Water art exhibition comes to Seoul Olympic Museum of Art
소마미술관의 Water_천진난만展
Finding inspiration is often the biggest challenge for artists but sometimes, it can be found right under their noses.
Today our Yim Yoonhee joins us with some artists who have done just that,... along with a special venue where those artists exhibit their works.
Good afternoon.
Today I have an art collection that is completely inspired by water and like you said,... you can see all of it at one of Seoul′s natural escapes.
Water covers over 70 percent of our Earth... and it makes up about 70 percent of our bodies.
All of us need it, and so does this exhibition.
Take a look.
It can be found almost anywhere,... water is one of the most precious elements on earth,...
And on top of it being essential to all life,... water is a bountiful source of artistic inspiration.
The SOMA museum is home to some of Korea′s most intriguing modern and contemporary art, and now it holds the works of 22 artists,... artists inspired by water′s fluidity,... its emptiness,... and most of all it′s capacity for complete childlike innocence.
"Water can be described as completely pure and innocent. Using that idea of innocence, artists can expand their imaginations, and explore their inner child-like purity. It heals the person and brings people together."
And that′s exactly what artist Kang Eunsu does.
Titled "Membranes," Kang creates an interactive experience that envelopes the audience together,... lapping them in images of cool water.
Like you′re floating in an actual pool, the artwork reacts to it′s audience,... creating ripples across the dark room.
Artist Rhee Kibong takes a different approach.
Inside a large lit tank, a book eerily floats back and forth,... it′s pages fanned by the water.
Other artists also show the adaptable properties of water, and all that it can do,... like capture and reflect light.
The surface of water can hold an aspect of mystery, while still shining a delicate light.
"When I stand and look at the reflection of water, or at an endless beach, I feel so inspired by nature and my soul is clear.
So with this project, I combined the image of a boat with nature.
I used stainless steel, because it looks almost like a mirror, and I can see my reflection, as well as the reflection of light onto other surfaces.
When the light hits the top, it rises back up, beautifully,... like it does in nature,... commanding a sense of respect."
The possibilities of water are ever flowing,... and its use in our daily lives continues to grow.
Though it′s a source of artistic creativity at this museum, it′s the lifeline that connects all beings together,...
It′s a precious part of our lives,... and it must be protected so that there′s enough to enshroud us all.
Yim Yoon-hee, Arirang News.

Where is this museum located?
It's actually at the OLYMPIC PARK IN SEOUL.
I'm sure you've been there before. The park itself has many other water attractions as well.
There are even little waterfalls, and streams as you can see.
There are all sorts of other activities around the park as well.
The museum is situated in an area of the park that is chock full of statues.
It's one of the best, in my opinion, sculpture parks in the country.
But even with all of the artwork, Olympic Park is still a very child-friendly place to visit.
That's right. The museum encourages everyone, especially younger audiences.
The prices are very reasonable.
It's just about three U.S. dollars for adults, two dollars for youths,... and just about one dollar for children.
In fact, I saw a few groups of students there without guardians, just perusing the museum on their own, which I thought was fantastic.
We'll check on the weather with Michelle in just a bit,... but maybe this weekend would be a good one to have a family outing to the park.
Obviously the park is very large, and so if you're looking to go straight to the museum of modern art, you want to head toward the south gate 3.
And the Olympic Park also hosts many other events as well.
What else is taking place there in the near future?
Well this weekend, they'll be holding three different concerts.
You can find more information on their website.
You can spend a whole day there and not run out of things to do.
Thank you for that report.
See you next week.

Water, Innocence
The exhibition Water, Innocence at the Soma Art Museum combines the positive, dynamic energy of water with the innocent imagination of artists.
The exhibition includes a collection as varied as the qualities of water ? water in its physical forms, water as sculpture, and water as a subject of philosophical thought. Particular artists to watch are Lee Yong-je, Song Chang-ae, and Lee Ki-bong.
Lee Yong-je′s works utilize the charm of bubbles to introduce characters from our childhood stories. Song Chang-ae′s works are waterscapes that are drawn with water as a medium. The flowing lines created by water leave the work open to interpretation, both as landscapes and as abstract art. Lee Ki-bong′s artworks use the motif of fog to convey messages about our ambiguous sense of self, of fantasy, and of dreams.
The innocence of water is on display at the Soma Art Museum.
The imagination of water purifies the body and mind in the exhibition Water, Innocence.

