TOUR OF SAINT-EMILION
Saint-Emilion is a charming medieval village located in the heart of the famous Bordeaux wine area. In 1999 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is well known for its wineries, delicious Grand-Cru wine and beautiful architecture.
As it is only about 40 minutes’ drive away from Bordeaux, we decided to stop by for few hours to explore the town.
MAIN ATTRACTIONS at a glance:
????MONOLITHIC CHURCH and its BELL TOWER - the largest monolithic church in Europe. You can climb the tower (198 steps) to be rewarded with beautiful views of the village (get the ticket and the keys from the nearby Tourist Office – personally, we only climb the King’s Tower and the views were amazing!)
????KING’S TOWER (La Tour du Roy) - climb the 118 steps to the top for some stunning panoramic views of the town and the surrounding vineyards.
????CORDELIERS CLOISTER - remains of a 14th century monastery and medieval herbal garden, now converted into a wine bar
???? GREAT WALL (Grandes Murailles) - unrestored remains of a XIII century Benedictine monastery that collapsed for the most part
????COLLEGIATE CHURCH and its cloister – imposing Romanesque church with a beautiful 14th century cloister, one of the most impressive in the Gironde region
???? CADENE’S GATE and CADENE’S HOUSE – located on Rue Guadet
????TERTRES – narrow steep cobbled streets
???? PUBLIC WASH HOUSE
????MAISON DU VIN (Wine House) - amazing selection of wines from local wine estates - they also do wine tastings

BORDEAUX BAKERY TOUR - TRAVEL FRANCE
This video is about our city break to Bordeaux and the best things to do in Bordeaux on a budget.
This video is a guide of what to do in Bordeaux 2019. Bordeaux travel guide 2019
It features a French wine tour in Saint-Émilion (a French commune in France).
Bordeaux wine is famous around the world and for good reason. The wine tour was in the top 10 best things to do in Bordeaux
The electric bike wine wine tour was amazing and one of the best things to do in Bordeaux. We caught the train from Bordeaux to Saint-emilion which was very easy and affordable to do on a budget.
We also went on a 20 euro Bordeaux bakery tour of the city where we went to the best bakeries in Bordeaux France - also one of the best things to do when you visit Bordeaux.
We visited in July and there was a heatwave in the city of Bordeaux. The Bordeaux weather was extremely hot and sunny.
Flights from London to Bordeaux (or just flight to Bordeaux airport in general) are very reasonable with easyjet. You can also get the train to Bordeaux from London or from Paris.
We stayed in an airbnb in Bordeaux and it was reasonably priced and very comfortable. But there are lots of hotel Bordeaux, which are also available in the city.
We also rode around the city on bird electric scooters and visited the Darwin project in Bordeaux (a must see attraction in Bordeaux)

