Fall in the Smoky Mountains: Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Tennessee
One of the most popular times to visit the Great Smoky Mountains is in the fall, especially October, the peak season for fall foliage, when the Great Smoky Mountains National Park comes alive with a brilliant blaze of red, orange and yellow leaves, as well as fresh, cool mountain air. Some of the best fall colors can be viewed along Newfound Gap Road, the scenic 32-mile stretch of U.S. 441 that winds the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to Cherokee, North Carolina.
There are many festivals and special events that also take place throughout the Smoky Mountains during the autumn months. For example, the Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival (through the end of October) features live entertainment, old-fashioned hayrides, local crafts and more. Dollywood's Southern Gospel & Harvest Celebration (through October 29, 2011) offers the best in Southern gospel music, along with the talents of more than 100 craftspeople. Named as one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeastern United States by the Southeast Tourism Society, the 36th-annual Gatlinburg Craftsmen's Fair (October 6-23, 2011) boasts more than 200 talented artists and craftspeople in the areas of pottery, woodworking, broom making, stained glass, basket making and more.
In addition; fall is the perfect time to drive through the 8-5-mile loop that comprises the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community, which contains numerous studios, shops and galleries. Founded in 1937, the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community has evolved into the country's largest organization of independent artisans. Mountain crafts that can be purchased here include woodcarving, pottery, quilting, painting, weaving, candle making, broom making and more. The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community lies just 3 miles outside of downtown Gatlinburg on U.S. 321 North.
With great weather, brilliant fall foliage and an abundance of lively festivals the Great Smoky Mountains provide the perfect fall vacation destination. With Cabin Fever Vacations travels can choose from a multitude of luxury log cabins and lodges convenient to downtown Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, Wears Valley and the Great Smoky Mountains.

Hello art-family!
This is just a fun video compiling a weekend trip to Gatlinburg, TN. I went last weekend with my kids and had a great time. My parents used to take me every year and it was fun to take my kids to ride some of the kinda carnival-type rides I used to ride when I was a kid that are still there and running. Beautiful countryside, which I actually appreciated as an adult. That and the moonshine ;)
Happy sketching,
Jared

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge - Holiday Inn WATERPARK and WonderWorks
Welcome to Gatlinburg, Tennessee! We thought we were going to a quaint little country town, so Gatlinburg was quite a surprise. When we rolled in, it reminded us of a tiny, country-themed Las Vegas, up in the mountains, with no gambling. We’ve never seen anything like it!
We spent the first night and morning in our hotel because our hotel had it’s own WATERPARK inside of it!! In case you’re wondering, it’s the Holiday Inn Express in Gatlinburg. It was awesome. It also had an activity room for kids with tons of toys and crafts and two people working there to play with your kids. You have to stay there with them though, no dropping them off... Still - with a baby, toddler, and preschooler, just having an extra child-friendly place to hang out is a huge bonus! It was my favorite hotel experience of our whole trip!!
We finally left the hotel at 7pm and stroll to downtown Gatlinburg for dinner. We ventured off the beaten path to Tom and Earl's Back Alley Grill. Then we walked around to decide which circle will be our icon for Gatlinburg.
The next day we drove over to Pigeon Forge to visit WonderWorks, an upside down house full of freaky experiences and curiosities! We see now why people call Gatlinburg quaint compared to Pigeon Forge. Pigeon Forge is sprawling and full of giant, competing tourist attractions and landmarks.

