Lake Sentani is the largest lake in Papua province, with an area of approximately 9,360 hectares and is located at an altitude of 75 m above sea level. When viewed from the air, Lake Sentani looks like a giant green pool of water surrounded by hills. If the shape of the lake is generally relatively circular, Lake Sentani slightly different form. The lake is actually snaking tub-headed dragon in the west end and a tail at the east end. On the north side of Lake Sentani are Cyclops Mountains with abundant water. The spring water that forms Lake Sentani.

Danau Sentani adalah danau terbesar di Provinsi Papua, dengan luas sekitar 9.360 hektar dan berada pada ketinggian 75 m dpl. Saat dilihat dari udara, Danau Sentani terlihat bak kolam air hijau raksasa yang dikelilingi oleh perbukitan. Jika bentuk danau pada umumnya relatif melingkar, bentuk Danau Sentani sedikit berbeda. Danau ini justru meliuk-liuk bak naga yang berkepala di ujung barat dan berekor di ujung timur. Di sisi utara Danau Sentani terdapat Pegunungan Cyclops dengan mata air yang berlimpah. Mata air inilah yang membentuk Danau Sentani.
Danau Sentani terus menjadi perhatian wisatawan mancanegara karena selain daya tarik keindahan alamnya juga memiliki keunikan budaya masyarakat setempat. Menaiki perahu di danau ini akan menjadi pengalaman yang indah. Anda bisa menyewa perahu bermotor di salah satu desa. Merasakan hembusan angin membelai ketika melaju di danau, mengabadikan rumah-rumah panggung, serta berkenalan dengan penduduk setempat hanya bisa Anda dapatkan dan rasakan di danau ini.
Hidup sebagai nelayan dan lokasinya yang dekat dengan ibu kota provinsi, adalah alasan mengapa sebagian besar penduduk sekitar danau terbuka pada pengunjung. Rumah panggung dengan kolam dan jaring adalah pemandangan umum di danau. Danau ini merupakan rumah bagi setidaknya 33 jenis ikan, yang hampir separuh dari mereka adalah asli danau ini. ikan gergaji (Pristis Microdon) merupakan ikan asli danau ini, namun kini diperkirakan sudah punah. Ikan ini merupakan salah satu ornamen adat pada kerajinan kayu Sentani.

Lake Sentani Festival, West Papua
This is now an annual festival, held on shore of Lake Sentani in West Papua. It would have to be one of the most amazing spectacles around. Dan Schist and I flew over in 2008 to shoot the first one and apparently we were the first crew let into the country for many years, allowed to film. This is a brief snapshot of some of the things that happened. Its happening this weekend again, June 19 2010. Wish I was there. Hopefully next year.

On March 16-18, 2019 the location of Lake Sentani experienced an overflow of water so that houses in the vicinity of Sentani Lake were flooded due to high rainfall in the cyclops and surrounding mountains resulting in overflow of river water and a disaster of overflowing water for residents living around Sentani lake the water level starts from normal height rising to approximately 4 meters from the maximum standard resulting in a lot of property and houses being flooded with water and even streams and winds destroying people's homes and causing various itching around Lake Sentani water the lake was contaminated by the 2019 flash flood in Sentani Jayapura Regency