Places to see in ( Bordeaux - France )
Places to see in ( Bordeaux - France )
Bordeaux, hub of the famed wine-growing region, is a port city on the Garonne River in southwestern France. It’s known for its Gothic Cathédrale Saint-André, 18th- to 19th-century mansions and notable art museums such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux. Public gardens line the curving river quays. The grand Place de la Bourse, centered on the Three Graces fountain, overlooks the Miroir d’Eau reflecting pool.
The city of Bordeaux is among France's most exciting, vibrant and dynamic cities. In the last decade and a half, it's shed its languid, Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty) image thanks to the vision of city mayor Alain Juppé who has pedestrianised boulevards, restored neoclassical architecture, created a high-tech public transport system and reclaimed Bordeaux's former industrial wet docks at Bassin à Flots. Half the city (18 sq km) is Unesco-listed, making it the largest urban World Heritage site; while world-class architects have designed a bevy of striking new buildings – the Herzog & de Meuron stadium (2015), decanter-shaped La Cité du Vin (2016) and Jean-Jacques Bosc bridge (2018) across the Garonne River included.
Bordeaux is often referred to as Little Paris and the rivalry between the Bordelais (people from Bordeaux) and Parisiens is a hot subject, so you may experience some heated arguments on the subject during your stay. Bordeaux is a flat city, built on the banks of the Garonne River. It is also the largest French city by area and geographically one of the largest in Europe. The Garonne merges a dozen kilometers below the city with another river, the Dordogne River to form the Gironde Estuary, which is biggest estuary in France..
Bordeaux is a historic city with many tourist attractions. The main districts are briefly presented here, which are listed according to their distance from the railway station. Les Quais— Great for going for a nice walk on the shores of the Garonne, enjoying a ride on a ferry boat, viewing a stunning landscape over the bridges of Bordeaux, or dancing the night away in the city's many nightclubs. The Aquitaine Bridge is an architectural achievement unique in France. The Jacques-Chaban-Delmas lift bridge ; located between the Quais and the Aquitaine bridge. Opened in 2013, it features a liftable deck, which goes up to 53 meters (170 ft), to enable cruise ships and historical sailboats to dock close to the Quinconces Square.
La Victoire— Historical monuments meet student life and bars.
The Pedestrian Center — If you plan on shopping, or are looking for cultural activities, Bordeaux has a lot to offer - and it starts right here. Gambetta Square — The rich districts of Bordeaux start north - this part of the town is nicknamed Little Paris. Quinconces Square — Be sure to check out the fountain monument to the Girondins, a group of moderate, bourgeois National Assembly deputies during the French Revolution.
Meriadeck — The administrative center of Bordeaux, with one of the biggest libraries in France. Do not miss the Victory Arch (Roman architecture), at the center of La Victoire and a great example of the town's Roman roots. Relax and take a picnic in the lush Public Gardens, north of Gambetta square. The Girondins memorial on the Quinconces square is a fitting tribute to the Members of Parliament from Gironde who were guillotined by Robespierre.
Musee D'Art Contemporain at 7, rue Ferrère. Definitely worth a visit if you are interested in Modern Art. Musee D'Aquitaine, 20, cours Pasteur. Stunning museum that exhibits Gallo-Roman statues and relics dating back 25,000 years. Musee national des douanes (Customs National Museum), 1 place de la Bourse. 10AM - 6PM.Tue-Sun. a historical museum of the french customs administration.

PerryGolf is thrilled to offer The Best of Southwest France Escorted Tour, a fully managed fixed itinerary featuring 11-nights and 5 rounds exploring the Bordeaux and Biarritz, where gastronomic, cultural and scenic pleasures abound. Taste wine at Château du Tertre, take guided tours of Bordeaux, Perigord and Arcachon Bay, enjoy lunch at La Corniche. The golf is equally outstanding, on five diverse courses, including St. Emilion, a recent creation from renowned American architect Tom Doak.
Bordeaux and Biarritz regions are located in the southwest of France, a region known for its rich gastronomy as well as the exceptional wines produced in the Bordeaux region. From the Gironde estuary, a long straight coast, except for the notch formed by the basin of Arcachon, extends towards the south. It is the Landes de Gascogne with miles of beaches lined by a vast pine forest. A rugged terrain begins to emerge in the south in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, where Biarritz and Bayonne are the main cities of Basque Country, a territory with strong identity. To the northwest, the Perigord and its forests are full of castles, villages and prehistoric sites like the cave of Lascaux. To the south the Lot et Garonne is dedicated to rural tourism.
In Bordeaux, savor the region’s renowned wines on a visit to Château Pichon Longueville; enjoy a guided tour of the city, rich with 2,000 years of history; discover Vinotherapy which blends hot natural water with the enhancing property of grapes for a revolutionary skin care treatment;
Following our short drive to Biarritz, take a guided tour of The Bassin d'Arcachon (Arcachon Bay), a beautiful nature preserve; explore the city’s fashion boutiques and shopping district; enjoy a tapas tour of San Sebastian. Farther south, relax in a prestige room at Château des Vigiers, a magnificent castle dating back to 1597 located in the beautiful countryside near Bergerac; enjoy dinner at Moutier Thenac, a 19th century farmhouse converted to a traditional restaurant serving local cuisine.
The golf on our Tour includes courses that appeal to golfers of all skill levels. Medoc les Châteaux, a former host course on the European Tour, is carved from the tradition of Scottish links. Golf D'Arcangues is a short but demanding layout (140 slope) offering panoramic views of the Pyrenees mountains. Biarritz Le Phare was designed in the British tradition, borders the Atlantic Ocean and is the second oldest golf course built in France. Château des Vigiers is a relaxing Donald Steel layout winding around the grounds of the castle. Saint Emilion is the gem of the tour. Designed by Tom Doak (Pacific Dunes, Cape Kidnappers), the course flows and unfolds through a valley on undisturbed ground.
If you enjoy combining your love of golf with a passion for travel, you’ll find a relaxing and highly rewarding experience on this Escorted Tour for a party of 24-30. Every aspect is fully managed from the handling of your luggage and equipment to hotel and golf course check ins. Various meals, guided sightseeing, carts / caddies, local taxes, service charges and gratuities (excluding caddies) are included in addition to sandwiches, snacks plus an open bar for beer and wine during our time at each of the golf courses. Best of all, this PerryGolf vacation promises an ideal opportunity to join a group of like-minded new friends.

