Tsunami Surge Santa Cruz Harbor 3-11-2011 - Spectator Freaks Out!!!
This is right after an even bigger surge (~11:30am), but this one surprisingly did more damage. Sorry for the annoying lady screaming in my ear, but I guess thats maybe the most interesting part of the video (and lots of comment rage, easy there tigers). Oh my God Susie! My heart goes out to all those whose property was damaged, and even more to those who experienced the brunt of this epic force in Japan. This was the upper harbor, where the boats are mostly small liveaboards. See for more.
Santa Cruz, CA The Westside Drone Video Tour, Bryan MacKenzie, Realtor, Coldwell Banker
From Natural Bridges State Beach, to The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, you have never seen The Westside like this. Shot over 8 months to capture the best of what The Westside has to offer. Whales, surfers at Steamer Lane and Cowells. The vibrant color of the ocean with 2015's rare plankton bloom. Kite surfers and Sea Lions basking in the sun, far from shore. The Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf featuring SUP'ers, sailboats and seagulls. The Boardwalk has never looked so good, with the summer fun seaside energy, evolving as the sun sets, into the exciting electric night with all the riotous color, that can only be captured from flying above it all. A very unique perspective. All this to show off the beloved Westside of Santa Cruz. Massive Numbers of Anchovies Die in Santa Cruz Harbor
A large clean-up effort is underway as harbor employees and volunteers work feverishly to remove dead anchovies that are rapidly floating up from the bottom. The confined area of the harbor simply could not afford enough oxygen for the massive numbers of fish -- in spite of the numerous aerators being run around the clock in hopes of preventing just such an event.

Santa Cruz, CA Best 4K Drone Footage Yet! - Santa Cruz Beach & Surfers - St Patricks Day 2017
A nice, leisurely stroll along the West Cliff Beach of Santa Cruz, California, on St Patrick's Day! Shot entire in 4K using a Mavic Pro, it is an awe inspiring bit of video to bring you the joy of life. Watch as surfers do their thing, dogs playing on the beach, and everyone just enjoying a most perfect morning in Santa Cruz. Music is Cloud Launching by Little Glass Men at freemusicarchive.org .
For those of you who do not yet have a drone, or don't know much about flying one, you probably don't appreciate how difficult this is to shoot, and the risks of losing your drone over open sea water. The opening shot is a continuous take, pulling back, flying blind. As you can see, I almost hit those trees, and it's quite dramatic, because that could have ended the scene. But it goes on, and I got a shot of all of those surfers--3 waves at once!

Thousands of birds at Seabright Beach, Santa Cruz, CA
(video by Diane Rejman) Listen with volume up! What looks like a big oil slick is really thousands of birds!! With a massive amount of anchovies (dead ones....) in the Santa Cruz Harbor, it is quite the feeding ground for birds. I could hear the birds from my apartment, but all of a sudden they got SO LOUD.
You'll see some dolphins pop up later in it.
The birds are here in such numbers because of the millions of anchovies (mostly dead) in the Santa Cruz Harbor.
(This video is shot from three views - first from a distance, then from the west jetty.)

4K Skyline-to-the-sea Backpacking, Santa Cruz Mountains, California
Backpacking the Santa Cruz mountains. My GPS put this trail at around 35 miles plus. We had a few detours because of closed trails, but this still ended up being many more miles than what I had read online. If you are looking for seclusion this is not the trail for you. You do spend a good portion of the first two days hiking next to country roads and traffic noise. When you get down into Big Basin you finally get away from that. But I would not call this backcountry or secluded. We did this in three days and two nights.
