Sivasagar Sivadol is a group of structures comprising three Hindu temples of Sivadol, Visnudol and Devidol, other shrines, and a museum. These are located on the banks of the Sivasagar (the ocean of the god Shiva) tank, also known as the Borpukhuri tank, in the heart of Sivasagar, in the Indian state of Assam. The tank was constructed between 1731 and 1738 and the temples were built in 1734 by Bar Raja Ambika, queen of Ahom king Swargadeo Siba Singha (1714–1744).The height of the Sivadol (dol means temple in Assamese) is 104 feet (32 m) and the perimeter is 195 feet (59 m) at the base. It is crowned with an 8-foot (2.4 m) high golden-dome.

The Sivadol or Shiva temple, built in the Shikhara architecture, has a central tower which is said to be the tallest Shiva temple tower in India at a height of 104 feet (32 m). The Shikhara or Vimana (temple tower), which rises above the sanctum sanctorum, has a four-tiered, 8 feet (2.4 m) mastaka and is crowned by a kalasha made of gold. Which british tried to take to London. But they did not because of the mysterious power of this shiva temple in assam.

Siva Dol - The most revered Shiva temple of Upper Assam
The Sivadol stands on the bank of Borpukhuri tank in the heart of Sivasagar, Assam. It was built in 1734 by Bar Raja Ambika, queen of Ahom king Swargadeo Siba Singha. The Sivadol (dol means temple in Assamese) is believed to be the tallest Shiva temple in India. Its height is 104 feet (32 m) and the perimeter is 195 ft (59 m) at the base. It is capped by an eight feet high golden-dome. Each year during the Shivaratri, a huge mela (fair) is organised in the temple ground and pilgrims from all over India arrives here to offer puja.

Sivasagar Tank, also known as Borpukhuri is a large tank in Sivasagar dug by the Ahoms three centuries ago. It is located in the heart of Sivasagar, Assam, India. The tank is located near the Sivasagar Sivadol, a major landmark of the town. The tank is built on an area of 130 acres (52.6 hectares) and is 64 feet (19.5 metres) deep. This large tank was built by Queen Ambika, wife of King Swargadeo Shiva Singha, in the year 1734 and named it after her husband to commemorate his name. The water level of the tank never changes which highlights the advanced hydrology of the Ahom period. According to historian Mills, the tank was built in one night. The tank is an architectural masterpiece made hundred of years ago. One cannot visually understand that it was made in the absence of any technological support. The tank is also one of the oldest structures in Assam.

The construct of this temple was started during the reign of Ahom King Lakhimi Singha (A.D. 1769-1780) and was consecrated during the reign of king Gauri Nath Singha (A.D. 1780-1794). It was situated near the bank of Na-Pukhuri a distance of 8 Km from Sivasagar town, Assam, India

Shiva Temple - It is about 45 minute walking distance from ASTC bus station. Or you can go by share Auto INR 10.

2. Gauri Sagar Lake- It is just behind the Shiva Temple.
15 minute is enough to spend.
3. Tai Ahom Museum- It is about 30 minute walking distance from Gauri Sagar Lake. You can also take share auto.
Entry fees is INR 10
Time required to see is one hour.
It is on the banks of Sibsagar Lake and displays artefacts such as royal armoury, clothes, manuscripts, etc which belonged to the rulers of the Ahom dynasty.
4. Joy Sagar Lake
You have to come back to shiva temple, from there you will get share auto for INR 20.
It will take 45 minute to see Joy Sagar lake.
5. Talatal Ghar- It will take 30 minute on foot from Joy sagar lake.
This is one of the most popular attraction of Sibsagar. Just 6km from the town, this is a three storey structure including and underground level. People come here for the lovely architecture, design and the great upkeep.
6. Rang Ghar or Rong Ghar
Often referred to as the 'Colosseum of the East', Rang Ghar is one of the oldest surviving amphitheaters of Asia. It is located near Rangpur Palace at a distance of 3 km from Sibsagar town. The name translates to 'House of Entertainment' and dates back to 1746 A.D. when the Ahoms used to rule present-day Assam. This monument is an important edifice reflecting the architectural precision and grandeur of that time.

Sibsagar, present day Sivasagar, was the capital of Ahom kingdom. The Ahoms had migrated from South China in 1228 and established their first capital at Charaideo 28 kilometres (17 mi) from present day Sivsagar in 1253. Initially they were Buddhists, though Hinduism came to prevail. It was the capital of the Ahom Kingdom till the British Raj was established in India. The tank was constructed between 1731 and 1738 and the temples were built in 1734 by Bar Raja Ambika, queen of Ahom king Swargadeo Siba Singha.