Luxury All-Inclusive French River Cruises From Scenic
France is a country steeped in history and culture, and here Scenic has created three river cruises of unparalleled beauty. Each cruise is through a uique area, and there is simply not better way to explore France than on our very own Scenic Space-Ships.
What makes cruising France with Scenic so exceptional is the five star all-inclusive luxury available; your meals, beverages, shore excursions and activities, tipping and gratuities, are all included, as well as wifi internet, and your very own private butler.
Find out more about our French river cruises here:
Tour of the Famous Saint-Émilion, France
Tour of the famous St-Emilion, a UNESCO World Heritage site and centre of the best-known Bordeaux appellations. Then on to Château Beau-Sejour-Becot, producer of premier and grand crus wines, for a tour and tasting.
Bordeaux, with 247,000 acres, is a wine-producing area three times the size of Burgundy. Bordeaux is the largest fine wine-making region in the world, as well as the most legendary. More than half the fine wines of the world come from France and about half of these are from Bordeaux.
Although the reputation is built mostly on red wines, especially those from the Médoc, St-Èmilion and Pomerol districts, the region produces the entire gamut of wines, including dry and sweet whites, and rosés.
What is hotel barging?
Despite the growing popularity of cruising, especially on large river vessels, hotel barging is still a little known niche concept. Most hotel barges started life as cargo vessels but have since been painstakingly converted to offer luxury boutique accommodation for small groups of up to 20 passengers.
This is cruising, but in a very different style to ships plying the big rivers or oceans. The pace is slow, with a 6 day cruise covering maybe just 50 miles along a rural canal. Passengers can walk or bike the towpaths as their floating hotel glides gently along. Guests enjoy an intimate atmosphere, high levels of personal service and immersion into the culture, history and gastronomy of regions of Europe such as Burgundy, the Midi, or the Italian Veneto.
Every day there is an excursion, perhaps to a chateau, a vineyard for a wine tasting, or some other ‘off the beaten track’ location. About half of European Waterways’ bookings are for whole boat charters, ideal for families. Otherwise, clients book a cabin to join other like-minded people. A ‘slow boat’ European Waterways barge cruise offers the ultimate in experiential travel. A truly unique experience!
European Waterways offer luxury hotel barge cruises on the beautiful canals and rivers of Europe, such as through Burgundy, the Midi, Alsace, the Po Valley, Holland and the Scottish Highlands.
The exclusive collection of hotel barges accommodate up to 20 passengers who may charter a whole barge with family or friends, or join a small group of like-minded travellers on an individual cabin basis.
Each barge is fully crewed with a Captain, chef, hostesses, deck-hand and tour guide. The 6-night cruises include gourmet meals, fine wines, open bar, excursions and the use of facilities such as bicycles and spa pools.

Saint-Émilion – Day trip from Bordeaux, France
Saint-Émilion is a small town surrounded by a beautiful wine growing region. The town is an easy train journey from Bordeaux and makes for an ideal day trip. Visit for more.
Bordeaux Saint Émilion Wine Tour
Bordeaux Saint Émilion Wine Tour
We got a bus from San Sebastian to Biarritz Airport, then we hired a car and drove to Bordeaux from there. (Although our car rental was expensive this was still cheaper than hiring a car from Spain and returning it in France)
We stayed 2 nights in an Airbnb in Bordeaux and did a full day wine tour with Rustic Vines. We did our tour though the beautiful region of Saint Émilion.
Our tour included visiting 2 Chalets, a Merchant shop and lunch in the Saint Émilion town. All wine tasting was included and they did not pressure you to purchase any wine while on the tour.
Throughout the tour they would teach you they whole process of the production of wine from the types of soil for growing the grapes right through to how long they store the wine in barrels before it is bottled and sold.
Hope you enjoy this video =)
