On our second day in Scotland a lot of things happened: I went to get a tattoo, we went to parks to enjoy the sun, we visited the pretty Scottish National Gallery and had our first Indian food ever :D

Scottish National Gallery One Minute guide
The Scottish National Gallery is the national art gallery of Scotland. It is located on The Mound in central Edinburgh, in a neoclassical building designed by William Henry Playfair, and first opened to the public in 1859.The gallery houses the Scottish national collection of fine art, including Scottish and international art from the beginning of the Renaissance up to the start of the 20th century.

The Scottish National Gallery is situated on The Mound in the centre of Edinburgh, and is home to the national collection of western art from the early Renaissance to beginning of the twentieth century. The Scottish collection is housed in its dedicated wing, and the galleries are now launching a project to transform this space, and revolutionise not only the building, but the way that Scottish art, history and culture are presented. Artist Lachlan Goudie, who also presented BBC Scotland's series The Story of Scottish Art, describes the significant effect that visiting the galleries have had on him, and his enthusiasm for a re-presentation of the Scottish collection.

Our ambitious plans to create an internationally significant new setting for the world’s greatest collection of Scottish art have been revealed, and construction work on our exciting transformation of the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh is already underway.
This major project will completely transform the way Scottish art is shown at the Gallery. The £22m scheme will create a new suite of exhibition spaces that will be directly accessible from the adjoining Princes Street Gardens, and provide a light-filled, new home for the our unrivalled collection of Scottish art, raising its profile for visitors from all over the world.
The vision for the project, which got underway in October 2018, has been revealed in this animation.

Sir John Robert Steell, born 1804, died 1891, was a Scottish sculptor. He was born in Aberdeen on 18 September 1804, but his family moved to Edinburgh around one year after his birth. He was one of the eleven children of John Steell senior, an Edinburgh carver and guilder, and Margaret Gourlay, the daughter of William Gourlay, a Dundee shipbuilder. He died on 15 September 1891 and is buried in an unmarked grave in Edinburgh's Old Calton Cemetery.

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) is a scientific centre for the study of plants, their diversity and conservation, as well as a popular tourist attraction. Founded in 1670 as a physic garden to grow medicinal plants, today it occupies four sites across Scotland—Edinburgh, Dawyck, Logan and Benmore—each with its own specialist collection. The RBGE's living collection consists of more than 13,302 plant species, (34,422 accessions) whilst the herbarium contains in excess of 3 million preserved specimens.

Dean Village (from dene, meaning 'deep valley') is a former village immediately northwest of the city centre of Edinburgh, Scotland. Edinburgh, Scotland UK highlights can be seen in three days. On day One: Royal Mile and Castle; Day Two: New Town, National Museum of History and shopping; Day Three: to the Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith waterfront, then the National Gallery of Art and free time.
The best place to begin is a few blocks in front of Edinburgh Castle, high above the city where Edinburgh was first settled. It’s a lovely downhill walk from here along what is called the Royal Mile which is anchored at one end by the Castle and at the other end by Holyroodhouse Palace, one of the queen’s summer homes in Scotland. This route has one of the most concentrated collections of historic sights in Europe, along with attractive little shops and many tempting restaurants and pubs. Several former homes on the Royal Mile are open as museums, giving you a vivid idea of what domestic life was like four hundred years ago.
