Roswell Museum | Camping in Santa Fe National Forest January (Negative 10 Degrees)
#Day 6. No mountains in this episode. After landing in Roswell we did the typical touristy thing and visited the museum. Post museum we headed north to Santa Fe and camped in the national forest. Our first cold night at least we thought it was cold at this point.

SUMMARY
=======
The Santa Fe National Forest is a protected national forest in northern New Mexico in the Southwestern United States. It was established in 1915 and covers 1,558,452 acres (6,306.83 km2). Elevations range from 5,300 feet (1600 m) to 13,103 feet (4000 m) at the summit of Truchas Peak, located within the Pecos Wilderness. The Jemez, Coyote, and Cuba districts are located in the Jemez Mountains; the Pecos/Las Vegas district is located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains; and the Española district is located in both mountain ranges. In descending order of land area the forest lies in parts of Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Mora, and Los Alamos counties. Forest headquarters are located in the city of Santa Fe.
Santa Fe National Forest was established on July 1, 1915 by the U.S. Forest Service with the amalgamation of Jemez National Forest to the west of Santa Fe and Pecos National Forest to the east.
The former division is remembered in the ranger districts, with the Jemez Ranger District to the west and the Pecos/Las Vegas district to the east. The western district is adjacent to the Valles Caldera National Preserve, which is administered by the National Park Service.
Bandelier National Monument was created from a portion of Santa Fe in 1916, but additional land was added to Bandelier from land that was formerly part of Los Alamos National Laboratory and from land that was owned by the Dunnigans when they owned the Baca Ranch.

A Walk Down Beautiful Santa Fe River Park in Autumn, Santa Fe, NM
The Santa Fe River Park and Trail follows the river almost ten miles from Patrick Smith Park to the new Camino Real Park at the river’s intersection with NM 599. Both the parkway and trail are under construction in various reaches along the river. When completed, the trail will be one of three primary urban trail spines along with the Rail Trail and Arroyo Chamisa Trail serving the Santa Fe area. The parkway will provide open space corridors, trails for walking and biking, and a series of parks, as well as a way for bicycle commuters to get to and from downtown safely. Below are listed some the current projects happening along the river.
El Parque del Rio is a linear park that follows the Santa Fe River as it flows through downtown Santa Fe. A major amenity and historic site within the city, the river park was beset with a series of long-term problems. Progressive down-cutting of the river channel has affected the health and viability of many of the old cottonwoods and other trees along the park. Storm water that had for decades helped support the river environment is now piped and fed directly into the river, increasing erosion and contributing roadway pollutants. The City of Santa Fe is exploring new ways to handle its storm water runoff and has hired Surrounding Studio to help implement new methods.
Other park improvements and irrigation upgrades will take place at Louis Montano Park (near the Boys and Girls Club); West De Vargas Park at Guadalupe Street; and on the north side of the Santa Fe River along Alameda between Galisteo Street and East Palace Avenue. Construction of the storm water management features, along with other Parque del Rio improvements, will commence in the summer of 2011.

These Huge Wooden Structures Are Baffling Forest Officials In Santa Fe National Forest
These huge wooden structures are baffling forest officials in Santa Fe National forest. We take a look at these huge wooden structures in Santa Fe national forest.
Often times in countries that have a beautiful countryside or an incredible scenic and historically important area of wildlife, efforts will be made by the government to preserve this beautiful slice of nature in the hopes of allowing the public at large to enjoy its unaging beauty for centuries to come. They do this by establishing federally protected locations that prevent further developments of any kind that could damage the protected area known as a national park or wildlife preserve.
There seems to be a large amount of mysteries surrounding national parks. An almost disproportionate amount given any other area it is compared to regarding visiting populations of any kind.
