4K HD Los Angeles Driving: Sunset Boulevard
Driving on the infamous Sunset Boulevard ironically on a minimally sunny day in none other than Los Angeles.
I wanted to pick back up my 4K UHD driving videos. This time I chose Sunset Boulevard, starting at the point pretty close to my current apartment. I start you off in West Hollywood at the one and only Sunset Strip, then we move into the lush Beverly Hills Flats. Just when you think it couldn’t be a wealthier area, we move into Hombly Hills within Beverly Hills and skirt right past Bel-Air. Finally finishing off at Westwood and I’m cutting the video short before it gets into Brentwood and finally the Palisades.
Honestly Sunset is of my favorite streets to drive on in LA and I take it home from work every single day. I’m just showing you an unedited glimpse of a random drive I did today on MLK weekend because there’s less traffic so you can see the street without a million red lights.
Think of this video as positive energy I’m putting out into the YouTube world to counteract all of my bad drivers videos. I really do love LA and was to spotlight it better. This is more ASMR relaxing vibes and if you’re looking for crazy driving literally watch any other video I’ve posted. Why it’s so shaky I honestly don’t know and if you tell how to fix it I will venmo you $5.
Now for some facts on Sunset Boulevard from wiki.
Sunset Boulevard is a boulevard in the central and western part of Los Angeles, California that stretches from the Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades east to Figueroa Street in Downtown Los Angeles. It is a major thoroughfare in the cities of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood (including a portion known as the Sunset Strip), as well as several districts in Los Angeles. Approximately 22 miles (35 km) in length the boulevard roughly traces the arc of mountains that form part of the northern boundary of the Los Angeles Basin, following the path of a 1780s cattle trail from the Pueblo de Los Angeles to the ocean.
The boulevard has curvaceous winding stretches, and can be treacherous for unalert drivers in some sections. Sunset Boulevard is at least four lanes wide along its entire route. Sunset is frequently congested with traffic loads beyond its design capacity.
The Sunset Strip portion of Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood has been famous for its active nightlife since at least the 1950s.
In contrast to other American cities where it referred to a concentration of radio retailers, in Los Angeles, Radio Row was understood in the 1940s-1950s as the area around the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, where the broadcasting facilities of all four major radio networks were located.
In the 1970s, the area between Gardner Street and Western Avenue was a center for street prostitution. Shortly after a much publicized incident in late June 1995, police raids drove out the majority of prostitutes on the Boulevard.
The portion of Sunset Boulevard that passes through Beverly Hills was once named Beverly Boulevard.
The boulevard is commemorated in Billy Wilder's film Sunset Boulevard (1950), the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of the same name, and the 1950s television series 77 Sunset Strip. Jan and Dean's 1960s hit song Dead Man's Curve refers to a section of the road near Bel Air estates just north of UCLA's Drake Stadium where Jan Berry almost died in an automobile accident in 1966. The Buffalo Springfield song For What It's Worth was written about a riot at Pandora's Box, a Sunset Strip club, in 1966.

Los Angeles Road Trip (Malibu, E.T. house, Griffith Observatory, Sunset Blvd.)
I hope you enjoy my road trip video as much I did making it. Starting with the Pacific Coast Highway, we visit the stunning El Matador Beach in Malibu California. The opening scenes from Grease were filmed here.
Then we drive through Hollywood, including Sunset Blvd. Next up is the Griffith Observatory, location for many film scenes and a great spot for views of Los Angeles.
You'll see the famous Laurel Canyon, home to many musicians (Joni Mitchell, Jim Morrison, Buffalo Springfield, Frank Zappa, Mick Fleetwood etc). The Canyon Country Store was immortalised in The Door's song Love Street. I see you live on Love Street, there's this store where the creatures meet. Morrison lived in a home behind the store, and Mama Cass once lived in the store basement.
Read about it here
Next is a quick visit to the old offices of Hanna-Barbera, who created a huge amount of successful cartoons. Scooby Doo, Wacky Races, Top Cat, The Banana Splits just to name a few. Some great childhood memories!
Then a visit to the E.T. house in Tujunga. This home was integral to the movie, and hasn't changed a great deal. It does look a little smaller in person though compared to on screen.
Finally the trip ends on a visit to Universal Studios Citywalk. There's plenty of entertainment here and entry is free.
That's it. Enjoy the video and thanks to The Dandy Warhols for a perfect soundtrack.

