Social innovation through lighting is to bring new glory to the Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Venice, one of the seven Great Schools in Venice, founded in the Middle Ages as a secular phenomenon of devotion and solidarity to provide social guarantees to all citizens. In the video, the architect Alberto Torsello illustrates the history of this great place for social gatherings, which began in 1308, and the renovations, completed in 2015. iGuzzini has collaborated with the architect Alberto Torsello providing technical assistance and LED technological solutions, all DALI for intelligent lighting, the artificial light is able to adapt to different configurations that space can assume and integrate with the natural light. In addition to innovative products such as Trick, Underscore, iPro and Linealuce, iGuzzini has developed special versions of the pendant Cestello.
The original building of the Scuola Grande della Misericordia was built starting from 1308 according to a grandiose project, out of scale for the city of Venice, which continued in stages without ever being completed. Around 1527 the continuation of the work was entrusted to Jacopo Sansovino, an architect of Florentine origin. Through various fortunes and misfortunes, in 1914 the building became hub of “Costantino Reyer Society” and its educational and athletic activity. In 1991 the City of Venice began the restoration of the building, which was finally finished in 2015.
360 video: Scuola Grande Della Misericordia, Venice, Italy
The Scuola vecchia della Misericordia is a former charity building in Venice, Italy, in the sestiere of Cannaregio. It is located near the north margin of the city, at the intersections of Rio della Sensa and the confluence of Rio di Noale and Rio di San Falice.
It was also known as the Scuola Grande di Santa Maria della Misericordia. It was erected in 1310 and subsequently enlarged several times; in Venice a scuola was the seat of a charity/religious institution. By the early 16th century, the old church had joined with the nearby Franciscan abbey, and the old meeting hall had been rented out. Construction of a new Scuola meeting hall, the Scuola Nuova della Misericordia was begun in 1507 across the Rio dell Sensa. However, 25 years later this was only a foundation, and new designs by Jacopo Sansovino completed the two story brick structure. This was never faced with marble or stone, and sold in 1634 to the guild of silk weavers. The Scuola Nuova has been recently restored.

Places to see in ( Venice - Italy ) Dorsoduro
Dorsoduro is Venice’s university district and the streets around the Campo Santa Margherita are filled with unpretentious eateries, indie shops and vintage fashion boutiques. After dark, informal bars draw a young local crowd. Important cultural destinations here include the Gallerie dell’Accademia, for classic Venetian masterpieces, and the waterside Peggy Guggenheim Collection, which houses modern works.
Dorsoduro is one of the six sestieri of Venice, in northern Italy.
Dorsoduro includes the highest land areas of the city and also Giudecca island and Isola Sacca Fisola. Its name derives from the Italian for hard ridge, due to its comparatively high, stable land.
The original heart of the area was the Giudecca Canal, along which buildings were constructed from the sixth century. By the eleventh century, settlement had spread across to the Grand Canal, while later religious buildings including the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute and the Zattere quay are now its main landmarks.
In the nineteenth century the Accademia was set up in Dorsoduro and the Ponte dell'Accademia linked it to San Marco, making it an expensive area, popular with foreign residents. The western quarter end and the Giudecca, became industrialised around this time.
Landmarks and visitor attractions in Dorsoduro include:
Ca' Foscari
Ca' Rezzonico

Venezia - Dorsoduro
