The world's first national junior participation program in surfing - VEGEMITE SurfGroms is poised to take over the Coffs Coast beaches for a third year.
VEGEMITE SurfGroms offers youngsters aged 5-12 years old an opportunity to learn to surf while developing strong ocean awareness and beach safety skills at a very influential period in their lives, that they will enjoy and embrace for a lifetime.
Since its launch in October 2011, more than 20,000 Australian children have experienced the thrill of surfing for the first time through VEGEMITE SurfGroms.
Solitary Islands Surf School is now preparing for another onslaught with registrations open, just in time for the September school holidays.
VEGEMITE SurfGroms programs are available at Woolgoolga, Sandy Beach, Emerald Beach, Darlington Beach and Minnie Waters. Parents can register their children through the website -- surfgroms.com. Just enter Solitary Islands Surf School into the program finder.
Four-time World Champion Mark Richards is an ambassador for the VEGEMITE SurfGroms program and was in northern NSW today to launch the program.
It's an incredible introduction into surfing for the kids, Richards said. Surfing is one of the greatest sports in the world and with a big percentage of our population living on the coastline it's such a great way to get the kids into the water and into surfing. It's a fantastic program.

Rare Shark Feeding Frenzy in North Carolina
On Thursday, October 9 at around noon, while at a retreat at Cape Lookout National Seashore off the coast of North Carolina, the leaders of One Harbor Church witnessed a shark feeding frenzy. The men were out fishing for the evening’s dinner when they stumbled across more than 100 sharks attacking a school of blue fish. As seagulls and pelicans joined in on the meal, the men began to cast into the surf, catching fish without the use of bait. For more than five minutes, the sharks were observed swimming in and out of the surf, some of which became beached in the fury. Donnie Griggs, the cameraman who captured the footage, is an avid waterman who spearfishes, dives, swims and surfs at Cape Lookout often. We want it to be clear that Cape Lookout and the surrounding beaches of Eastern North Carolina are extremely safe for swimming. The presence of these sharks and large schools of fish is actually a sign of a very healthy ecosystem.

Surfer Dudes Review - The Best Beach Toy for Kids
Friendly Review of surfer dudes ( Next to making sand castles, this might be one of the best beach toys for kids who don't want to swim in the ocean. Kids can have fun playing with them while only getting their feet wet. The surfer dudes come in many colors with options for different surfer guys and girls. You simply throw them in the ocean, and they ride the waves back. They don't take batteries, and have no moving parts. The waves need to be large enough to break/crash and cause the white water/foam for the surfers to ride on. If they are too small they will go right over them. Also if they are too large, and not crashing, they will go right over them as well. They occasionally do tricks while riding the waves as well. If you are already at the beach. Your best chance is to pick them up at a Ron Jon's Surf Shop if you're already at the beach. If you haven't left yet and have time, you can order them here ( - See other options below. Great White Shark - Orange Beach, AL - Spearfishing Team Full Stringer - June 1, 2019
While looking for Red Snapper and Grouper 30 miles off the Orange Beach, AL coast in the annual Flora-Bama fishing rodeo, we came across a Great White we estimate was 10 -12 feet in length. You can’t see it in the video but this guy had some big teeth!!!
