Serpent Mound is a massive earthwork depicting an uncoiling serpent and is the largest and finest effigy mound in the United States. Spanning nearly 1,300 feet in length, it is thought to be constructed by the Fort Ancient culture more than 1,000 years ago. Today, it is a National Historic Landmark. The Great Serpent Mound is a 1,348-foot (411 m)-long,[2] three-foot-high prehistoric effigy mound on a plateau of the Serpent Mound crater along Ohio Brush Creek in Adams County, Ohio. Maintained within a park by the Ohio History Connection, it has been designated a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of Interior. The Serpent Mound of Ohio was first reported from surveys by Ephraim Squire and Edwin Davis in their historic volume Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley, published in 1848 by the newly founded Smithsonian Museum.

OHIO'S SERPENT MOUND
The Great Serpent Mound is a 1,348-foot long, three-foot-high prehistoric effigy mound on a plateau of the Serpent Mound crater along Ohio Brush Creek in Adams County, Ohio. Maintained within a park by the Ohio History Connection, it has been designated a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of Interior. The Serpent Mound of Ohio was first reported from surveys by Ephraim Squire and Edwin Davis in their historic volume Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley, published in 1848 by the newly founded Smithsonian Museum.
Researchers have attributed construction of the mound to three different prehistoric indigenous cultures. Originally thought to be Adena in origin, a 1996 carbon dating study led scholars to believe the mound was built by members of the Fort Ancient culture around 1070 CE. Most recent dating places the mound at around 300 BCE, once again suggesting Adena construction. Serpent Mound is the largest serpent effigy in the world.
Serpent Mound Summer Solstice
This short film was shot over the weekend of June 16-17, 2017 at the Friends of Serpent Mound's Summer Solstice Celebration festival which is held at Serpent Mound State Memorial and on Soaring Eagle Retreat, adjacent to the park near Peebles, Ohio.
Much like the mounds in Anderson, Indiana, Serpent Mound was also threatened by a developer's reservoir project to build a dam on Brush Creek back in the 1990s. Brush Creek runs at the foot of bluffs just below the Serpent Mound earthwork. Fortunately, the project failed due to the extensive archaeological mitigation what would've been necessary.

Hers some very hi def footage of the GREAT SERPENT MOUND In ADAMS COUNTY OHIO,Now the story we are given on this mounds true history is sketchy to say the least. All over the US and the world for that matter have recorded burial mounds and the associated artifacts found within. All are almost completly sweeped away and hidden in private collections or in the SMITHSONIAN never to be seen by common folk again. This mound precisly points to stars and constelations in the sky in a manner that would rival many astronomists today.
