New England Trip 2014: Sleepy Hollow, NY
It's alright, we're tourists.
Two cousins travel the country, this time through the New England area. We started in South Carolina, drove north to Maine, headed west to Ohio, then made it back home. We covered fifteen states in nine days for this road trip.
This stop: Sleepy Hollow
We tried to investigate the myth of the headless horseman, unfortunately the church grounds were closed.

Who's Buried in the Ithaca City Cemetery?

Famous Cemetery Series: Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia
Hollywood Cemetery is a very important historic cemetery. It is one of only three cemeteries to have the tombs of more than one US Presidents (United First Parish Church & Arlington National Cemetery). Buried here are President James Monroe and John Tyler. It is also the burial place for the only Confederate States President, Jefferson Davis, Confederate generals, and 18,000 Confederate soldiers. The list of of notable residents of the cemetery is long. It is truly a historic place.

Hollywood cemetery is located on the rolling hills overlooking the James River.
It was designed by John Notman in the 1840's. Notman is also the architect of Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia.
The cemetery is the resting place of two United States Presidents, James Monroe and John Tyler, the Confederate States President, Jefferson Davis, and six Virginia Governors.
It is also an arboretum with over 2,000 trees.
This is the Presidential Circle where President James Monroe and John Tyler were laid to rest.

President John Tyler's tomb.
Tomb of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America.
18,000 Confederate soliders were also buried here.
This 90-foot pyramid memorial is dedicated to those confederate soldiers.
Visitors will find some unusual tombstones in Hollywood.
The obelisk was a far more popular choice reflecting the Victorian preference of the late 1800's.
Hollywood Cemetery is a unique place for visitors to experience American history and enjoy nature.

Strange New York - Jones Cemetery, West Fulton, New York
During our travels we come across many cemeteries and we always take some time to investigate them. We decided to film these explorations and add them to the Strange New York playlist.
Jones Cemetery is located on the mountain just outside West Fulton, New York. The trail-head is on Rossman Hill Road at the Looking Glass Parking area. The loop trail that surrounds the pond is just down toward the pond from the parking area. Once on the trail follow it until you see the sign for Jones Cemetery, its located is a tall pine stand. The cemetery is a short walk up the trail. Enjoy.

STORYLINE:
A 54-acre cemetery in Lima, one of Latin America's oldest, offers moonlit night visits of its crypts, mausoleums and graves.
Over 10,000 people have visited the Presbyter Matas Maestro since it first began offering the tour in 2002, according to the Charity.
The cemetery is just 20 blocks from Lima's presidential palace.
Visitors attend a three-hour nighttime guided tour run by the cemetery's owner, Beneficiencia de Lima, a charity administered by the city.
Artistic performances create an atmosphere of suspense at the main entrance of the cemetery Presbyter Matas Maestro, which opened in May 31st, 1808.
The cemetery is owned by a charity and does not receive state support, so nocturnal visits are becoming the main source of income to take care of the grounds, said a spokeswoman for the charity.
