Thanksgiving in the Woods!-Cumberland Falls Overnight Backpacking
Join us for another overnight backpacking trip on Thanksgiving day! For this trip we headed to Cumberland Falls in Corbin Kentucky. We started out at the impressive Niagara Falls of the south before heading off on the Sheltowee Trace trail for some Thanksgiving/black Friday camping. Mikka the adventure pug leads the way!
Hiking in a twenty pound turkey is a little unrealistic, right?? We play more of our interpretation game (it's clearly Loch Ness!) on our way out to Dog Slaughter Falls, yes that's really the name! We take the opportunity to re-name the falls because Mikka didn't care for that name. Check out our 100% effective bear proof overnight food storage technique.

Cumberland Falls: Hiking the Moonbow Trail
This is Day 2 of our trip to Cumberland Falls State Park in Corbin, Kentucky. We woke up to beautiful weather and had a somewhat edible breakfast before hitting the trails. We decided to take the Moonbow Trail and turn it into a loop which was about 7-8 miles total. We took the Moonbow Trail (Trail 1) which follows along the Sheltowee Trace and connected to trail 2 which led us up to Pinnacle Knob Fire Tower. We met up with our friends Jeremiah and Bridgitte along the trail as well. We then hiked around some beautiful rock sculptures and finished the trail. We worked up quite an appetite and the four of us had an amazing meal at Dupont Lodge. We slept well at camp on this night. The next morning we planned on checking out Yahoo Falls, but we discovered the first Kentucky Fried Chicken was located in Corbin. We chose the chicken over the trail! I highly recommend this family friendly park!!!

Cumberland Falls: Eagles Falls Trail
Join us as we head down to Cumberland Falls State Resort Park for a few days to camp and hike. I've only been to Cumberland Falls one time as a kid and loved it and have a whole new appreciation for it as an adult. The falls are absolutely beautiful and the trails are challenging and scenic. The park has a full service lodge with restaurant, cottages, and electric and non electric campsites. The Sheltowee Trace Recreational Trail runs through the park and the park itself offers plenty of beautiful hiking trails. This is a park that we highly recommend checking out!

MainStreet - Sheltowee Trace Outfitters
The crew for this piece left the station in Bowling Green, Kentucky at 4am and drove three hours to get to the Sheltowee Trace Outfitters on the Cumberland River in McCreary County. The crew consisted of 5 people, two who stayed on the land, two who went in one raft to shoot most of the video, and one student production member who wore a GoPro on his head, that unfortunately only made it half-way through the day before becoming a permanent resident of the river while going through one of the rapids.
Rainbow Mist

The Clifty Wilderness and Other Shenanigans (Daniel Boone National Forest)
This year for our annual Independence Day Camping trip we took the family (all 9 of us) backpacking in the Clifty Wilderness located inside the Daniel Boone National Forest. It's a remote and rugged area in which we found a magical campsite tucked between two creeks.

Daniel Boone National Forest: Natural Arch Scenic Area
The Natural Arch Scenic Area is located in the Stearns Ranger District of the Daniel Boone National Forest, in McCreary County, Kentucky. This impressive sandstone arch reaches a height of 50 feet and spans nearly 100 feet across. The 945 acre area was preserved in 1961 and is considered part of the Big South Fork Recreation Area. The trail to the arch (Forest Trail 510) is a 1.5 mile lollipop loop that takes you to the base of the arch and then around the entire rock formation. Although this is a short hike it is truly impressive and a must see if you're in the area. For those that have more time the Buffalo Canyon Trail (Trail 508) is 5 miles in length and explores the gorge in more detail. It branches off from the arch trail as seen in the video. Other than a short but steep climb out of the gorge the arch loop trail is easy. Considering the climb out of the gorge, we rate this trail 2.5 out of 5 Billy Goats. To reach the Natural Arch, travel on State Route 27, 5 miles north of Whitley City, Kentucky. You will see a sign as you turn left on to County route 927. From there it's less than 2 miles to the day use parking area. Hope you enjoy this hike! Thanks for watching!

Located in the Daniel Boone National Forest red river gorge is the Sky Bridge Trail #214 in Kentucky AllTrails shows it as a loop and if you take it, it would be easier to go counter clockwise so that you would take the stairs down and the nice incline up.
