Seneca State Forest is a state forest located in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. Created in 1924, it is oldest state forest in West Virginia. It is the second-largest state forest at 11,684 acres .The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources rents eight fully equipped pioneer cabins. As of 2013, the Thorny Mountain Fire Tower is also being renovated and will be available for overnight rentals.Public hunting and fishing is available in the forest. Visitors can boat on 4-acre Seneca Lake. The forest contains a section of the Allegheny Trail and other trails, and is near the Greenbrier River Trail.A Civilian Conservation Corps camp was once located near the current Seneca State Forest office. CCC-related resources in the forest were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

Rt 28 Monongahela National Forest

Monongahela National Forest Overview from WV Rt 28 between Cherry Grove and Arbovale WV. This road contains one of the highest concentrations of forest roads intersecting a major highway you will find in the forest. Once on a majority of the forest roads you will find multiple options to take other forest roads, with varying degrees of accessibility. Many of the roads support passenger vehicles, but some may require a truck or SUV. Since many of the roads are single lane with turnouts, it is recommended to keep track of turnouts where two vehicles can pass. Most of the roads lead to the many trail heads that dot the forest and wilderness areas. Others may provide access to the many knobs that characterize this part of the mountains. Some roads may deteriorate as you travel down them, so be prepared to turn around if necessary.

consist of private woods, National Forest Access and cabin sites with access to Monongahela National Forest & George Washington National Forest. Two Lick Trail Loop & Middle Mountain Loop are two of the nearby trails.

The Greenbrier River Trail, WV - Path Pedaler Episode 2

In this episode Mary Jo will be exploring the Greenbrier River Trail located in the Allegheny Mountains in southeastern West Virginia. She starts her adventure in Cass where she visits the Cass Scenic Railroad, then rides south to the town of Marlinton where she spends the night at Appalachian Sport. The next morning Mary Jo continues south through the picturesque countryside enjoying everything this trail has to offer. This 77 mile trail passes through some of the most remote country in West Virginia. She finishes her ride at Caldwell the southern most terminus of the trail. Mary Jo also takes in the sights and rich history of the Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park.
