Hiking Humphreys Peak in Flagstaff - Arizona's Highest Point

Humphreys peak is the highest peak in the state of Arizona and the 12th highest point in the United States standing at an elevation of 12, 633 feet (3851m). It is the highest dormant volcano of the San Francisco peaks.

Flagstaff is a city in the U.S. state of Arizona, surrounded by mountains, desert and ponderosa pine forests. It’s a gateway to the San Francisco Peaks, home to Arizona’s tallest mountain (Humphreys Peak) and the Arizona Snowbowl ski resort. Nearby, Wupatki National Monument has Native American pueblo sites, and Walnut Canyon National Monument is dotted with their cliff dwellings.

Humphreys Peak Ceremonial Hike - November 11, 2014 - San Francisco Peaks - Arizona
On November 11, 2014, Greg and Angie Widner set out to do a ceremonial offering on the peak of Arizona's highest mountain (12,633 ft) with the goal to be on the summit at 11:11am MST for the blessing. They false-summited at that time and then reached the actual summit around 1:11pm MST allowing Angie to complete the ceremonial offering at 11:11 Alaska time zone!. The offering included Giza crystals, crystals blessed in Bimini, crystals found near Hot Springs, AZ and Peruvian tobacco, Hopi corn and sacred soils from several locations; these were all buried with a blessing ceremony conducted by Angie at the summit in 30-50mph winds.
This is a strenuous 8.25 mile round trip 3,300 ft elevation gain hike that offers spectacular views over the Colorado Plateau, Mogollon Rim and even the Grand Canyon in the distance.

Fall Color: Lockett Meadow & Inner Basin, San Francisco Peaks
Hiking from Lockett Meadow, up Inner Valley, to Inner Basin in the San Francisco Peaks. Fall color was not yet quite at peak on October 4. The only fall color I saw was on quaking aspen: I did not see any oak, maple, elm, etc. at all, let alone with fall color. Just shades of yellow, ranging from key lime, to chiffon, to cheddar. Inner Basin is the caldera of an acient stratovolcano. Blog, links & music:

Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument - Hitting Most of the Hikes!
Sunset Crater National Monument is a cinder cone located just north of Flagstaff, Arizona The crater is within the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument which protects a string of volcanoes - the San Francisco volcanic field - that is related to the nearby San Francisco Peaks (wikipedia).
On one day in the fall of 2018, I traveled to this park along with visits to Waupatki and Walnut Canyon - all of which have videos on this channel - see the end screen at the conclusion of this video.

Humphreys Peak is the highest natural point in the U.S. state of Arizona, with an elevation of 12,637 feet and is located within the Kachina Peaks, 11 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona. Humphreys Peak is the highest of a group of extinct volcanic peaks known as the San Francisco Peaks. The summit can be most easily reached by hiking the 4.8 miles long Humphreys Trail that begins at the Arizona Snowbowl ski resort in the Coconino National Forest. Humphreys Peak is a 9.5 mile out and back trail. The Peak is the highest natural point in Arizona and the highest point of the San Francisco Peaks north of Flagstaff in north-central Arizona.
The trails were totally lost under the white carpets and we had to return half way!
