Amazing Shadows-on-the-Teche - New Iberia, Louisiana
Built in 1831-1834 for David and Mary Weeks, Shadows-on-the-Teche is a historic house and garden on the Bayou Teche. Most homes of this era faced the bayou since water was the primary method of transportation. In this case, the rear of Shadows-on-the-Teche faced the Bayou. Complete family history and plantation records exist today due to the fact that only one family has resided here since 1834. This sequence was shot in January 2000.

The Bayou Teche Campaign, or First Bayou Teche Campaign, was a brief military campaign in April and May 1863 during the American Civil War by forces from the Confederate States Army seeking to prevent the Union Army from gaining control of northern Louisiana.Union forces were seeking to gain a foothold on the Red River as a prelude to besieging Port Hudson, a Confederate strong point on the Mississippi River.A second campaign, featuring a series of maneuvers in the same region from October until November 1863 is often referred to as the Second Bayou Teche Campaign.

Cajun Homecoming Return to Louisiana

Returning to Louisiana after being on the road for such a long time gave us a greater appreciation for family, friends, and just being home! A Cajun Homecoming is filled with family gatherings, outings with old friends, and new perspectives on sights that are right in your back yard.
Where We Stayed: With our new solar set up, we were able to boondock on Travis’s property.
What We Visited: We spent a day downtown, visiting some on the popular sights in New Iberia, LA. We first walked down Main St, and toured the Shadows on the Teche, a Nationally Preserved Plantation Home built in 1834.
We also visited the New Iberia City Park, took a stroll through the old Oak Trees and enjoyed the day.
The last place we visited was the Konriko Rice Mill, it is the oldest rice mill in the US and are one of the major sellers of rice.
Family is everything and Louisiana is at the heart of our travels. It will always be home to us, so come enjoy our Cajun Homecoming!

New Canton Plantation circa 1840
Built in 1840 Eldridge Hord turned a 3000 acre land grant from King George into a center of commerce in the area for over 100 years. Built in the Palladian style, (better known as Jeffersonian), the homes 18 thick walls hold more than 1 million handmade bricks. The mill held a post office, general store and produced ground corn, wheat and barley for 110 years. New Canton Plantation is one of the few remaining antebellum plantations surviving today. Now, The Plantation's rich history hosts Weddings and Special Events. It is located in Church Hill Tennessee.

I have not actually been to the plantation but now it is on my travel wish list! I saw pictures and fell in love. So I made this, my first video ever! I wanted to finally teach myself how to use the video software so I chose this project and now I feel almost like I have been there.
