Japan Travel: Learning and Drinking at the Sapporo Beer Museum, Hokkaido 24 Moopon
Many Japanese have loved beer from when it was introduced to Japan from Germany in the beginning of the Meiji Period. One of the first and most popular beers in Japan, Sapporo Beer was founded in Hokkaido. Being of one the oldest of Japan’s beer, the opening of this brewery dates back to 1876.
Visitors interested in Sapporo Beer are recommended to visit the Sapporo Beer Museum. The museum itself is a former brewery from the Meiji Period. In addition to historical information of beer, visitors can view displays concerning the process of making beer. In addition to learning of beer, visitors can sample various Sapporo Beers for a nominal fee. There is also beer flavored ice cream sold on the premises.
Visitors will the Sapporo Biergarten next to the museum. This red-bricked, old fashioned building houses two restaurants. At the Genhis Khan hall, visitors can enjoy an all you can eat mutton bbq with all you can drink Sapporo Beer meal. The Garden Grill offers diners lamb or crab which can be prepared however the diner chooses. Also the Sapporo Five Star Beer, a premium beer, is available.

Closed: Mondays (or following day if Monday is a national holiday) as well as during the New Year holidays and a few other irregular closing days

*Via “Loop 88 Factory Line” bus (the bus can be accessed from multiple locations in Sapporo). There is a bus every 20 minutes and it is 210 yen per ride.

My Walk to School in Japan - Stabilized Version
This is a re-upload of my original My Walk to School in Japan, only with the stabilize effect added so the camera isn't as shakey.
This was my walk to school while studying abroad in Nagoya Japan. I would walk for a little bit to Irinaka station on the Tsumarai line, and then take the subway to Gokiso on the Sakura-dori line. And take it all the way to Kokusai center, where I would get off and walk through the unimall to get to school. This video, however, is just of my walk to Irinaka lol. Sorry it is a shaky, I was a little nervous about filming with people around.

Stinky Sushi Eating Challenge: One Year in a Bucket ★ ONLY in JAPAN
If you think day old sushi is bad, try YEAR OLD SUSHI! That's exactly what Funazushi is, a local delicacy still made in the traditional way, the recipe dating back over 1000 years. With Japanese, it's notoriously sour, totally evil tasting and the smell ... ? Well, that's what I'm here to find out. In this episode, I will try to conquer my fears and eat some very old fermented sushi to see if this famous food lives up to its reputation as being Japan's grossest.
Funazushi is part of the Narezushi category of sushi, the other category being Hayazushi.
Let me explain. Hayazushi is the sushi we know today, a piece of raw fish on top of vinegar rice with a little wasabi. Hayazushi only came about in the early 1800s. Narezushi is the original sushi with origins going back a millennium. It's fermented in rice for a year, compressed with a heavy stone so that all air is kept out. Shiga prefecture's Funazushi is made in the original method used many generations ago which means ー this is ancient food!

The Kakehashi Project is a people-to-people exchange program between Japan and North America. One of the program's main objectives is to promote mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of Japan and North America.
From December 16th to the 24th I was given the opportunity to attend the Kakehashi Project 2019. About 100 young adult Japanese Americans were chosen to participate in this program coordinated by the JACL and the Japan International Cooperation Center and supported by funding from the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The participants and I were divided into four subgroups to explore and learn more about Japanese culture from different prefectures. I was placed in group A, where we mainly spent our time in the prefectures Tokyo, Aichi and Fukui.
During the program, we experienced Japanese culture in various ways. This included attending lectures, participating in traditional Japanese activities, consuming common Japanese foods, and exploring popular tourist destinations.
To give some examples, we attended a lecture on the prefecture, Fukui. We learned about Fukui’s scenic natural environment, which includes beautiful beaches, the many different types of craftsmanship like hand-made knives, and its output of high-quality agricultural goods like Ichihomare rice.
We participated in Japanese activities like Za-zen at the Eiheiji Temple in Fukui Prefecture. Zazen is a meditative discipline that is practiced by the Zen Buddhist tradition. What a physically intense, but mentally rewarding experience this was. We also participated in a homestay, which allowed us to experience the daily life of a Japanese family. Shout out to Mr.Watanabe and his wife for being so hospitable. We had the time of our lives with them.
We ate delicious Japanese foods like shabu shabu, crab, bento boxes, sushi, curry, and etc.
We explored popular tourist destinations like the Osu Shopping District in Aichi Prefecture, Shrines throughout Aichi and Fukui, Japanese castles, and many more.
Throughout this program, I was able to learn more about my ethnic background and how I can be a bridge between America and Japan. I created so many unforgettable memories and new friendships that I hope to hold on too. Thank you JACL, JICE, and MOFA for providing us with this unforgettable and unifying experience. I hope to see all my new friends again in the near future.

[The Incredible Japanese Prison Break]
Aomori, Japan. 1936. Prisoner Yoshie Shiratori had had enough.
He was forced to confess to a murder he did not commit, falsely imprisoned in Aomori Prison, beaten and tortured every night by prison guards, and, now worse, prosecutors were seeking the death penalty. In his mind, it was time to go; but Aomori Prison wasn’t the easiest to escape.
Regardless, Yoshie Shiratori had nothing to lose, and so at 5:30 am he made his move. He knew there would be a 15 minute gap in the patrol time as he had studied the guards’ routine for months; and when the coast was clear, he pulled out a metal wire (which he had smuggled in from the bathhouse) and started to pick the lock. (This was originally the metal support ring that was wrapped around the bathing buckets inmates used to wash themselves).
His hands were stiff from the wintry cold, but after a few minutes of picking, he had success, and his cell door swung open. But he wasn’t out of the woods yet, because there were more locked doors ahead. He knew he only had a few minutes left before the guards would return, and so he wasted no time attempting to pick his way through the remaining security doors.
Now fortunately for him, he was able to make it out of the facility, but the bad news was that he was only halfway to freedom. You see, he was still well within the search perimeter, which meant at any moment the alarm could go off and he’d still be caught.
At 5:45am the guards returned, peering into his cell; and this is what they saw - Shiratori sound asleep in his futon bed. ...

One of the world’s largest tournaments for fighting game aficionados made its Asia debut late last month.
Beginning in the 1990s in the United States, Evo (or The Evolution Championship Series) opened its doors in Tokyo on Jan. 26 and 27 in Ikebukuro, and then on Jan. 28 in Akihabara. There were about 5,000 entries — with about 40 percent from abroad — in what was called Evo Japan 2018.
