Huge Wave Explosions! Shore Acres Storm Watching Oregon Coast
Shore Acres State Park is easily the best storm watching spot on the Oregon Coast and may just be one of the best spots in the world! The HUGE waves and resulting spectacular towering fountains of water (200'+) can be seen both north & south from many spots within the park. And, if you are lucky, you may get a glimpse of King Neptune or Poseidon, @1:20 in the video. Watching the waves crash in can be mesmerizing! If this sort of stuff is your cup of tea, 11 minutes is not enough! If you feel that all the waves look the same, skip to 8:00 in the video and watch from there.

Cape Arago Light House/ Sea Lions Coos Bay, Oregon
Cape Arago Light House Coos Bay, Oregon
Starting in the mid-19th century, Coos Bay had become an important shipping point on the west coast of the United States.
The amount of shipping at the time warranted the building of a light at the location, and in 1864, funds were given to build the harbor's light. In 1866, the first light was illuminated. This first tower, which housed a fourth-order Fresnel lens, was nothing more than a 25-foot (7.6 m) octagonal tower with a skeleton base. This tower, located on the west end of an island, was connected to the keeper's residence via a 1,300-foot (400 m) wooden walkway. However, because of its location on the island, the light was greatly exposed to the elements along the Pacific and soon was in need of repairs. Over the next 35 years, much of the station's infrastructure had to be repaired or replaced. Several improvements were also made during this time, including the installation of a fog signal and a new boathouse.
The Cape Arago Light
However, sailor's demands for a better light and the threat of erosion meant the end of the first tower, and in 1909, the second tower was lit. Located higher on the island, the new wooden tower stood 100 feet (30m) tall and provided better illumination. Designed by Carl Leick, the new light was similar in design to Mukilteo Light in the state of Washington. Erosion eventually threatened this light as well, and in 1934, the third light was illuminated.
Containing the second light's fourth-order lens, the third tower was made from concrete to better withstand the inclement weather of the area. This light shared a basic design with Point Robinson Lightin Washington. It was also at this time that the first tower, which still stood, was finally destroyed. The second light fared better. The tower was soon removed and the building was converted into an office.
In 1966, the light was automated. Eventually, in 1993, the Fresnel lens was replaced with a modern lens. The light remained a beacon into Coos Bay for the next 12 years, until its decommissioning on January 1, 2006. Today, only the third light remains standing, all other buildings having since been demolished. The site is not open to the public, and the entire area is fenced off. In 2012–2013 winter, the original wood bridge accessing the light was eroded away by the sea. It is visible between Sunset Bay State Park and Shore Acres State Park, and from #Bastendorff #Beach County Park.
In 1993, the light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Coos Bay, Oregon
Coos Bay (Coos language: Atsixiis) is a city located in Coos County, Oregon, United States, where the Coos River enters Coos Bay on the Pacific Ocean. The city borders the city of North Bend, and together they are often referred to as one entity called either Coos Bay-North Bend or Oregon's Bay Area. Coos Bay's population as of the 2010 census was 15,967 residents, making it the largest city on the Oregon Coast.
Prior to Europeans first visiting the Oregon coast, Native American tribes claimed the Coos Bay region as their homeland for thousands of years. Members of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, Siuslaw and Coquille tribes lived, fished, hunted and gathered along Coos Bay and its estuaries, along rivers, and in meadows and forests. Approximately 400 years ago, British and Spanish explorers first approached the South Coast. In 1579 Sir Francis Drake was purported to have sought shelter for his ship, the Golden Hinde, around Cape Arago. Trader and explorer Jedediah Smith was in the region seeking furs, and the Hudson's Bay Company sent Alexander Roderick McLeod to search for an inland passage.
The earliest settlement of European Americans in the area was in January 1852 when survivors of the Captain Lincoln shipwreck established Camp Castaway until they and their cargo could be fully rescued. There has been a permanent settlement on Coos Bay since 1853, when the town of Marshfield was founded there and named after the Massachusetts hometown of its founder, J. C. Tolman. The first Methodist church in the area was established in 1857. By 1866 the inhabitants, who were reliant on the sea for their income, had built the Cape Arago Light. The setting up of a post office in 1871 and the arrival of the Coos Bay Wagon Road in the town a year later connected Coos County with the Umpqua River valley in neighbouring Douglas County, on the other side of the Coast Range of mo...

Continuing our slow trek up the Oregon coast near the completion of our 2017/18 Snowbird journeys -
In this video, I show you some video clips and photos from our day trip to Cape Arago State Park on the Oregon Coast. I also display some dashcam footage from Sunset Bay SP campground and the Sunset Bay beach.
This is one of the most pristine and rugged sections of the coast and the spring day was just fabulous. Clear blue skies and mild temps. We were able to witness hoards of sea lions on the rocks and islands just offshore.

This Brides's Heritage House Resort Mendocino Destination Wedding Film...CUE TEARS
This Heritage House Resort wedding video was absolutely gorgeous. The wedding florals and scenic ocean overviews made an amazing backdrop for this destination Mendocino wedding.
Craig and Vanessa currently live in the Bay Area and planned the most beautiful wedding celebration at Heritage House Resort&Spa in Mendocino. We love being a part of destination weddings. Destination weddings allow our couples to soak in more than just one day. It gives them a time to celebrate with those they love the entire weekend. Mendocino is along the California coast near Fort Bragg. It was the perfect getaway spot for all of Craig and Vanessa’s family and friends.
Events by CMG did an amazing job putting together the details and stunning wedding decor. We admired how Kimberlee created such a stress free environment for the day. Natasha from Natasha Kolenko designed Vanessa’s dream bouquet that paired perfectly with the coast line. Pretty floral arrangements go a long way for both wedding photos and video and Vanessa’s excellent taste was executed perfectly.
We loved getting to know Craig and Vanessa leading up to the wedding and finally getting to spend the day with them. Vanessa has the most beautiful smile and contagious laugh. Seeing Vanessa walk down the aisle with her dad towards Craig was one of our favorite moments. As Craig held back tears, Vanessa’s dad hugged her and gave her away.
After a cocktail hour break, the indoor reception filled with friends and family who all traveled to be with these two. Speeches at the reception were filled with great stories and admiration for the character they both have. It just goes to show the immense friendship and love that others have for Craig&Vanessa!
Enjoy the highlight film from their beautiful Mendocino coast wedding!
