I made this trip in August, 2015. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera, mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

Fall Colors in Hope Valley, CA 2017 - HD 4K drone video
Hope Valley is one of the better places to see fall colors in the Sierra. Highways 88 and 89 intersect near the north end of the valley.
It is a little early for the full deep color, but I don’t always have the opportunity to travel to this beautiful place. It was a great day with some gusty winds, but the drone performed fairly well in spite of the wind.

GLENBROOK, NEVADA: 210 miles east of San Francisco, 45 miles southwest of Reno, 20 minutes to Incline Village, 9 miles north of Stateline, Nevada. The Pines is located just south of Glenbrook, the site of Lake Tahoe's first shoreline sawmill and the largest lumbering settlement in the 1870's and 80's. On the west side of Highway 50, The Pines is 15 minutes from Carson City and Highway 395, which runs from southern California to the Canadian border. Fifty-five minutes to Virginia City and 20 minutes to the famed Ponderosa Ranch at Incline Village.
NEIGHBORHOOD: The general area, which has approximately 8,100 year-round residents, is managed by Douglas County. The South Lake Tahoe airport is capable of handling both commercial and private air carriers and is conveniently located 30 minutes away; Carson City Airport is 30 minutes, the Reno Tahoe International airport is 55 minutes away. Excellent local shopping, dining and sightseeing; fine public schools and parks within minutes. The tax climate is very favorable: no personal State income tax or inheritance tax and low property taxes.
HISTORY: Originally 26 acres and named Whispering Pines, the property was developed in the mid 1930’s as a summer retreat for the Scripps/Howard Newspaper family. It later sold in the ‘50’s and again in the 70’s, and was home to an old Tahoe family for nearly three decades. Four parcels were divided and The Pines is the result of the two most magnificent parcels on Lake Tahoe’s shores. The Guest House was built in 1996 and the Main Residence built in 1998. Today, The Pines is one of Lake Tahoe’s largest privately held estates and without question, one of the most remarkable.
PROPERTY: Upon entering The Pines you are directed past the caretaker’s house towards the water through magnicently landscaped grounds which include a three hole golf course with practice green, swimming pool and spa, waterfalls, a covered bridge, trout ponds, and gigantic granite outcroppings. There are 2 private buoys and boathouse with 27’ slip, shared pier and wide sand beach. The property consists of a main residence, guest house, second guesthouse or caretaker’s home, detached garage building/current gym and shop. There is room for expansion for an additional three holes of golf or coverage available for a tennis court and sports pavilion. A private recreational beach easement is in place for the two adjoining properties. Water rights consist of 12 acre-feet and a well, which services all three houses at The Pines.
MAIN RESIDENCE: Designed of lateral clear-heart stained redwood accented with dramatic Montana lodge poles, natural stone and granite with a treated wood shake roof. Built in 1998, The Pines is a contemporary two-story mountain-style residence constructed of the finest materials and craftsmanship throughout. The architecture has taken every part of the environment into consideration while achieving a comfortable floor plan for easy day-to-day living. Dramatic multi-level windows showcase Lake Tahoe’s panoramic views and the beautiful Sierra Nevada from almost every room.
THE GUEST HOUSE: The Guest house is a replica of the historic main house at Whispering Pines. Charming in every way, this home is approximately 3,000 square feet and consists of four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The exterior is clear-heart redwood half-rounds. In the great room, the original beams, carved fireplace mantle and wagon wheel light fixture were used, all dating back to 1935. The interior walls and ceilings are knotty pine and the great room overlooks the swimming pool, beach, lake, pier and boathouse. The bedrooms are magnificently decorated and have planter shutters and built-in dressers. Some of the bathroom fixtures are of original vintage. The kitchen has custom Ann Sacks tile, a gas log fireplace, Sub Zero refrigerator, Viking range, Bosch Dishwasher and icemaker and laundry area. French doors lead to the patio with an outdoor fireplace and dining area, which is perfect for entertaining. Distressed 6” plank pine flooring runs throughout. The garage houses the Snow Melt system and Water Treatment center. There is a vacuum system and garage with four parking spaces.
THE SECOND GUEST OR CARETAKER’S HOUSE: Remodeled, this charming two-story home has three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The interior is knotty pine with a wood burning fireplace, white tile kitchen and baths, and wooden blinds. There is a large back yard and a stand up basement. This house is conveniently located by the shop, garage building and main entrance gate.
