Paris : la «Samaritaine 2020» se dévoile avant son ouverture en avril prochain
Fermé depuis 2005, le mythique grand magasin de la Samaritaine (1er) va rouvrir ses portes en avril 2020, intégrant en outre un hôtel de luxe, des bureaux et des logements. Cinq mois avant son ouverture, le nouvel écrin de la Rive Droite se dévoile.
Situé entre le quai du Pont Neuf et la rue de Rivoli, cet ensemble «art déco» et «art nouveau» de plus de 70.000 m2 – qui abritait autrefois le plus important grand magasin parisien – a été entièrement rénové, voire reconstruit à certains endroits.
Acquis en 2010 par LVMH et en travaux depuis juin 2015, l'ensemble des bâtiments de La Samaritaine ont ainsi été repensés pour accueillir un grand magasin de 20.000 m2, un prestigieux hôtel du groupe Cheval Blanc, ainsi que 15.000 m2 de bureaux, 96 logements sociaux et une crèche de 80 berceaux.

Au coeur des grands magasins la Samaritaine créés par Ernest Cognacq et Marie-Louise Jaÿ, le magasin 2 a été le centre d'une fabuleuse aventure commerciale. Les architectes Frantz Jourdain et Henri Sauvage y unirent le verre et l'acier. Ils créèrent des façades exubérantes et polychromes.La Samaritaine devrait connaître fin 2018 une nouvelle mutation au sein du groupe LVMH.

Voici notre petit film consacré au renouveau du quartier Samaritaine. En effet, à l'issue du chantier, ce seront l'ensemble du quartier et ses usagers qui bénéficieront de trottoirs élargis, de pistes cyclables... mais surtout d'une nouvelle place-jardin face au Pont-Neuf. Bonne découverte !

Toute l'actualité sur La Samaritaine, le grand magasin parisien de la rue de Rivoli, est fermé depuis 2005 pour cause de rénovation. Après trois immeubles démolis, le quatrième devrait également disparaître pour céder sa place à un nouvel espace commercial conçu par le groupe de luxe LVMH. Cependant, les bâtiments datent de l'époque haussmannienne et certaines associations de défense du patrimoine parisien compte bien sauver ces murs de plus d'un siècle et demi.

Après plus de quatre ans de travaux, le célèbre hôtel Lutetia rouvre ses portes cette semaine. Grâce à sa cure de jouvence, l'établissement espère obtenir la mention Palace qui distingue les hôtels d'exception. Paris est déjà la ville qui compte le plus de ces établissements de grand luxe au monde. Ils seront au nombre de 14 d'ici deux ou trois ans, avec l'ouverture prochaine du Cheval Blanc au sein de l'ancienne Samaritaine.

Le musée Cognacq Jay - Quartier du Marais - Paris - France
Au coeur du Marais, dans un bel hôtel classé monument historique (XVIe-XVIIIe siècles), l'hôtel Donon, le musée présente les collections d’art réunies par Ernest Cognacq, fondateur des magasins de la Samaritaine, et sa femme Marie-Louise Jay, léguées à la Ville de Paris en 1928. À l’exception notable d’un important tableau de jeunesse de Rembrandt, l’essentiel des œuvres présentées date du XVIIIe siècle : peintures de Canaletto, Tiepolo, Boucher, Fragonard, Greuze, Reynolds, Nattier, Chardin... pastels de La Tour et Perronneau ; sculptures de Houdon, Lemoyne, Clodion ; porcelaines de Saxe, de Sèvres ; objets d’orfèvrerie ; meubles estampillés…
ERnest Cognacq avait installé toutes ces œuvres dans un bâtiment proche de ses magasins de sorte que ses employés pouvaient aller les voir à l'heure du déjeuner ou le soir. Il souhaitait ainsi leur donner accès à la culture.

I get the feeling that the board of directors, since it has taken on the Samaritaine, in 2001, has been lying to us. They have lied to us for many reasons. They have lied to us on economic strategy. We have lost, since the arrival of LVMH, more than 40 percent of our turnover, how could we hope to get back on track under those conditions? By closing down (the store).

At the very beginning of the closing down of the Samaritaine, there was a negative report from a security commission which issued a statement on the store's continued activity. The danger it is that, in the case of a major incident, people could not be evacuated in a reasonably short time and that this would result in a major disaster.

You can find basically anything here and it is, kind of, like a neighbourhood shop which has been here for such a long time that you, well I had developed a habit of shopping here.

La Samaritaine, the oldest department store in Paris, has been forced to shut its doors for at least four years while it undergoes renovations after authorities declared the store dangerous for shoppers.
The 133-year-old building, blending Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, is a historic monument and a mecca for tourists eager to take in its breathtaking views - but it's also a fire hazard.
Store managers said in an announcement on Friday that the building's metal structure isn't up to scratch when it comes to fire-resistance standards, and workers will need to upgrade ventilation systems that prevent smoke from being evacuated to other parts of the building.
The building remains an architectural marvel, featuring green and white cast iron railings that climb the structure and lead upward to a glass roof and viewing deck that offers stunning vistas of Paris.
A former travelling salesman, Theodore-Ernest Cognacq, opened La Samaritaine with his wife, Marie-Louise Jay, next to the city's oldest bridge, the Pont Neuf, in 1872.
The store owes its name to a centuries-old hydraulic pump on the bridge depicting the good Samaritan speaking to Jesus on a gilded iron plaque.
Business boomed as department stores began a shopping revolution in Paris, and La Samaritaine expanded to four buildings, with the main art Deco site overlooking the Seine River.
By the 1990s, the company, handed down through the Cognacq-Jay family, was in financial trouble. The family sold one of the stores on the Rue de Rivoli shopping thoroughfare to retailer Etam.
French luxury goods and retailing group LVMH took over as main shareholder in 2001 and transformed the central store with an eye to giving it a younger image.
But the decrepit store has been losing business for years, although some visitors said it is quiet haven compared to other, more-bustling department stores in the area.
Local residents say the habit of shopping there will be difficult to break.
