Andaman Sea Diving with Turtles | First Deep Dive in Thailand 4K
I didn’t expect that I will be diving with turtles that day!
It was a standard one-day trip on a boat with professional divers. Perfect weather, good visibility and for the first time in my life I dived to a 24 meters depth! It's an amazing experience! The marine life at such depths is unusual. At the bottom there is a the submerged ship, and it’s like an artificial reef!
Diving with turtles face to face won't leave you indifferent! Pick your equipment, get onboard and have a nice trip!

Similan Islands Snorkeling | MV Oktavia
This was not the first time on MV Oktavia for Martin. Many of our guests enjoy their Similan Islands Liveaboard so much they just have to come back and join us time-and-time again!
Although unable to dive this time, that certainly wasn't going to put Martin off enjoying himself. On-board with his diving friends, Martin was ready for 5 Days & 5 Nights of great snorkelling with our amazing Team around the Similan islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai, and Richelieu Rock :-)
Martin was kind enough to share this short video he made with us - Thank you Martin!
Snorkelling on a 5 Day/5 Night Similan Islands Liveaboard
If you fancy touring the Similan Islands but you are not a diver - you’ve come to the right place! Here on MV Oktavia we look after our snorkelers just as well as our divers and offer you the best liveaboard experience possible.
While the divers go diving, snorkelers will be taken off in the dingy with their very own guide to some of the best snorkel sites in the Similan islands. Here you will find visibility in the sea up to 30 meters, which gives you the awesome impression that you are in a gigantic aquarium with Nemo and all his friends.
Indeed it is often the case that snorkelers see as much, if not more than the divers below them, with many trips that report underwater adventurers missing the reef sharks while those floating up top have seen them happily swimming about. Manta rays will often come to the surface as do turtles and huge whale sharks.
MV Oktavia is the ideal boat for couples or groups that are a mix of divers and snorkelers to visit the Similan Islands. For further information, prices, and scheduling, please visit our website: oktaviadivecenter.com.
Snorkeling Surin Island, Thailand
The Surin Islands are blessed with incredibly clear water and relatively healthy coral.
The bad news is that I didn't catch many of the larger fish on video.

Similan Islands Snorkel | Moray & Bluefin Trevally

MORAY AND BLUEFIN TREVALLY ON THE HUNT
SIMILAN ISLANDS No. 9
THREE TREES
With waters as clear as this, it easy for our snorkel guests to see all sorts of marine life no matter what the depth. Here our intrepid young snorkelers and their expert guide watch a Moray Eel hunting amongst the rocks as a number of Bluefin Trevally follow just above in hope of catching any critters that are flushed out by their stealthy friend.
This footage was filmed at Similan Island No. 9 during a 5 Day/5 Night Similan Islands diving and snorkel liveaboard cruise with Oktavia Dive Center. Whilst famous within the diving community the Similan Islands also offer great snorkeling opportunities – as you can see!
Typically found on reef flats among the rocks and rubble, the Moray likes to hide out in
holes that serve as small caves during the day and hunt for fish, octopus and crustaceans come the early evening and into the night.
Growing up to 1.5 meters in length, the Moray open and closes its mouth to move water through their gills for respiration. This action can appear to be somewhat threatening to the uneducated as it looks like they are showing off their teeth to any passing diver or snorkeler. The truth in fact is very different, as they are very shy creatures and will only attack when provoked.
The Bluefin Trevally (also known as ‘Jacks’) are one of the larger species of the Trevally family and can grow up to 1 meter in length. The adults develop into one for the most striking to look at also, as their back and flanks turn a stunning turquoise blue which shines bright when the sunlight hits it.
During the day they will cruise the outer reef waters and head to shallower areas come evening to feed. Favouring smaller pelagic fishes and crustaceans they are effective hunters and can turn on the speed with just a flick of their fin.

Khao Lak Motorbike Rental in Bang Niang with Charoenkit
Khao Lak motorbike rental is found at Charoenkit Co Ltd close to the Bang Niang Market.
One of the first things you notice when you arrive in Khao Lak is the abundance of motorbikes/scooters. Motorbikes are cheap to rent, fun to ride and give you the freedom to do as you wish whilst enjoying your holiday in Khao Lak. Prices range from around 250 baht to 500 baht (7-14 Euro) per day depending on the age and power of the motorbike. There is no shortage of rental shops in Bang Niang, Khao Lak, so finding what you require is easy.
Economy wise this is probably the best way to visit the sites around the Khao Lak area. Gasoline is cheap at around 25 baht (0.7 Euro) per liter and it is easily found. Gasoline stations are limited but there are many kiosk style fuel pumps that you can access 24/7. It’s always a good idea to ensure the tank is full before heading off into the countryside as the opportunities to refill are more limited.
In Thailand they drive on the left hand side of the road so be cautious when you first get on your motorbike if you’re not used to driving on the left. Generally the roads in and around Khao Lak are of a pretty good standard although you have to look out for the odd “pot hole” in the middle of the road and for some of the delivery drivers in their sporty pick-ups.
Khao Lak is blessed with amazing natural beauty and fantastic temples. Many temples and National Park areas are within a 30 minute motorbike ride and well worth a visit. One word of caution if you want to go and check out some of the local waterfalls is that the roads to these are generally rough tracks so be cautious.
Even though the weather is hot generally in Khao Lak it is Law to wear a crash helmet whilst riding a motorbike. Many people flout this law which is not only dangerous but can land you with a 500 Baht (14 Euro) fine for non compliance. It’s advisable also to take your drivers license and copy of the rental agreement with you in case you are stopped by the Police.
All in all renting a motorbike from a reputable source is a great way to get around Khao Lak. Happy riding and see you at Charoenkit.
