Our hike to the Yakfields around Shangri-La and our Tibetan Homestay we arranged with: Khampa Caravan.
Loved it! The hike is definitely lonely and unique, though the village was not as spectaculair as we'd hoped.
And for those who wonder: Till early 2000's this town was called Zongdian, but the government thought it would attrack more tourists if they would rename the place Shangri-La. After the novel of James Hilton. Where Shangri-La is described as a mystical paradise on earth....
In 2014 the old city got fire and hundreds of houses were destroyed. Though rebuilding goes fast!

So the following day, we hopped into the car to Shangri-la right after discovering the beauty of Lijiang . We went to the Tiger Leaping Gorge which is one of the deepest gorges with spectacular sceneries on the planet, and it has the best hiking trail in the China. We continued our journey to Shangri-la's Old Town and even the Potatso/ Pudacuo National Park.

What equipment do you use?
I have a Canon 700D with Rode VideoMic Go, a Canon Powershot S120 and a GoPro Hero 3+ Black. I edit on my Acer 8GB RAM laptop.
How did you learn to edit?
I taught myself. I downloaded Premiere Pro and began to figure out how to use it through trial and error. My videos were pretty bad at first but eventually, and with the help of many tutorials, you start to figure out what works.
What work are you doing?
Right now I am running this video blog while doing freelance web design and video editing to supplement my travelling lifestyle.
How do you meet the people in your videos?
Hostels, guesthouses and conversations! You meet people so easily while travelling. Just open yourself up and you will meet all sorts of amazing people.

Journey to Amazing Shangri-la Tibet
Shangrila Tibet
Shangrila is the common known name for Zhongdian. Also known as Gyalthang by a majority of the Tibetans. Shangrila lies on the ancient tea and horse route at 3,200 mts in the northern part of Yunnan province.
One of the main highlights in Shangrila is the Ganden Sumtseling Monastery `the Little Potala` also called Songzanlin. Originally built in the 17th century, it belongs to the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism.
The monastery used to have over two thousand monks but currently houses about nine hundred monks and few tulkus `Living Buddhas` (incarnated spiritual masters and emanations). Khyungser Trichen Rinpoche is one of the incarnated spiritual masters of the monastery.
Other attractions are the 1300 year old Dukezong Old Town with cobblestone roads and wooden traditional buildings that is being rebuilt since the tragic fire in January 2014.
Guishan park has the eye catching 80 feet golden prayer wheel on its hillside.
Travelling with SBI Board Member Tseyang Khangkar who is also one of the assistants to the Shangri-la Tulku Kyabje Khyungser Trichen Rinpoche (reincarnation of the 65th Ganden Tripa).
His Holiness the Ganden Tripa: The holder of the golden throne of Ganden Monastery and head of the Gelugpa School, and the direct successor to the Dharma Lord Je Tsongkhapa.

A Visit to Shangri-La
Formerly called Zhongdian, Shangri-La is the headquarters of the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. There tourists can visit Songzanlin Monastery, Shangri-La Old Town and also pay a visit to a local's family.

Visiting Shangrila / ZhongDian in YunNan province, the second biggest buddhist temple in the world after the Potala Palace in Tibet, songzanlin monastery, also the Napa Lakes Grasslands. then headin goff to Dali to checkout the scenery and also a bit of the night life.
Under the influence of alcohol, I ask the question: Are foreigners welcome in China? Obviously depends who you ask, but this isn't South Korea or Pakistan nor Germany, things are nuanced but overall positive.
