Hundreds of Anglers in Branson for Fly Fishing Expo
BRANSON, Mo. -- This year's expo features about 25 vendors and factory reps -- plus close to 60 fly tiers showing off their skills.
Harry Morgan, Fly Tying manager for the expo, says the proceeds from the event will help their cause.
It's actually a fundraiser for both the Branson and the Springfield Fly Fishing Club, said Morgan.
When you see that line going out, he said, and you got a big fish on there, there's nothing like it,
For those who really understand the draw of fly fishing...they say it's quite the art.
There are very many different techniques related to fly fishing, said Dave Wotton, fly fishing expert and guide, for the different species..you know and generally in this area is pretty much trout, which are cold water species and warm water species. But my program today will be orientated with trout fly fishing.
Wotton says the sport today is not the fly fishing he participated in back in the 50's.
80 percent of what takes place here today..did not exist, said Wotton, Most of the materials that people use here today for fly ties weren't around. They use synthetic materials or man made products..you know. When I started it was all natural material.
Although fly fishing is a male dominated sport -- quite a few women are catching on.
Carolyn Parker got interested in fly fishing back in the 60's. Now, she and her husband own River Run Outfitters, a full line fly fishing store in Branson, where she also teaches women the sport.
We started 10 years ago in April with 12 women, Parker said, We are now over 195. I think we're close to 200 strong.
Went camping one time..and wandered into the fly fishing area at Bennett Springs State Park, said Diane James, whose been fly fishing for 8 years, And I saw the guys fly fishing and I fell in love.
Tomorrow morning, the expo features fly fishing fun for kids 15 and under, at the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery.
Comedienne Steve Sanders will be there to entertain the children. It runs between 9 and 11 am.
Table Rock Lake
Table Rock Lake is an artificial lake or reservoir in The Ozarks of southwestern Missouri and northwestern Arkansas. The lake is impounded by Table Rock Dam, constructed in 1954-1958 on the White River by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
It is one of the popular draws for the nearby town of Branson, Missouri. There are several commercial marinas along the lake, and Table Rock State Park is located on the east side, both north and south of Table Rock Dam. Downstream from the dam, the Missouri Department of Conservation operates a fish hatchery, which is used to stock trout in Lake Taneycomo. The cold water discharged from the dam creates a trout fishing environment in Lake Taneycomo.

Places to see in ( Branson - USA )
Places to see in ( Branson - USA )
Branson is an Ozark town in southwest Missouri known as a family vacation destination. Its 76 Country Boulevard is famously lined with theaters, which once hosted mostly country music performers but today present diverse entertainment. Also along the strip are the Marvel Cave, the Wild West-style Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Dinner Attraction and Silver Dollar City, an 1800s-themed amusement park with live music.
Branson has long been a popular destination for vacationers from Missouri and neighboring areas. The collection of entertainment theaters along 76 Country Boulevard (and to a lesser extent along Shepherd of the Hills Expressway), including Dolly Parton's Stampede, has increased Branson's popularity as a tourist destination. Branson now draws visitors from all regions of the country and even internationally.
Besides the numerous entertainment theaters for which Branson is famous, other local attractions include Hollywood Wax Museum Branson, Silver Dollar City, White Water, Mount Pleasant Winery, Curling Vine Winery, Ride the Ducks, Dolly Parton's Stampede, ziplines, cave tours, go-karts, mini golf, and more. Ripley's Odditorium is housed in a building that has been made to look as if it is cracked wide open by an earthquake or other disaster, while the Titanic Museum is a half-scale replica of the famous ship and iceberg.
Branson Landing opened in the summer of 2006 on the Lake Taneycomo waterfront in downtown Branson. The lakefront project includes retail space with Bass Pro Shops and Belk as anchors in an outdoor shopping mall of stores and restaurants. It also features a scenic boardwalk along the lakefront with the Branson Landing Fountains at the heart of the property as well as a Hilton Hotel. Branson Landing has been known to host summer concerts and other special events throughout the year. The convention center, situated between Branson Landing and Historic Downtown Branson, opened September 7, 2007. The Branson Scenic Railway is located in the old depot, across from Branson Landing.
Hokey Branson is a cheerfully shameless tourist resort. The main attractions are the more than 50 theaters hosting 100-plus country music, magic and comedy shows. The neon-lit '76 Strip' (Hwy 76) packs in miles of motels, restaurants, wax museums, shopping malls, fun parks and theaters. Drive just a few minutes out of town, however, and you'll find yourself in pristine Ozark wilderness.