GATLINBURG TN WALKTHROUGH
Gatlinburg is a mountain resort city in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. It is located 39 miles southeast of Knoxville and had a population of 3,944 at the 2010 Census and an estimated U.S. Census population of 4,144 in 2018. It is a popular vacation resort, as it rests on the border of Great Smoky Mountains National Park along U.S. Route 441, which connects to Cherokee, North Carolina, on the southeast side of the national park. Prior to incorporation, the town was known as White Oak Flats, or just simply White Oak.
Bordering Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg is an important tourist destination in Tennessee, with many man-made attractions. Ober Gatlinburg is the only ski resort in the state. It has eight ski trails, three chair lifts, and a wildlife encounter area and is accessible via roads and a gondola from the city strip. The Gatlinburg Trolley, a privately funded public transit system, caters to area tourists. The Gatlinburg SkyLift takes visitors up 1,800 feet to the top of Crockett Mountain, and the Gatlinburg Space Needle provides a 360-degree view of the Smoky Mountains from its 407-foot observation tower. The attraction includes glass elevators, educational exhibits on the history of Gatlinburg, a two-story arcade, and unique shows and performances at the Iris Theater.
The Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Community is an 8 mile loop located on the north side of town, It is dedicated to preserving traditional mountain crafts. With over 100 artists and craftsmen, the Community is a living, breathing tribute to the history of Tennessee. The carvers, weavers, watercolor artists, casters, soap makers, potters, silversmiths and dozens of other artisans skillfully demonstrate their abilities. The Ripley's group of attractions includes Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, which opened in 1997 and features special exhibits covering subjects such as the Titanic, pirates, and the planet Mars, Ripley's Haunted Adventure, Odditorium, Mirror Maze, 5D Moving Theater, Guinness World Records, Old MacDonald's Farm Mini Golf, and Davy Crockett Mini Golf. Anakeesta is a nearby theme park named after the Anakeesta Formation that makes up many of the mountains near Gatlinburg, including Chimney Tops, Charlie's Bunion, and Mount Kephart. In Cherokee, the name means the place of the balsams and refers to high ground. The park has zip lines, chair and gondola rides to the top of Anakeesta Mountain, and a mountain coaster. Inside the park, Firefly Village has shops and restaurants. Dollywood and Dollywood's Splash Country, which are both named for Dolly Parton, are amusement parks located in nearby Pigeon Forge. Hollywood Star Cars Museum, which opened in 1996, features Mayberry's squad car, The Beverly Hillbillies jalopy, DRAG-U-LA from The Munsters, two Batmobiles, the Camaro from Charlie's Angels, and Herbie the Love Bug. Many of the featured vehicles were designed by George Barris. The Museum of Salt and Pepper Shakers houses more than 20,000 shakers from all over the world, and Cooter's Place is a free Dukes of Hazzard museum with the General Lee, indoor go-karts, and indoor mini golf. A few music and family-oriented theaters are located in Gatlinburg, including Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre for musical comedy. Christ in the Smokies uses 3D dioramas with life-size figures, music, lighting, and special effects to tell the story of Christ. Gatlinburg has numbered intersections in the core of the town. The numbers hang from traffic lights or signs and are written on official tourist maps. (A similar idea was tried in Niagara Falls, New York, after the mayor of Niagara Falls visited Gatlinburg and took the idea back to Niagara Falls. The idea was short-lived in New York and was scrapped due to budget issues.)
During the Christmas season, the entire downtown area is decorated with lights for the Winterfest Celebration that takes place from November through February. A Trolley Ride of Lights is available from early November to late January during the celebration, and a free shuttle bus traverses the city every half-hour. Because of the ease of obtaining a marriage license in Tennessee, Gatlinburg is a popular destination for weddings and honeymoons, with more than 20 wedding chapels in the town and surrounding areas.

Gatlinburg, a mountain town in eastern Tennessee, is known as a gateway to the roughly 520,000-acre Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Many of its key attractions offer sweeping views of the neighboring park, including the 407-ft. Space Needle observation tower and the Sky Lift, a 2.1-mile aerial cable car that journeys from Downtown to the popular amusement park and ski resort Ober Gatlinburg.
Gatlinburg is a resort town located in eastern Tennessee. It is a gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Downtown Gatlinburg may come as somewhat of a shock for those on their way to a nature getaway in the national park - from the Space Needle to the amusement rides, the town hasn't necessarily chosen to embrace its nature side. That said, there is plenty of lodging, restaurants, and other amenities to make this town a useful base for exploring the park.
The town's development is closely tied to that of the national park, which was opened in 1934. While in 1912 the town had only six houses, by 1935 over 500,000 visitors were passing through the town each year, and today over 9 million people each year visit the park. The town grew quickly to accommodate the influx, but has had to deal with issues of urban sprawl and air quality as a result of the huge numbers of outsiders that pass through.
Gatlinburg is best reached by the north by taking I-40 to TN 66 SOUTH. Follow TN 66 to US 441 in Sevierville and follow US 441 through Pigeon Forge and into Gatlinburg. Gatlinburg offers a trolley that takes tourists around the town without fighting the traffic. There are several park-and-ride locations: the Gatlinburg Visitor Center has free parking and access to the purple route; the Gatlingburg Mass Transit Center (located behind the Ripley's Aquarium) offers pay parking and access to all trolley routes. The Gatlinburg By-Pass allows traffic heading into the National Park from the north to bypass the Gatlinburg business district. There are scenic vistas along this road as well. Gatlinburg Parking lets travelers reserve parking spaces online and park in various lots throughout the city.
