2015 Shiawassee NWR Dec 8th
The following iMovie was created from photos/videos that I took on Dec 8, 2015 while I was conducting my weekly IWMMP (waterbird) survey at Shiawassee NWR. This contains clips of an injured river otter that came to my attention by its low barks and growls. It had trauma to its head, possibly by a fight with a coyote or other otter or possibly a trap (least likely). Aside from its head trauma, it physically moved without apparent problems. Its behavior, however, was abnormal as it growled/barked at me the entire time that I observed it. at fairly close range. It was disturbing to see the injured otter in spite of its seemingly unencumbered mobility.

Roughly two years ago Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge contacted me to see if I would like to volunteer once a week to count waterbirds for the Integrated Waterbird Monitoring & Management Program. Wait...What??!! You want me to count waterbirds...the person who would be Sesame Street's bird equivalent to The Count? Where do I sign up???!!! Each and every time I've gone out there, I've been blessed with multitudes of observations. Here's just a portion of the waterfowl that Roger Eriksson and I counted yesterday on the refuge. BTW...I'm also getting addicted to iMovie.....
