Sunrise, Ocean Reef, Island View Beach Sea Bright NJ 07760
This is a video of the beach at the south end of Sea Bright NJ 07760 which is open to the general public. A lack of public parking means it's used primarily by residents within walking distance, which are the residents of the Sunrise, Ocean Reef and Island View townhouse communities. The beach was recently replenished by the Army Corp of Engineers.

Hurricane Sandy stripped more than 5 million cubic yards of sand from the beaches of New Jersey, making many of them several feet lower in elevation and putting the towns behind them in peril for future storms, according to scientists studying the storm's aftermath.
Several beaches in New Jersey lost elevation because of that missing sand, which washed into Barnegat Bay, onto streets, in homes and out to sea in quantities never before seen during storms at the Jersey Shore, said Jon Miller, assistant professor at Stevens Institute of Technology.
The beaches do not have enough sand on them right now and we need to do whatever we can to build back those beaches so we can be ready for the next storm season, Miller told a group of officials from beach towns gathered at D'Jais in Belamar yesterday for the annual State of the Shore report.
Commissioned by the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium, the report provides updates on how New Jersey's 127 miles of coastline fared over the winter, when nor'easters and erosion occur somewhat frequently. This year, Miller and Stewart Farrell, director of the Coastal Research Center at Richard Stockton College, had plenty to report.

SANDY SCORECARD
New on NJ.com: An interactive tool for monitoring progress along the Jersey Shore communities hit hard by Hurricane Sandy, including FEMA aid, building permits, flood maps and the status of the beaches. Farrell said that because of the track of the storm and wind shifts, it was as if two hurricanes hit New Jersey on Oct. 29 -- the category one storm that caused widespread flooding and destruction in Monmouth and Ocean counties, and the tamer storm that caused mild erosion and power outages in Atlantic and Cape May counties.
Towns with high dunes and wide beaches sustained less damage than those without.
The lessons we've learned is that consistency in dune size elevation and width is extremely important. The width of the beach is exceedingly important because that's where the waves break first, Farrell said.
The towns that sustained the greatest loss of sand were Sea Bright and Monmouth Beach, where a total of 500,000 cubic yards of sand washed away, Miller said. That's enough to fill the football field at Giants Stadium 300 feet high with sand, he noted.
Bay Head lost about 140,000 cubic yards, he said.
The beaches may look as wide as they have been in the past, but some of them are actually lower than before Sandy, Miller said. Bay Head and areas of Monmouth Beach and Sea Bright dropped by 8 or 9 feet and Bradley Beach lost about 4 feet in elevation, he said.
Without that elevation, he and Farrell said, waves roll onshore more easily and can do more damage.
Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin stressed the need for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' beach replenishment projects. The Army Corps has allocated more than $1 billion to rebuild the entire New Jersey coastline and while some projects are estimated to start in Monmouth County in mid-June, local officials in the Ocean County towns heavily damaged by Sandy are still trying to obtain easements from oceanfront homeowners allowing the Army Corps to do the work on strips of property they would relinquish for the project.
Ninety percent of the public access points to the beaches are open and all the state's boardwalks are partially or completely open, he said. Channels are open for boating, he noted.
Martin said tests show the water quality of the ocean is excellent. The state will conduct aerial flyovers of the ocean six days a week all summer to check for debris from Sandy, Martin said.
The department is also conducting scans of the entire coastline using sonar to try to locate any large objects near the beaches. He said crews are about halfway through the work and should be completed within in the next four weeks.
The water is clean. The beaches are clean. New Jersey's open for business, Martin said. Please come to the Shore.

Sea Bright, New Jersey Reconstructed: AgentBased Protection Theory Model Responses to HurricaneSandy
Abstract: Coastal flooding is the most expensive type of natural disaster in the United States. Policy initiatives to mitigate the effects of these events are dependent upon understanding flood victim responses at an individual and municipal level. Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) is an effective tool for analyzing community-wide responses to natural disaster, but the quality of the ABM’s performance is often challenging to determine. This paper discusses the complexity of the Protective Action Decision Model (PADM) and Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) for human decision making regarding hazard mitigations. A combined (PADM/PMT) model is developed and integrated into the MASON modeling framework. The ABM implements a hind-cast of Hurricane Sandy’s damage to Sea Bright, NJ and homeowner post-flood reconstruction decisions. It is validated against damage assessments and post-storm surveys. The contribution of socio-economic factors and built environment on model performance is also addressed and suggests that mitigation for townhouse communities will be challenging.
Bio: KIM McELIGOT is a PhD candidate in the Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research at the George Mason University. His research interests include federation of computational fluid dynamics coastal flood modeling with geo-spatial agent-based modeling for individual and community level flood mitigation policy analysis. He holds an M.S. in Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and an M.A. in National Security and Military Affairs from the U.S. Naval War College.

Since we were expecting big storm to hit here, Kristine Kohler and I, took a ride to the National Guard Training Center in Sea Girt. I used to work here and it has a beach. So, we wanted to see if there were any outrageous waves!
It wasn't as bad as I was expecting and now the storm looks like its moving away.
Hope you at least enjoy the scenery..

Jersey Shore Small Town: Sea Girt, USA
Jersey Shore Small Town: Sea Girt, USA
Sea Girt is one of the many small towns at the Jersey Shore in southern Monmouth County. The beach is the central attraction of many of these tiny towns, which have independent police forces and volunteer fire departments. Sea Girt became recognized by the New Jersey state legislature as a borough in 1917, although Commodore Stockton bought a substantial part of the land starting in the mid-nineteenth century. Sea Girt became known by the slogan “Where the Cedars Meet the Sea,” although older citizens of Sea Girt lament that developers have chopped down many of these famous trees in favor of luxurious homes with a big footprint. This short film provides glimpses of the beach, the Parker House bar, the library, post office, and streets of this town. Free of clogged traffic, Sea Girt takes pride in having clean beaches free of syringes, fast-food trash, and other unpleasant aspects of twenty-first century life. But for most of its history, Sea Girt has been ruled by a single political party, so some critics believe the town could benefit from a wider range of ideas and greater diversity. In 2012, Hurricane Sandy delivered devastating damage to many Jersey Shore towns, but Sea Girt felt blessed that it largely escaped the destruction from the floods and punishing winds.

Bradley Beach New Jersey
Town profile of this beautiful Jersey Shore community. The earliest accounts of Bradley Beach can be traced back to 1679 when it is said that Captain William Kidd anchored his vessel off Duck Creek, now known as Sylvan Lake. The area was rich with pine trees and sand dunes providing a natural haven for waterfowl. It was also reported that an Indian tribe existed in the approximate area of LaReine Avenue. Captain Kidd was said to have stayed in Bradley Beach for some time, burying his treasure between two large pine trees in the area of today's Brinley Avenue. Captain Kidd never returned to claim his fortune, nor did history ever record the amount of treasure buried in Bradley Beach. Perhaps the sea itself claimed the gold pieces, or maybe the treasure never existed at all.
