Shanghai Vlog: ChongMing Island DongTan Wetland Park!

Just an hour way from downtown Shanghai by bus/car is ChongMing Island, which seems worlds apart from the concrete jungle that is Shanghai. In addition to endless acres of farmland, ChongMing Island is home to several parks. It's the perfect weekend getaway for someone looking for tranquility and nature. We spent the day at DongTan Wetland Park.
We took public bus No. 2 from the Science & Technology Museum subway station on Line 2. It's a non-stop bus service that takes about one hour and costs just 12 RMB per person! From the bus stop on ChongMing Island, we took a metered taxi to the Wetland Park, which was about 18 km away. The taxi ride ended up costing 60 RMB. The admission ticket was 80 RMB per adult. We couldn't resist the opportunity to ride another tandem bike, so we rented one for 40 RMB for two hours. You also have the option to rent regular bikes or pay to ride a golf cart type car around the park.
Getting back to the bus station was a bit tricky because the park is in a quiet area that doesn't see much taxi traffic. Most visitors actually had their own car. Fortunately it wasn't long before we were able to hail an unofficial taxi for 25 RMB per person. It seemed like you could haggle the price to as low as 15 RMB per person.
We didn't realize until after we got to the island just how large it is! You could easily spend 3-4 days there exploring all the parks. We definitely want to plan another trip to ChongMing Island!

A Day in Chongming Island ft. The Most Epic Cartwheel EVER
Hey peoples! If you didn't know there is an Island in Shanghai that is the 3rd largest in China. If you're looking for a day trip out of the city, consider hitting up one of the parks in Chongming (mainly Dongtan Wetlands and Dongping). The views are everywhere.
I spent the day being silly with my fellow teachers. With all the tech around us, it's always good to get out every now and then. Parks are my all time getaway and the island of Chongming has a lot of them to offer.
If you ever though about happy when your teachers weren't teaching well, I've got all the answers. And basically we're all out here being silly and enjoying life.

Four dogs, rescued from various shelters around Shanghai, emBARKed on a trip with their expat owners during the October Mid-Autumn festival in 2018. The dogs had a great time running around the rice fields of Jill's Farm (AirBnB Link below), while the owners relaxed in the peace and quiet of Chong Ming Island, 2 hours drive from downtown Shanghai.

Chongqing (, also US: , Chinese: [ʈʂʰʊ̌ŋ.tɕʰîŋ] (listen)), alternately romanized as Chungking, is a major city in southwest China. Administratively, it is one of China's four municipalities under the direct administration of central government (the other three are Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin), and the only such municipality in China located far away from the coast.Chongqing was a municipality during the Republic of China (ROC) administration, serving as its wartime capital during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945); during this period, Chongqing was listed as one of the world's four anti-fascist command centers, along with Washington, D.C., London and Moscow. The current municipality was recreated on 14 March 1997 to help develop the central and western parts of China. The Chongqing administrative municipality has a population of over 30 million, spread over an area the size of Austria. The city of Chongqing made of 9 urban districts has a much smaller population of 18,384,100 as of 2016 estimation. According to the 2010 census, Chongqing is the most populous Chinese municipality, and also the largest direct-controlled municipality in China, containing 26 districts, eight counties, and four autonomous counties.
The official abbreviation of the city, Yu (渝), was approved by the State Council on 18 April 1997. This abbreviation is derived from the old name of a part of the Jialing River that runs through Chongqing and feeds into the Yangtze River.
Chongqing has a significant history and culture. Being one of China's National Central Cities, it serves as the economic centre of the upstream Yangtze basin. It is a major manufacturing centre and transportation hub; a July 2012 report by the Economist Intelligence Unit described it as one of China's 13 emerging megalopolises.
