San Jacinto Monument - La Porte, TX
After the defeat of the Alamo, Santa Anna’s Mexican Army retreated East and was chased into a corner by General Sam Houston’s army. The battle was quick as the Texan’s screamed: “Remember the Alamo”. Santa Anna was captured and forced to sign over Texas as an independent republic. Today there’s a museum, clean restrooms, an elevator ride up to the observation deck, and a cool video that starts every hour. There are plenty of open fields, playgrounds, and picnic areas. There’s even a WWI Battleship to explore nearby.
Be aware there is a fee to take the elevator up to the observation deck. Also, the monument is very susceptible to loud noises. If you are sensitive, we recommend taking precautions.

San Jacinto Monument, Battleship Texas, and Downtown Houston Drive Through
Houston is the fourth largest city (in terms of population) in the United States, and there is plenty to explore. There is so much to see that I will need to make many trips in the future to see everything. On this trip, I head down to the San Jacinto Monument and to Battleship Texas. I check out both although it was hard to see the top of the monument due to the low clouds and fog. The monument is a dedication to the Battle of San Jacinto back on April 21, 1836 which the outnumbered Texian Army led by General Sam Houston defeated the Mexican army and forced then-Mexican president Santa Anna to sign an independence treaty which led to the creation of the Republic of Texas. However, Texas would be later admitted to the United States in 1845. After visiting both places, I take a drive through downtown Houston.

In this video we take you through a narrated tour of the San Jacinto Battleground monument outside of Houston Texas. Battleship Texas took part in some of the most significant naval battles of the 20th century during both world wars. Now docked along the Houston Ship Channel, she serves as a memorial to those turbulent times. Gamers who have played Call of Duty: WWII will also be familiar with this historic battleship.

The San Jacinto Museum of History is housed in the base of the San Jacinto Monument. The Museum is operated by the San Jacinto Museum of History Association — a non-profit organization — in association with the Texas State Parks and Wildlife Commission.
More than just a gateway to a great view, the Museum is your gateway to Texas culture! It was established not only to honor those who fought here in 1836, but also to re-visualize the history of Texas and the Spanish Southwest. It was created as a steward of history, and to promote friendship between Texas, Mexico, Spain, France and Latin America.
Special treasures can be found from Mexican Texas, the Texas revolution, and the Republic of Texas. But the museum also holds art and artifacts from the Spanish conquest, French Texas (a small collection), Spanish colonial life, the Mexican Revolution and the Anglo colonization of Mexican Texas. Texas’s early statehood and the Civil War are also featured.
