1945 WWII ETO COMBAT BULLETIN #3 BRITISH 2nd ARMY in HOLLAND ITALIAN CAMPAIGN 30584
This 1945 black-and-white combat bulletin highlighting the European Theater of Operations has multiple segments. A formation of Douglas DC-3 (Dakota in the RAF) flies over Belgium. A damaged plane slowly descends and crashes; it’s crew parachuting down. Tanks pass over bridges. The convoy approaches Nijmegan, Netherlands. The bridge over the Waal River remains intact as British engineers remove the charges Germans left behind (:15-2:31). British and American air forces in North Africa plan bombing Rome. Circles are drawn on city maps to designate churches and holy places to avoid bombing. Footage is shown of the bombs being dropped (2:32-4:25). President Roosevelt demands unconditional surrender (4:26-4:58). Cassino, Italy is shown from above. An animated map shows the movement of troops. The Attenzione! Leaflets, warning the locals to evacuate, are sealed into cartridges and shot from 105 howitzers. Douglas A-20 Havoc and other bombers depart. Footage shows the bombing (4:59-8:27). Stop action animation on maps show the advancement of troops, followed by live footage. A 240 howitzer is craned into place. Sound plotting equipment is placed in dug holes. Receiving stations will plot any sounds of gunfire and locate their positions. B-24s and B-17s drop bombs. The Nazi return fire flashes on the hillside (8:28-13:09). The New York World Telegram headline says “Big Drive On In Italy.” A tank sets fires. Live footage from a gun camera shows the ground results on enemy planes, trains, and buildings. Multiple planes are shown being shot down (13:10-17:21). U.S. troops construct a floating bridge over the Seine. French General Philippe Leclerc rounds up German occupation forces who surrendered. The scared faces of the German soldiers are shown (17:22-19:11). General Charles de Gaulle places flowers on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe and approaches the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Snipers fire from different locations. The crowd runs in panic and crouches in the street. The troops fire back. Civilian wounded are carried on stretchers. General Eisenhower speaks with Sir Arthur Tedder and Lieutenant General Omar Bradley in Paris. American troops march through liberated Paris (19:12 -21:52). The 79th Fighter Group at Capodichino Airfield, Italy listen to an officer who explained the battle on giant maps. Stop action animation shows this. While he speaks, actual footage is interspersed that shows what he’s talking about, including troops on the move and loaded into boats in various military vehicles. Troops board ships. Foot troops march single file through cities (22:53-27:36). Footage is shown from the gun camera as the plane strafes the ground. Allied anti-aircraft guns shoot at enemy planes. Night footage shows the gun fire action as bright lights (27:37-28:47). President Roosevelt is shown onboard at the Suez Canal. He individually meets with Egyptian King Farouk, Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie, and Saudi Arabian King Saud (28:48-31:27). RAF Coastal Command Bullfighters and Mosquitoes strafe German ships and ground targets, as shown from the gunner’s POV. Bombs are dropped and explode below. A captured German pillbox and cross-channel gun position with its 305 millimeter gun are shown (31:28-34:58).

Manchester United: 11 record-breaking international Reds
Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku secured himself a place in football history on Tuesday as he became Belgium's all-time leading scorer, by netting the winner against Japan in Bruges. Here, ManUtd.com takes a look at the current and former Reds stars who also hold the goalscoring record for their nation. United's midfield maestro broke his nation's goalscoring record in 2013, when he netted in a 2-2 World Cup qualifying draw with Italy, to surpass Arthur Petrosyan's previous record of 11 goals.Mkhitaryan now captains Armenia and recently netted in friendly wins over Belarus and Cyprus, to take his international tally to 25.Lukaku's goal in the 1-0 friendly win over Japan made it three strikes in this international break alone, after he netted a fine double in the 3-3 draw with Mexico last week. The Antwerp-born front man's brace in Brussels took him level with Bernard Voorhoof and Paul van Himst on 30 goals, before his header against Japan took his tally to 31.But his new status is disputed by FIFA, who nullified a 2014 friendly between Belgium and Luxembourg in which he hit a hat-trick because the Rode Duivels made seven substitutions – one more than the permitted six.It also meant ex-Reds winger Adnan Januzaj's debut for his country was wiped from FIFA's records. The languid and stylish striker netted 56 goals in 149 league and cup games during a four-year spell at United before leaving for Fulham in 2012.And his record on the international stage was even more impressive.Berbatov's 48 goals in 78 caps marks an impressive return for a player who played in just one major tournament (Euro 2004), and he tops his nation's goalscoring charts alongside Hristo Bonev, who represented Bulgaria between 1967 and 1979.The Monaco striker, who plied his trade at Old Trafford in the 2014/15 season, became his nation's leading scorer with a bullet header in a 2-2 friendly draw with Spain earlier this year. That goal was Falcao's 26th for his nation, taking him above Arnoldo Iguaran's tally of 25.The former Chelsea man has since taken the Colombia captaincy and he netted twice in their final four qualifiers to help Jose Pekerman's side secure a spot at the World Cup finals in Russia.Rooney became United's all-time leading scorer last season as his free-kick against Stoke City took him to 250 goals for the club, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton's previous record. However, the powerful forward also holds the illustrious record of being England's most deadly marksman, having scored 53 goals in 119 games before his international retirement in August this year.He also the Three Lions' most-capped outfield player, second only to Peter Shilton in the all-time list.Chicharito enamoured himself to the United faithful during his five-year stint at Old Trafford between 2010 and 2015, in which he bagged 59 goals in 158 appearances across all competitions.Hernandez has been prolific for his country throughout his career; however, he only surpassed Jared Borgetti's record of 46

Leopold I of Belgium
Leopold I was a German prince who became the first King of the Belgians following Belgian independence in 1830. He reigned between July 1831 and December 1865. He established the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to which all subsequent Belgian kings have belonged.
Born into the ruling family of the small German duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, Leopold took a commission in the Imperial Russian Army and fought against Napoleon after French troops overran Saxe-Coburg during the Napoleonic Wars. After Napoleon's defeat, Leopold moved to the United Kingdom where he married Princess Charlotte of Wales, the only child of the Prince Regent, thus situating himself as a possible future prince consort of Great Britain. Charlotte died in 1817, although Leopold continued to enjoy considerable status in England.
