean Richepin's play Le flibustier and in César Cui's eponymous opera. The corsairs of Saint-Malo not only forced English ships passing up the Channel to pay tribute, but also brought wealth from further afield. Jacques Cartier, who sailed the Saint Lawrence River and visited the sites of Quebec City and Montreal, and is thus credited as the discoverer of Canada, lived in and sailed from Saint-Malo, as did the first colonists to settle the Falkland Islands, hence the Islands' French name Îles Malouines, which eventually gave rise to the Spanish name Islas Malvinas. In 1758, the Raid on St Malo saw a British expedition land intending to capture the town. However, the British made no attempt on Saint-Malo, and instead occupied the nearby town of Saint-Servan, where they destroyed 30 privateers before departing.
In World War II, during fighting in late August and early September 1944, the historic walled city of Saint-Malo was almost totally destroyed by American shelling and bombing as well as British naval gunfire.[2][3] Saint-Malo was rebuilt over a 12-year period from 1948-1960.
The commune of Saint-Servan was merged, together with Paramé, and became the commune of Saint-Malo in 1967.
Saint-Malo was the site of an Anglo-French summit in 1998 that led to a significant agreement regarding European defence policy.

My first time visiting this old town and I'm totally amaze with it. I hope you guys will enjoy this video as I've enjoyed the short visit of the old town of St. Malo in france.

St-Malo was founded in the 1st century BC a short distance south of its current location. The fort at Aleth, in what is now St-Servan, was built by Celtic tribesmen to guard the entrance to the Rance River.
The Romans further fortified this site and it was here in the 6th century that the Irish monks, Brendan and Aaron, established a monastery. At around the same time, the rocky island to the north was named after the sainted celtic bishop Maclou (or MacLow).
Modern Era
The 20th century saw disaster overtake St-Malo, when the city was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. In late 1944 General Patton's US 3rd Army, advancing into western France, laid siege to the town and it was only through a large scale bombardment that the last stubborn German defenders were dislodged.
Population of St.-Malo is near 50K only and becomes 200K during summer tourist season.