Design
Express yourself through fashion with hat design
The hat has become an essential accessory for all trendsetters. In hat trends, we can find the trends and social values of different eras.
Hat brand Cap 10 reflects the culture of teens and twentysomethings in Korea. Their hats move away from typical cap designs and make use of diverse materials and patterns. Cap 10 also seeks to expand functionality of caps, using unique ideas like wired brims that can be shaped into different forms.
Another hat brand in Korea is Luielle led by designer Shirly Chun, the first certified modiste in Korea. Luielle′s hats bring together art with popular trends, and each hat is hand-crated using traditional European techniques.
Designer Shirly Chun′s goal is to fulfill women′s desire to become beautiful, through one-of-a-kind handmade hats.

Olympic Park in Seoul, Korea 서울 올림픽 공원 강남구
Olympic Park is an impressive leisure facility in which historic remains from the Baekje Era share space with modern, state-of-the-art sports stadiums, an eco-friendly forest, and spacious grassy fields. The legacy of the 1988 Seoul Olympics, the park not only houses the country’s largest sports arena, but has also become a place where Seoul residents come to relax and unwind.
Spread across 430,000 pyeong (approximately 1.45 million ㎡), Olympic Park encompasses the land that was once Mongchontoseong Fortress and Mongchonhaeja (manmade lake) from the early Baekje period. The park is divided into several zones, including a leisure sports park, a cultural art park, an eco-park, and the History Experience Park dedicated to the area’s rich historic heritage.
Because Olympic Park is so large and takes over three hours to explore, visitors are advised to familiarize themselves with entrances and exits and travel routes before they start. To further save time, visitors can ride the Road Train (“Hodori Train”) located next to Peace Square.
* Cultural Art Park
The Cultural Art Park is a place where visitors can enjoy diverse cultural experiences and performances. The park also features Olympic Museum, Seoul Olympics Museum of Art (SOMA)—one of the world’s top five sculpture museums—and Music Fountain.
* Leisure Sports Park
This area is comprised of Sports Square (walking/jogging paths, an acupressure path, inline skating area, etc.) and Peace Square (a pleasant area with a wide variety of activities and sports lessons).
* Environmental Eco-Park Persistent efforts have succeeded in restoring natural splendor to this place where a equally splendid civilization once blossomed. People and nature co-exist comfortably within Environmental Eco-Park, which has become home to families of spot-billed ducks, white herons, cuckoos, pheasants, Korean squirrels, chipmunks, and frogs. More recent efforts to rejuvenate the local ecosystem have resulted in the appearance of woodpeckers and raccoons, both of which are rarely spotted in cities. The croaking of small round frogs can now be heard within the park as well.
* History Experience Park Visitors to the park can experience Korean history firsthand at Mongchontoseong Fortress and Baekje Museum, while hearkening back to the more recent, grand spirit of the Olympics in the Holy Land of Peace.

[4K] I'm going to Seoul Olympic Park today 04 - OSMO pocket
The Olympic Park, created in commemoration of the 1988 Seoul Olympics, is largely divided into four categories: cultural arts and living physical education, environmental ecology and historical experience. At the center of the National Flag Square, the northwest side of the city is a road that cuts into Mongchon Fortress from the Olympic Hall. It is an experience space for environment ecology and history. On the other hand, the southern part of the country is a cultural and artistic area with Soma Art Museum and an outdoor sculpture yard. The Olympic Park is one of the world's top five sculpture parks, along with sculpture parks, displaying more than 200 works by Korean and foreign artists, from world-renowned masters to promising artists. If you walk along the sculpture trail along the Soma Art Museum and outdoor sculpture yard, you will face the living and physical education space on the eastern side of Mongchon Toseong. Olympic swimming stadiums, gymnastics stadiums, fencing stadiums and weightlifting venues will be located. There are many things to see and enjoy in Olympic Park. It's good to just turn around without being greedy.

올림픽공원 - Walking around Olympic Park, Seoul, Korea
Seoul Olympic Park, shortened to Olpark, is an Olympic Park built to host the 1988 Summer Olympics. It is located in Songpa-gu, Bangi-dong. The two nearest subway stations are Mongchontoseong and Olympic Park.
Olympic Park is an impressive leisure facility in which historic remains from the Baekje Era share space with modern, state-of-the-art sports stadiums, an eco-friendly forest, and spacious grassy fields. Smart Media Forest is a huge interactive media installation that includes a sculpture, ceilings, pergolas, and benches surrounding a building complex. This installation aims to vitalize the building complex through creating organic connections between people and environments as a landmark of Yongsan, Seoul, Korea. This installation, to which media technology is applied, has the ability to be generated and operated independently and autonomously, to create living expressions through interactions with the surrounding environments such as people and weather. These vivid, natural expressions will generate a massive influx of people outside the building complex.
