Shivneri Fort is a 17th-century military fortification located near Junnar in Pune district in Maharashtra, India. It is the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of Maratha Empire.
How To Reach:
The nearest town Junnar is a taluka place and is well connected by road. Junnar is about 90 km from Pune. The fort is at about 2-3 km from the junnar town. It is easy to reach the fort top via main entrance, however the trekkers with proper climbing equipment can try the chain route which is located on the western scarp of the fort. From the top of the fort, Narayangad, Hadsar, Chavand and Nimgiri forts can easily be seen.

SHIVNERI FORT ,BIRTH PLACE OF CHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ.Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born at the fort on 19 February 1630 and spent his childhood there. Inside the fort is a small temple dedicated to the goddess Shivai Devi, after whom Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was named.
Naneghat, also referred to as Nanaghat or Nana Ghat , is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range between the Konkan coast and the ancient town of Junnar in the Deccan plateau. The pass is about 120 kilometres (75 mi) north of Pune and about 165 kilometres (103 mi) east from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was a part of an ancient trading route, and is famous for a major cave with Hindu Sanskrit inscriptions in Brahmi script.] These inscriptions have been dated between the 2nd and the 1st century BCE, and attributed to the Satavahana dynasty era.] The inscriptions are notable for linking the Vedic and Vaishnavism deities, mentioning some Vedic srauta rituals and of names that provide historical information about the ancient Satavahanas.] The inscriptions present the world's oldest numeration symbols for 2, 4, 6, 7, and 9 that resemble modern era numerals, more closely those found in modern Nagari and Hindu-Arabic script.]

Shivneri is known to be a place of Buddhist dominion from the 1st century AD. The caves, rock-cut architecture and water system indicate presence of habitation from the 1st century. Shivneri got its name as it was under the possession of the Yadavas of Devagiri. This fort was mainly used to guard the old trading route from Desh to the port city of Kalyan. The place passed on to the hands of Bahami kings after the weakening of Delhi Sultanate during the 15th century. In 1595, Maratha chief Maloji Bhosale, the grandfather of Shivaji, was enabled by Bahami king Bahadur Nizam Shah II and gave him the inter-alia Shivner and Chakan. Chhatrapati Shivaji was born at the fort on 19 February 1630 (some accounts place it 1627), and spent his childhood there. Inside the fort is a small temple dedicated to the goddess Shivai Devi, after whom Shivaji was named. The English traveller Fraze visited the fort in 1673 and found it invincible. According to his accounts the fort was well-stocked to feed thousand families for seven years. He also made a mention that the fort was then governed by a Brahmin turned Muslim. The fort was under the control of the Mughals after the Marathas and Sahu demanded it back in 1716. They regained the fort in 1762 and became a part of Ragunatha Rao. The fort came under the control of the British Rule.

शिवनेरी छत्रपति शिवाजी का जन्मस्थान भी है।शिवाजी के पिता, शाहजी बीजापुर के सुल्तान आदिल शाह की सेना में एक सेनापति थे। लगातार हो रहे युद्ध के कारण शाहजी, अपनी गर्भवती पत्नी जीजाबाई की सुरक्षा को लेकर चिंतित थे, इस लिए उन्होने अपने परिवार को शिवनेरी में भेज दिया। शिवनेरी चारों ओर से खड़ी चट्टानों से घिरा एक अभेद्य गढ़ था।
शिवाजी का जन्म १९ फ़रवरी १६३० को हुआ था और उनका बचपन भी यहीं बीता। इस गढ़ के भीतर माता शिवाई का एक मन्दिर था, जिनके नाम पर शिवाजी का नाम रखा गया

Shivneri Fort, Junnar, Maharashtra (Sakhaldand Trekking Route)
Shivneri fort is the birthplace of the great Maratha warrior, Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He was born on 19th February 1630. Every year Shiv Jayanti celebrations are held atop on 19th February. Maharashtra's chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, had visited the fort to pay respects to Shivaji Maharaj and his mother Jijamata.
There are 2 routes to reach the top. The main route is via 7 large doors which is easy and can take up to two hours. The other route is via Sakhaldand vat (route). It takes about 30-45 minutes from the base. The route is easily accessible but has a steep climb.

Hello friends, this vlog is about a place where so many historical events happen and from all of that. The best part is that it's the birth the place our great maratha King Shivaji Maharaj.
This fort was first home of Buddhist people and later many ruler come and gone. You can see each rulers architecture all over the forts. It was ruled by by Satavahana - Yadavas - Bahamini - Nizam - Mughals - Maratha - Peshwa - British and finally after independence it was given to Indian Government.
I had tried to capture the complete fort via both route in my vlogs and some historical information for your knowledge.