Planes, Trains, & Autos (Sometimes Buses) (Ep. 10 ):Driving Sunset Blvd (End to End)
Approximately 22 miles (35 km) in length, the Sunset Blvd roughly traces the arc of mountains that form part of the northern boundary of the Los Angeles Basin, following the path of a 1780s cattle trail from the Pueblo de Los Angeles to the ocean.
From Downtown Los Angeles, it heads northwest, to Hollywood, through which it travels due west for several miles before it bends southwest towards the ocean. It passes through or near Echo Park, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Holmby Hills. In Bel-Air, Sunset Boulevard runs along the northern boundary of UCLA's Westwood campus. The boulevard continues through Brentwood to Pacific Palisades where it terminates at the Pacific Coast Highway intersection.
The boulevard has curvaceous winding stretches, and can be treacherous for unaware drivers in some sections. It is at least four lanes wide along its entire route. Sunset is frequently congested with traffic loads beyond its design capacity.
Sunset Boulevard historically extended farther east than it now does, starting at Alameda Street near Union Station and beside Olvera Street in the historic section of Downtown. The portion of Sunset Boulevard east of Figueroa Street was renamed Cesar Chavez Avenue[1] in 1994 along with Macy Street and Brooklyn Avenue in honor of the late Mexican-American union leader and civil rights activist.

The Savages (Venice's Oakwood Area in the 1960's)
This is a documentary, created by Alan Gorg, about the African American section of Venice California known today as the Oakwood Area, but in earlier years as Ghost Town. Created in 1967, this documentary focuses on the struggles of Venice's younger generation during the 1960's.
*I have edited in some pictures, music (by David Cash) and information (taken from the internet) about Venice's Oakwood Area since the making of this documentary.
History of Los Angeles' African-American neighborhoods west of the 405 (the Far Westside):
My family has been apart of the historically black neighborhoods west of the 405 since the 1950's. In early Los Angeles, Venice's Oakwood Area, Santa Monica's Pico Neighborhood and the Culver City addressed Mar Vista Gardens Housing Projects were the only areas where blacks could live and/or own homes outside of Watts and within a few miles from the beaches.
- Santa Monica's Pico Neighborhood:
Before the 1960s, the neighborhood was much larger and was an important African-American enclave on the Westside, but when the Santa Monica Freeway opened in the 1960s, it resulted in the destruction of many residences and the relocation of a large number of families. Its boundaries are Lincoln Blvd to the west, Centinela Ave to the east, Olympic Ave to the north and Pico Blvd to the south.
- Mar Vista Gardens Housing Projects:
Built around the 1940's or early 1950's, Mar Vista Gardens is a 62 building, 601 unit housing project in the Del Rey district of southwestern Los Angeles, California, bordering Ballona Creek and situated near Culver City, California. It is operated by the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles. The complex was given the name of neighboring city of Mar Vista and the mailing address of near by Culver City but is officially apart of the city of Los Angeles. It is the westernmost large housing project in the HACLA system.
- Venice's Oakwood Area:
The Oakwood portion of Venice is a 1.1 square mile area. Its bounderies are Rose Ave to the north, California Ave to the south, Lincoln Blvd to the east and Abbott Kinney Blvd to the west. The area lies inland from the tourist areas and is one of the few historically African American areas in West Los Angeles. During the age of restrictive covenants that enforced racial segregation, Oakwood was set aside as a settlement area for blacks, who came by the hundreds to Venice to work in the oil fields during the 1930s and 1940's. After the construction of the San Diego Freeway (405), which passed through predominantly Mexican American and immigrant communities, those groups moved further west and into Oakwood where black residents were already established. Whites moved into Oakwood during the 1980s and 1990's.
