City in Japan
Sendai is a city in Japan’s Tohoku Region, northeast of Tokyo on Honshu island.
The remains of 17th-century Sendai Castle, built for samurai lord Date Masamune on Aoba Hill, overlook the city and include a museum of historic artifacts. The Sendai City Museum focuses on the history and culture of Japan’s Edo period and displays Masamune’s samurai armor.

JR Sendai Station (JR 仙台駅), Sendai city, Japan
Sendai (仙台) is the capital city of Miyagi prefecture in Japan. It is also one of the largest cities in Japan. JR Sendai station (JR 仙台駅) is in the center of the city and is one of the large stations on JR East Railways. Major Shinkansens (Bullet Trains) that travel in the Northeast (Tohoku) region all stop at Sendai. Around Sendai are two large shopping avenues (Aoba-dori and Ichibancho) are Sendai's version of Ginza shopping district in Tokyo.
Sendai suffered a devastating Tsunami as a result of the Great Japan Earthquake in March 2011. The tsunami devastated a large section of the coastline but spared the center of the city. While the Sendai Airport was hit by the Tsunami (because it is closer to the coast) the Sendai Train Station is spared. Now the Sendai city is trying to get back to normal with all it's vigor and vitality.
Enjoy.

Let's explore Sendai City...
We start, as many do, in front of Sendai (train) Station. We then hop onto the Sendai City Loop Bus (Loople Sendai) and ride the bus out of the heart of city, up to the location of Aoba Castle. Where there are terrific views over the city skyline below.
We head back into the city centre to see some folks taking photos with a group of samurai warrior cosplayers. Finally, we take a walk down Asaichi Market street and check out the rich selection of foods they have for sale.
I hope you enjoy your spring day exploring Sendai City. If you did please leave a comment below!

My name is Rob Dyer. I was born in England and have been exploring Japan since 2000. In 2001 I married my Japanese wife in a traditional ceremony in a Shinto Shrine.
My wife and I now split my time between Japan and the UK.

Ichiban Goro - your everyday hangout in Sendai city center
A Japanese bar/restaurant Ichiban Goro is located along the busy arcade of Ichibancho. It's famous for the quality and variety of Gyoza (Chinese dumplings) as well as other dishes that use Sendai's local vegetables.
Everything is reasonably priced, if not VERY inexpensive, and English menu/service is available (from the end of April 2013).
If you're living or visiting Sendai, come find out their Gyoza and enjoy cozy, relaxed atmosphere there.

Sendai Loople Bus Tour | Japan 2016 | Episode 13 Pt 1
We woke up to find the rain we expected, but that didn't dampen our excitement to get out and explore Sendai. Luckily, the rain cleared by the time we finished breakfast and started to head out for the day.
Sendai has an amazing setup for tourists, getting around to all the major sights is a breeze thanks to what they call the Loople Bus, a sightseeing bus which follows the same loop all day. The bus terminal where you can purchase the Loople Bus pass is located below the pedestrian deck out front of Sendai Station, a Google map link is below.
We started our tour at Kyogamine Hill where to found the Zuiho-ji Temple and the primary reason we came to this spot, Zuihōden Mausoleum where rests the remains of Date Masamune, the first feudal lord of Japan. We were taken aback how peaceful it was wandering around the sights as it was only a 10 minute bus ride from the centre of Sendai.
Next up was a visit to the Sendai City Museum where you’ll get a peak into the early years at Sendai, and gain a better appreciation for Date Masamune. There are lots of old maps on display showing the progress of Sendai over the centuries. There is also a few spectacular samurai armours on display including the famous one of Date Masamune, crescent moon helmet and all.
By the end of part 1 we were making our way up the hill to the city of the Sendai Castle. Stay tuned to part 2 for fantastic views of Sendai and another peaceful temple in the middle of the city.
