Russia: 'Secret spy room' unearthed by archaeologists beneath Moscow street
Russian archaeologists unearthed a 'secret spy room' dating back to the 16th century, beneath a street in Moscow's central Lubyanka district on Friday.
The discovery of the small underground chamber was made during ongoing construction work in the neighbourhood. Archaeologists believe the room was originally built underneath Moscow’s former Kitay-gorod Wall and allowed soldiers to listen to conversations happening nearby.

Video: Russian troops fire warning shots as Ukrainian military march towards Crimea air base
Russian forces fired warning shots in to the air as ranks of unarmed Ukrainian soldiers marched towards them at Belbek air base in Crimea on Tuesday (March 4).
Russian troops backed by armoured personnel carriers took over Belbek military airport near the port of Sevastopol last Friday (February 28). Russia's Black Sea fleet is based in Sevastopol.
On Tuesday a column of Ukrainian soldiers marched towards the Russian forces while chanting and carrying the Ukrainian flag. As they approached the line of armed Russian soldiers and military vehicles guarding the base, the Russian forces fired warning shots into the air and warned them not to approach any further.
Once the Ukrainian soldiers reached the line of Russian forces, the Ukrainian and Russian commanders spoke as armed Russian soldiers surrounded them. There were no incidents.

Why Russians and pro-Russians in Crimea fear new government in Kiev
Alexandra Rubel remembers the war.
Sometimes far too clearly. But, at over 80-years-old, she remembers, especially the friends and relatives who didn't survive.
A lot of people died during the war. In my aunt's family three men died in one house - two sons and a husband, she reminisces.
Why war? We do not need war. We should not wage war. We should live in peace and friendship.
Rubel walks slowly in downtown Simferopol with mixed feelings about what is happening in the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea.
At first, I did not understand what was happening when I saw the Russian soldiers. Then lots of people thought they were here to protect us.'' But protect us from what? she asks.
She tells how her husband, who was Ukrainian but born in Russia, passed away.
I don't know how it happened but Russia and Ukraine had a good relationship. But now things have changed. Maybe for us it is better to be separated now.
Fear runs deep in Crimea and many locals deeply distrust the new Ukrainian government in Kiev.
If some Crimean Russians are quietly angry at the soldiers' presence, more see them as protectors from a government that, they will tell you, is ready to crush some of its own people.
Ukraine is facing a potentially crippling geographic and cultural divide, a growing gulf between supporters of Russia, who dominate the east and south of the country, and western Ukrainians who yearn for closer ties to western Europe.
One side of that divide is even starker in Crimea, a Black Sea peninsula long craved and cherished by Russia for its strategic location and warm weather.
For much of the past 200 years, Crimea was under Russian and Soviet control.
But the future of this strategic region is very unclear.

Russia: North Crimean Canal closure chokes water supply
Ukraine has closed sluices of the North Crimean Canal, halting water supplies from the Dnieper River to the peninsula and leaving water levels extremely low Saturday. The speed of water flowing has been measured at roughly four cubic metres per second, while demand is estimated at 80 cubic metres per second.
The water coming through the North Crimean Canal is used mostly for agriculture. Vineyards, rice plantations and fruit gardens are said to be most vulnerable to water shortages in the region.
The North Crimean Canal was built between 1961 and 1971 and has multiple branches. The canal starts from the Kakhovka Reservoir, located on the Dnieper River in Ukraine, and stretches towards of the city of Kerch on the east coast of Crimea.

2014 Russian military intervention in Ukraine
Following the events of the 2014 Ukrainian Revolution, a secession crisis began on Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula. In late February 2014, unmarked armed forces began to take over the Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine. Experts identified the gunmen to be Russian Special Forces and other paramilitaries. Russia at the time insisted that the forces did not include Russian troops stationed in the area, but only local self-defense forces. The local population and the media referred to them as martians or little green men. On 17 April, Russian president Vladimir Putin admitted that Russian troops were in fact active in Crimea during the referendum, claiming this facilitated self-determination for the region.
Russia has rejected the legitimacy of the interim Ukrainian government in favor of ousted-President Viktor Yanukovych, whose request for intervention has also been cited. Russia has accused the United States and the European Union of funding and directing the Ukrainian revolution.

George Galloway: EU is locked in a crazy policy of aggression against Russia
When it comes to economic sanctions there are no winners... A reality that's becoming increasingly clear in Europe, where several member states are taking a financial hit from trade restrictions against Russia. This week we heard from German, French and Czech officials - saying they'd prefer the sanctions to be scrapped. For more on this, let's go live to the British MP George Galloway.

Russia: 'Hero of Arsenal' vessel sinks in Black Sea
The dry-cargo vessel, named 'Hero of Arsenal' sank in the Black Sea, near the Kerch Strait, Wednesday.
Igor Kulakov, chief engineer of the search and rescue operations department of the Russian Navy (Russian): Some kind of local destruction could happen because the hull was weak. It could be weakened by corrosion wear. Such disruptions could occur during a shock wave, including the shift of the cargo. The cargo was grain. Then, of course, if there was no separation, then it could be poured on one side during pitching and it gave a big roll, as a result of which an intensive flow of water entered into the hull, which led to the actual sinking of the vessel.

Autumn 1944. Even though the Red Army is at the Reich’s door, Germany is refusing to accept defeat, and their only hope of victory is to physically eliminate the Allied leaders. But before he dies, he manages to tell the SMERSH Colonel that he is an enemy saboteur heading for a meeting with a German agent at a military safe-house.
His confession prompts immediate action by Russian Counter-Intelligence as General Polunochenko reports the emergency to General Headquarters in Moscow. A Commissioner arrives from Moscow and informs General Polunochenko that Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill are scheduled to meet in Yalta in early 1945. It becomes clear that a subversive military group is trying to wreck the Allies’ negotiations.

Travel to Sochi, Russia (2018 vlog) | SO NICE!
Travel to Sochi (Russia 2018 vlog) | One of the best things to do in Russia is to explore new cities. Sochi is among the top Russian Beach Resorts. Located by the Black Sea, here you can enjoy the beach and ski in the same day, as the Caucasus mountains are a short drive. This trip to Sochi, Russia, was on business; hence I couldn't create a longer Sochi video detailing what to do and where to go. But I learned a lot about this city with many lovely new Russian friends! Enjoy!
