New Chapter in Life on Jeju Island - Patrick Carle
Patric Carle now teaches English at Dongseo University in Busan. He spends his weekend nights at jazz bars where he plays the violin. Patrick first came to Busan in 1996 out of curiosity, and has been living there ever since - not only because he loves Korea, but also because he met there his life partner, Kang Jung-hwa.
Whenever they have time, the couple likes to backpack to see various places. Traveling is now part of their routine. Since 2009 these two people have finished all 26 olle trails on Jeju Island, which has more than 360 volcanic cones called oreum and some 160 lava caves. It is a world-renowned tourist attraction that was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007. The beautiful mountains, sea and simple alleys of the island inspired the couple to make a new start in life - not as tourists but as island residents.
Patrick and his wife decided to settle down on Jeju, but before moving there for good they visited the island as tourists for the last time. The purpose of their trip is to learn how to run a guest house. Join us to see Jeju's most scenic olle trails and hear the stories of people who moved to the island recently.

Jeju Mini Theme Park
In the Summer of 2011, I meandered to this exotic locale.
Cheonjiyeon Waterfall Seogwipo Jeju Island South Korea
Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is a short walk from the town centre of Seogwipo on Jeju Island in South Korea. These falls are popular with tourists as they can take a pleasant stroll through sub-tropical vegetation, across pretty little bridges and stepping stones to arrive at the 22 metre high falls. Prior to joining the real estate industry, I had more than 15 years of working experience in financial services. Life in Korea | Weekend in Jeju
As some of you guys know, I'm employed though a government-sponsored program (TaLK) and every semester we embark on a free, multi-day cultural trip with other English teachers in our province. This semester we traveled to Jeju, an island off the southern coast of South Korea.
We spent a total of 3 days driving around by bus to different parts of the island. For most of our group this was actually a return to Jeju since we had orientation here 10 months ago. Still, it was nice to come back for a couple of days.
Our itinerary:
[ Day 1 ]
- Jeju Airport
- Kimnyeong Maze Park
- Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak)
- Samgyeopsal for dinner
- Free time so we checked out a street carnival by our hotel
[ Day 2 ]
- Jeju Trickeye and Ice Museum
- Soingook Miniature Theme Park
- Cheunjiyeon Waterfall
- Seosokkak Estuary/Beach
- Jungmun Beach
- Dinner
[ Day 3 ]
- Jeju Folklore & Natural History Museum
- Jeju Airport
