Meet the CHRIST of San Juan del Sur
A trip to Nicaragua is incomplete without some days in the coastal town of San Juan del Sur in Rivas for some sun, surf and party or relaxation, depending on your taste. Here we stay in a great villa over-looking the countryside, drive up to the Christ statue/landmark and have a taste of the first locally brewed craft beer from here.
SJDS has a lot in store for all and we will have another episode coming up to round up our stint there.

Couldn't Leave a TREEHOUSE in San Juan del Sur
We were in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua staying in a resort nestled amongst hills and trees. We simply wanted to stay for a long while as the atmosphere is pure relaxation and get-away-from-it-all. Their pools and luxurious rooms also contributed a lot to the feeling.
In this episode we saw gorgeous sunsets atop tree platforms, slipped and slid and jumped off platforms into pools and took a quick trip to town to gather supplies.

BATTERED and Bruised in San Juan del Sur
We were still in the tourist destination of San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua and we stayed in a boutique hotel close to arguably the most popular surf beach in the country: Playa Maderas. Eric tried his had swimming alongside the surfers and got injured in the process.
We also showed a bit of nightlife where we had our fill of sumptuous tacos accompanied by vibrant live music. We visited the town too briefly to do some shopping.

SUNSET GOLFING in San Juan del Sur
The couple of days in this episode were spent indoors rightfully chilling within the beautiful eco hotel we're in and making it out to a couple of popular surf beaches nearby to scope the scene.
We also tried our hand at putting (for the 1st time) on a mini-golf course overlooking Maderas Beach in San Juan del Sur while a glorious sunset was on its way.

Halloween in San Juan del Sur 2019
Halloween has been celebrated in San Juan del Sur for quite a few years now. Originally, organized by the local free Library that is run by a wonderful women form the US named Mary, who receive support from Mara and the rotary club. It was set up as a hybrid of a parade with stops at loca businesses who were willing to participate and give kids candy. After many years, the hybrid Halloween celebration we had come to know and love seems to have transitioned into a less organized event and kids are no longer asked to stay in particular routes.
This year, 2019, Halloween was organized for the first time by the San Juan del Sur Day School PTO. kids roamed free from business to business in costumes and collected candy. For the first time, the town seemed to be less tense about the holiday, adopting it for the sake of the kids. Everyone had a great time watching all the little ones and adults alike dressed up in funny or scary costumes. The festivities ended in a party /haunted house set up in Crazy Crab (by the estuary) where piñatas were broken and more candy flowed.
It has been lovely to be a part of this event through the years, we have seen it grow and it now seems to have been readily adopted by the locals and expats from the around the world alike. The meaning of cultures is truly beautiful... we are so thankful to be part of such a great community!

ABOUT
I traveled solo through Central America (mainly Guatemala) for 5 months. I'd love to share how I did eating a plant-based diet while traveling in Central America. I started a vegan challenge in April 2017 and since I've been feeling happier than ever before! I decided to continue this beautiful journey. I'm so excited for what's coming and to share this with you!

One Way Wednesday!!
We have been here only 5 days of our 2 months!
We were able to stay at the Surfing Buddha, take a trip to Playa Maderas (we recommend taking the Casa Oro shuttle, its only $5 each round trip!), play beach volleyball and go to Parque Adventura to see amazing views. We've been able to do so much I can't wait for the rest of this summer!

Welcome to my vlog! We are sharing with you our trip from the U.S. to PALACAGUINA, NICARAGUA. We are moving our family to Central America to open a school. The work of our mission is to bring education to children that would not otherwise receive education. We are currently building the school and we would love your prayers and involvement if you so choose. Currently we are in Austin, Texas and preparing to sell our possessions and move our family down to Nicaragua at the end of this year. This vlog will share with you what goes on in the day of the life of such a journey. Please subscribe and follow us!
About our School:
Palacaguina Christian Academy! PCA was formed as an extension of Managua Christian Academy in Managua, Nicaragua. MCA is a school that has been meeting the needs of students in Managua since 2005. MCA is considered one of the top private schools in Managua with an excellent reputation hard earned by a dedicated and experienced staff. When Henry, the founder of MCA, was asked to expand his school into Palacaguina he was amazed (to say the least), as not many private schools are given permission to expand. Through working with the local government and because of MCA’s excellent reputation, Palacaguina Christian Academy was granted permission to open in February of 2017.
PCA is a bilingual christian school nestled in a small, green mountainside, on the NE side of Palacaguina, Nicaragua. PCA’s initial goal upon the school’s opening in February 2017 is to educate children from pre-k to kindergarten with a planned expansion, adding a grade level every year until PCA becomes a fully operating pre-school, primary school and secondary school for the students of Palacaguina. PCA will also provide space for community events, bible studies, college classes and a library that not only students will use, but will be available to the community at large as the only library in town. PCA is a community supported and needed unique school within the region because of its bilingual status and will serve as a launching point for students providing access to a bright future.
Manos Unidas de SanJuan Del Sur
Our History
Manos Unidas is a cooperative for adults with disabilities in San Juan del Sur. The program was founded by Bastin Vrancken and Brooke Rundle and currently funded by donations received through the Casa Llanta Fund. The cooperative meets on weekdays in the Mobile Library to congregate, learn and produce products.

We moved from California to Nicaragua to create our own business that gives back to the community here in Nicaragua. We've lived here for five months now and created a video to show where we have been and where we are going.
