The Santa Paula Canyon Trail to the Punch Bowls of Los Padres National Forest is one of the best hikes in Southern California. It features beautiful swimming holes, cliff jumping, a huge natural water slide and even rope swings! It's a 10 mile round trip hike to the furthest punch bowl with the slide. The area recently reopened after the devastating Thomas fire, so take extra precautions hiking through recent burn areas and keep an eye out for dead falls, rock/mud slides and potholes. Stay safe and pack out your garbage.

A Simple California Sunday / Santa Paula Punch Bowls
Back from Hawai'i but who said California can't be just as fun. After a long night at a rave, randy was able to get up in the morning and gather us all up to go on one of the best hikes in Southern California. Great times, can't wait to go back.

Hiking to The Punch Bowls in Santa Paula
We hiked up to the first of The Punch Bowls off the Santa Paula Canyon Trail in the Los Padres National Forest. Though I didn't capture a lot of video footage as we made our way up the 3 1/2 or so mile trail, this gives a feel for what the waterfall looks like in June. More details on this hike at

Punchbowl-Santa Paula Canyon
The Punchbowl is full of people and trash on this end of the summer weekend in 2018. This spot is popular with both locals and folks from far away. Santa Paula Creek is one of our rare perennial creeks in Ventura County that flows in wet times and dry. Big Cone campground is just above this area. The walk here from St. Thomas Aquinas College is only about 3.2 miles, but 2017's Thomas Fire has made the trail a bit more challenging than in year's past.
I filmed this on September 15, 2018.

Santa Paula Punch Bowls - Natural Water Slide and Cliff Jumping
This is a short edit of our recent adventure hike out to the Santa Paula Punch Bowls. There's 3 swimming holes named the Punch Bowls and each one has its own unique feature. The first one is the easiest to get to and is the most popular, family friendly spot. The second one is a nice clear pool in a slot canyon with sick jumps. And the third, which is the hardest to get to, features a sweet natural water slide. The area has recently re-opened after the devastating Thomas fire from last winter. Full vlog here:

Punch Bowls Hike AFTER IT RAINED ALL WEEK!
A day hike to the Santa Paula Punch Bowls in California after it rained all week! Despite the popularity of Santa Paula Canyon, sections of the trail are hard to follow, so pay closes attention to the direction. It was really hard to get back to the first punch bowl due to all the rain we had in a week.
Framed by tall, rugged ridges in the Topatopa Mountains, Santa Paula Creek slices through the rockbed of Santa Paula Canyon, carving out alluring pools and cascades called the Punchbowl (or Punch Bowls). Finishing with a flourish, the Punchbowl has a 25-foot waterfall and a pool that you can relax beside.
The Punchbowl is located between Big Cone Camp and Cross Camp, two Los Padres National Forest Campgrounds on the East Fork of Santa Paula Canyon. Take an 8-mile round trip hike from Route 150 in Santa Paula up Santa Paula Canyon Trail to Big Cone Camp and the Punchbowl. Eight hundred vertical feet separate the high and low points of this hike, but several undulations in the trail demand extra effort.

▶︎ Local easy hike to great waterfalls
This is a fairly easy hike through what would not be considered a typical hike. It starts off going through Thomas Aquinas College, winding through horse property and oil fields, before finally opening up into Santa Paula Canyon. The trail has changed many times over the years because of the nature of flooding through the canyon, but follow the signs through the middle of the canyon and the main trail will head up the mountain to the right.
Atop the hill on the saddle, nestled among the trees is the primitive Big Cone campsite. It is one of my favorite spots simply because it is close and when my kids were young it was a fairly easy hike to get to, and there's a nice reward when you get there.
From Big Cone Camp you can easily reach the waterfalls and pools that make this area known as the punch bowls. Depending on weather and water conditions there are some nice water rock slides, and a few pools you can jump from the cliffs into.
Please pack out your trash. Because this hike is local and easy, there are many party people that frequent the area and leave their trash.

Welcome to one of the most elegant and interesting historic mansions in Santa Paula. The Duval home was created in 1925 to fulfill the needs of this Senator and founder of the Saticoy Country Club for entertaining and relaxing. State-of-the-art work was commissioned for both elegance and quality; this was California's first earthquake proof home. Leaded glass front door is original. Large windows with elegant treatments and many extras including a dumb waiter assure a unique and comfortable life. The large lot is professionally landscaped and includes a gazebo and koi pond, orchids and roses, and fruit trees. Santa Paula's rich history comes to life on this hillside and inside the home. Nearby is the historic railway station as seen on television and in many films. Historic Main Street is home to many car shows and the Union Oil Museum. Nearby is the Ventura County Museum which spotlights local agriculture and industry, and the famous private Santa Paula Airport.
