#SlideFire Day by Day Google Earth Map Fire Fighting Breifing May 23, 6:00 pm
Slide Fire Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona May 22 4:00 pm: Yesterday at the Sedona Performing Arts Center residents were briefed by representatives of all the agencies involved in fighting this fire and planning the reparations of the burned areas.
This video by the National Fire Incident Managers of the #SlideFire Incident Team. He gave a day by day overview of the fire, what occured and how the fire will (hopefully) be contained and put out.
There's a lot of fire to contain yet and what the audience got from this presentation was the competence, cooperation and determination of all of the agencies involved. At the time of the briefing the fire was only 5% contained at estimated to cover ~ 8,500 acres. All in all this was an upbeat report of what has occurred (versus what could have been) - that at the time of the report their had been NO Loss of Life or structures and that evacuations, fire fighting have been without incident to date!
Note in the video that the Red and Yellow represent inferred imagery (laid over Google Earth map of the area) of the fire and the blue outline the final containment line being created to stop the fire. In the end, if things go well the fire will be ~ 20-24,000 acres.
In another part of the presentation it was stated that the majority of this fire directly affects the West Fork watershed (that video will follow)
This was an amazing meeting of city, county, state, federal and civil agencies working together to save our canyon. The cooperation testified to and exhibited at this meeting were heartwarming (...at a time when Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon residents are at a loss at what is taking place and only know how little they, themselves can do).
Presentations by Sedona's national forest manager stated that as early as this weekend crews were going into the safest areas to do 1st assessments and begin reclamation activities to offset the burn and begin to mitigate flooding in the upcoming monsoon season.
Most important ... CODE RED: Coconino and Yavapai County Emergency representatives underlined the importance of preparing for the possible flash floods that come with this type of canyon fires. They have set up cell phone emergency response call systems that will give regionalized emergency evacuation notifications to your cell phone.. HOWEVER YOU MUST SIGN UP TO BE NOTIFIED! Please go to the following websites to learn more about and sign up for the emergency evacuation notification for fire, flood etc. :

ARIZONA, Getting to Sedona!
The trip of a life time! A super amazing journey to take a break and see the grand canyon and slot canyons and horseshoe bend and of course Sedona!!!!
Sedona is an Arizona desert town near Flagstaff that’s surrounded by red-rock buttes, steep canyon walls and pine forests. It’s noted for its mild climate and vibrant arts community. Uptown Sedona is dense with New Age shops, spas and art galleries. On the town’s outskirts, numerous trailheads access Red Rock State Park, which offers bird-watching, hiking and picnicking spots.
Elevation: 4,350′
Population: 10,397 (2016)
Sedona has over 100 hiking trails of various difficulty levels, all offering different breathtaking vantage points over the desert landscape. A don’t-miss would be the Boynton Canyon Trail, a path through “box canyon” terrain leading up to the Kachina Woman spire, believed by some to be the original source of the area’s vibrant energy. Soldier’s Pass Trail is another favorite for taking hikers past the Seven Sacred Pools, a series of tiered waterfalls carved out of the ochre sandstone.
March to May is Sedona’s busiest season, and for good reason. Spring is when the desert comes alive with wildflowers and the temperatures are ideal for all-day outdoor activities. Book your reservations way in advance if you plan to visit during this time.
Sedona is home to a number of annual festivals throughout the year, including the International Film Festival in February, The Festival of Native American Culture in June, and Jazz on the Rocks in October.
We recommend avoiding visits during late July and August; Arizona’s monsoon season brings sweltering temperatures and frequent rainstorms.
Late September and October bring cooler temperatures and a number of wine festivals to the area, offering a perfect chance for leisurely drives around the Verde Valley.
Expect light snow in December and January.

Dream refreshingly. This is one of our favorite destinations to share with you.
REDO of Cathedral Rock Hike in Sedona! Exploring the Verde Valley
Kyle and I attempt to hike Cathedral Rock in Sedona again. The hike was beautiful and had lots of little trails to explore. After the hike we explored Clarkdale which has a Copper Museum and scenic train. #sedona #cathedralrock

#vanlife Is new to this generation; a counter-culture whose mission is based around the idea of living more outdoors, being eco-friendly, and often times affortable. There are different off shots of this culture that are known as Escapees, Escapers, RubberTrampers, Digital Nomads, Snow birds, Rainbow kids, dirt bags, etc. People live in anything that moves, SUVs, cars, trucks, campers, trailers, bikes, tents, Class A's, school buses, step vans, Subaru's, and more. Some of us ask if others are full-timers or part timers This just means if you have a sticks and bricks(house) home base or if you have sold everything and are always on the road. I have been full time in my van for 2 1/2 years camping, boondocking, stealth camping, driveway surfing, parking lot hopping along the way. Every place is new and different and I have friends in many states now. The day to day life is interesting and filled with unknowns. I do get frustrated at it sometimes but I find that even after a few months of staying still I need to pick up and keep going. Seasonal and temporary jobs keep me going but also your support of my channel. I don't know if I would be still on the road in this capacity if it wasn't for your support and encouragement. I feel honored to have so many people rooting for me to keep at it! Through trials and tribulations, sunrises and sunsets this lifestyle change has been a growing experience.
Stay Curious!

Uptown Sedona is dense with New Age shops, spas and art galleries. On the town’s outskirts, numerous trailheads access Red Rock State Park, which offers bird-watching, hiking and picnicking spots.
Nestled amid striking red sandstone formations at the south end of the 16-mile Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona attracts spiritual seekers, artists and healers, as well as day-trippers from Phoenix trying to escape the oppressive heat. Many New Age types believe that this area is the center of vortexes (not 'vortices' here in Sedona) that radiate the earth's power, and you'll find all sorts of alternative medicines and practices on display. More tangibly, the surrounding canyons offer outstanding hiking, biking, swimming and camping.
The town itself bustles with art galleries and expensive gourmet restaurants. In summer the traffic and the crowds can be heavy. Regionally, Oak Creek Canyon begins north of Uptown Sedona; the Village of Oak Creek, however, is south of the city.
Sedona's main attraction is its array of red sandstone formations. The formations appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun. The red rocks form a popular backdrop for many activities, ranging from spiritual pursuits to the hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails. Sedona was named after Sedona Arabella Miller Schnebly (1877–1950), the wife of Theodore Carlton Schnebly, the city's first postmaster, who was celebrated for her hospitality and industriousness.
Sedona is located in the Upper Sonoran Desert of northern Arizona. Sedona has mild winters and hot summers. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.2 square miles (49.7 km2), of which 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2), or 0.22%, is water. The red rocks of Sedona are formed by a unique layer of rock known as the Schnebly Hill Formation. The Schnebly Hill Formation is a thick layer of red to orange-colored sandstone found only in the Sedona vicinity. The sandstone, a member of the Supai Group, was deposited during the Permian Period.

Bio/Purpose for This Channel
Born in Pittsburgh, PA , I was surrounded by individuals who chose to simply go through the motions and stick to the norm. From a young age I realized that I wanted to challenge the status quo not by dreaming, but by DOING. So a month after graduating I moved 2,057 miles away from home (if using google maps) to Scottsdale, AZ.
At the beginning of this year (4 years later) I realized my life's passion was to explore the world through hiking adventures and life changing experiences. This is that journey.
